Totally agree i prefer this game over gt5 honestly

I tried GT5 again tonight and couldn't even play it for five minutes. Going to give GT5 to my brother. I had already completed everything but the Endurance races in December anyway...

If I drive well, I can be a second or so quicker than the Hard AI per lap, if the AI line is bad or I spend sometime with the setup the gap will be larger, however for most people I think the AI is pretty hard to match as it is. I often gladly accept a podium because the AI is just fast.

In GT5 I'm never happy with anything less than gold.... I still feel like I accomplished something with just a podium in shift2

I actually like the idea that I can't start a one make race and expect to be well in first place by half way through the first lap. It makes things far more realistic and far more enjoyable.

I'd rather lose by a second than win by a minute :). Kudos to the AI in this game.

Not tried this game yet, but AI sounds really good:)

Hope PD learn from this so A spec in gt6 will be enjoyable.

Happend to me last night:

I was in 3rd for the full 1st lap and the 2nd place keeps defending his position. By the 2nd lap he brakes hard to the 1st corner starts sliding all over and crash against the wall. Great to watch :D and after i laughed a bit i settle for the second place. Amazing stuff.

The AI makes for some of the most epic single-player racing I have ever had on a console. They are aggressive but never infuriatingly so, and certainly a lot more intelligent, fair and human than all my Bobs together on their best day.

Also, the fact that DNFs and epic pileups do happen frequently makes for much more interesting and intense races.

I am absolutely loving this game to bits right now.

I haven't got quite the same issue as TC. I started the game on Elite handling and Hard opponents. Did it because there is a trophy for 75 wins on Hard. Was winning relatively easy. Wouldn't say effortlessly but had good fights with them. Reached level 20, got the trophy and decided to switch to Easy.

I only managed to finish all events up to all the drifts (beating friends on the speedwall gives you loads of points, if anyone's interested. That's why I already have level 20). Anyway, switch to Easy and almost didn't notice any difference. They are as fast on straights as Hard, and if they have a fast car then you will be fighting as hard as you would on Hard. I told my friend yesterday that it looks like SMS have no understand of different difficulties concept. Easy should be EASY not too difficult to enjoy. However, it's not the case in this game as it looks.

While I do agree that the AI in S2U makes for some interesting races, the argument that beating the AI in GT5 is too easy is completely absurd. They run near-perfect on every lap, with the exception of a couple sore spots at Nurb GP, Grand Valley, etcetera, and are incredibly tough to beat in comparably equipped cars. Leaving the outcome of my race up to the chance occurance of the AI hitting a wall doesn't excite me. If I want that kind of racing, I can go online.

But the big difference is that in GT5 by the time you go into the first corner you know how the race is going to be.. whether you're going to dominate, struggle or utterly lose. No matter how many laps you still have to do - each of them will be the same and you're only racing against yourself, not the AI...

In Shift 2 anything can happen... it's just so much more exciting... A bit like online, but without the 14 year old punks ruining the fun 👍

I think some people have adaptive AI confused here. I don't think they get better if you keep winning, they seem pretty competitive at all times. I think the adaptive part is down to car mechanics.

For example, if I decide to run a D class car, the cars I am up against run like D class. If I run a A class, they change to A class as well. Which is awesome, because you always going to have a race.

I love the fact that the AI are not just competitive against me, they race against themselves as well. GT5 always seems pre-determined finish beyond 2nd position, no matter the circumstances. S2U does has its' better car finish in the top alot more, but the feild are always fighting for position.

I was doing the final Retro championship last night, I plumped for my GT R32 shop modded, class A. It was a joy to race, because of the set up I used , some cars in the field beat me in a straight line, even if I tried to draft, but I had so much fun pulling and passing them on the turns.

My one real annoyance with the AI, and this cannot be attributed fully with the AI, is when they touch you, funny things happen to your car, no matter the speed. I like the agressive nature of the AI, I just dont like the physics of the cars when they touch, not every situation should end up like a 'feather in a hurricane'. But I am hoping that gets fixed with a patch.

The AI in Shift 2 is great. I mean, it really is. I recently had a race where I only came fifth because I just couldn't drive faster than them. Granted, my car wasn't a very good match for Glendale West, I think, as it was too handling-biased, but that's still pretty awesome.

I also had some quite impressive battles with the AI drivers for third, second and first places. Fighting hard for the lead with the AI's R35 GT-R, in my R34 GT-R during the modern C Glendale event at night, that was pretty darn intense.
I'll much rather take fifth place every now and then and really have to try to actually win the races in the career mode (D-Mac says "Hi!") than walk the AI every time.

Best single player game I've played in a while.

I think my average amount of posts per day and overall time spent on GTPlanet also went down a bit with the release of S2U

There have been a few times when headed down a long straight while drafting, I have bumped into the back of the car to give him a boost, and for some reason we locked up and went rolling down the track. I thought that was a little odd.

However I'd rather have that happen then for me to not even brake, murder the rear of the car in front of me, hear "pooph" and then make the 90* hairpin and carry on my way...

AI would be fine if they get penalized for the things they do. And if they follow the same laws of physics we do, i was running in parallel with the AI and he was on the sand still maintaining it's speed.

seriously? their apex speed with sports soft is what I do with sports hard. I am constantly 3 second or so quicker than the AI over one lap in equal cars.

Have to agree with this. GT5 Ai are painfully slow, I'm not a massive fan of the AI in Shift 2, but they are a lot damn faster than the GT5 AI (If still a little too slow). They corner so slowly in GT5 that in order to have a decent race you often need to use a slower car than the AI.

The AI in shift2 is slow often because of the more conservative AI line, and sometimes they struggle at places where you need some partial throttle to create oversteer. However most of the time they use their grip pretty well, especially out of turns, and they can brake pretty hard when needed to.

The AI in GT5 on the other hand simply couldn't maximize the grip they have.

GT5 races are really competitive. When you have 100 BHP less, are on Comfort Softs, and you let them get 30 seconds ahead of you before you go....

Good for you, sir. I'm not, apparently. And what race was this in which the AI was confirmed to be on sports soft? If it's not too much trouble, of course.

Why dont we just exaggerate a bit more here.

GT5 ai is so slow that you need to run on comfort hards with the power limiter down to to 10% of what the AI has and a massive weight ballast in the car, and then leave them get atleast a 5minute head start.

Yeah that'd do it.

The Infamous Seasonal race #2, Focus ST on Madrid, where the lead car has tires two tier above yours, and you have to make up a 20 sec gap in 5 laps? I won that.

And pretty much on every A-apec race I have to run lesser tires to keep the race close, you can see what tire the AI runs in replays.

All exaggeration aside, if I drive the same car and tires as the AI in GT5, even on tracks that I'm very familiar with, I still struggle to win. Where as w/ S2U, using the same car, I smash the bejesus out of the competition on completely unfamiliar tracks without braking a sweat. And this is with the so-called elite handling mode and hard difficulty.

In fact, I just finished a race on the Dubai track (which I've never driven before), during the course of which I mastered only 2/9 corners and easily took first in my bone stock GT-R versus the AI's GT-Rs, Ford GTs and Mercedes SLSeseses. I guarantee I've never had it so easy in GT5.

Sadly, as that race series is long gone, I can't try it out for myself. I've never thought to check the replays for the competition's tire choice. Thanks for the tip.

No matter what, some of you complain about every little thing. First its too easy, not its too hard. If you can play other games decently you should be able to play this one. I sucked at first myself too, but what I did was live tune my cars on tracks and at the same time practice practice practice. You must get a handle on the physics. This is not GT5.

I tried to start out on the Pro setting with Hard difficulty. Elite is too much for me so I didn't bother. I was getting my butt handed to me. So I practice with the physics handling. I adjusted the A.I. level to medium and kept my Pro settings. I win some, I loose some. Most of the time I at least podium finish.

The main thing is, that I don't always win. There is no challenge and no need for improving skills if you always win. I have noticed if you drive clean, the A.I. will as well and try to avoid ramming you. But if you bump them or cut them off, they retaliate. Real racing.

When I pass a car in GT5, I never see it again unless I lap it, or I spin out. In Shift 2, there are right there with me or I am looking at brakes lights or head lights.
