Mercedes is really doing something wrong here. The last two weeks Kimi's engine has failed on either his first or second flying lap of a session. Seems like Mercedes have a problem keeping their engines together after being started up. I really am getting kinda tired of the Mercedes engine constantly causing problems for Kimi's chances at a championship or even a race win for that matter. Mechanical failures, most of them engine, have been Kimi's constant enemy and it seems like it is going to be no different this year either.

Do I hear a little bit off sarcasme because he's Colombian?? :) ;)
Not because he´s Colombian. Actually I support every South American country in sports (minus Argentina :D), I just don´t like Montoya really.

Are you from Colombia?

Sadly I have to agree with you. Mercedes really need to head in the direction of reliability > power. I believe the McLaren chassis has plenty of pace and would be very competetive minus a few horsepower. Kimi needs wins, and if he keeps getting these 10 spot penalties they're not going to happen. In 2003 Kimi lost a championship because of Mercedes, and it looks like it's going to happen again this year. :grumpy:

The Merc (Ilmor) reliability thing is nothing new. I used to blame Merc fully for it but having read alot about it I see it more as Ilmor's issue, with some Merc management thrown in.

Otherwise I agree. McLaren/Merc in general needs to work on relaiability in BOTH the chassis and engine. McLaren's recent track record of producing strong cars isn't so high. I think they kinda lucked into the chassis this season.

Kimi will drive rup thru the field tomorrow and finish on the podium. Alonso will walk away with it again after a few hot and heavy laps with JB. I see it like this now.

Alonso
Rubens
Kimi
JPM
Trulli
JB
MS

1. Alonso
2. Kimi
3. JPM
4. Button

I think JPM might be a serious challenge to Kimi and Alonso in this race, and I think it could actually be a very good race now. The final stint will be very interesting.

Kimi needs the points, JPM is out of the title hunt...team orders at McLaren will keep JPM behind Kimi.

Idealy Kimi gets out ahead of Alonso AND JPM. JPM blocks the rest of the race for Kimi....

With such a high qualifying position I really think Montoya can get out infront of Alonso after the first round of pitstops, and like you say he should be able to control the field from then on.

I do too. I think this is the race when JPM finally gets to finish. But, I think Button wont reach podium. I see this:

Alonso
Kimi
JPM
Trulli
Fisi
Button

if mclaren are running both cars heavy as they have the past several weeks it will be a runaway win for JPM.

team orders arent going to be an issue unless kimi has an absolutely mind boggeling pace. JPM is nearly as fast as kimi and doesnt have to deal with the traffic. now obviously if kimi manages to run through the field, get around the likes of sato and alonso. that would be a different story.

i just think hes way too deep in the field to overcome it tomorrow.

If it's a JPM Kimi 1,2 in the final stages of the race JPM will be given a few gentle hints to slow down and let Kimi past.

I agree...but.

Kimi is MUCH faster than JPM in the McLaren. Kimi has the "mind boggeling" pace to drive to the front, like last weekend.

However I see it more JPM getting up front and holding everyone up letting Kimi get up quckier, from there Kimi takes the lead and the win.

If JPM and Kimi were close in the points then I'd say JPM will walk away with it.

Ron want's the constructors title though, so maybe, just maybe...Kimi will be left to do his own thing tomorrow and JPM goes for the win....

JPM winning and Kimi 3rd or 4th would sure chop into Renault's points....

We will see tomorrow.

You're talking like JPM will take the lead. How? He wont get past Alonso on the start, and if he does, he wont keep it. JPM can't handle the pressure of somebody driving directly behind him. He usually blows it under pressure like that.

I say JPM is running light. So even by chance he's in the lead, he wont hold onto it. Once he pits, Alonso will run his ass off and take the lead away for good, and Kimi will still be suck in traffic when Alonso has to pit.

Well we're assuming JPM is on a similar strategy to Kimi like he was last weekend. When I think about it though I think he's a bit light because of how early he qualified and how quick his time was.

BUT if we assume he's on a similar strategy to Kimi then he will pit after Alonso, and in that time he'll be able to catch up whatever menial gap Alonso got (that depends how quick Button is, and I don't expect him to hold up the field like Trulli would). So we're assuming he did that and got the lead after he pitted. Then he'd be able to control the field.

But when I think about how early he was in the session and how good his time was I'd have to say he was running fairly light, despite the fact that he "pushed like crazy".

JPM has been pushing really hard lately. Could that be why he has so many DNFs? His car can't handle it. He's always been a brutal driver. Think about his team's reliability issues. The car can't handle JPM's driving style. Maybe I'll change my mind of Montoya making podium...

You're forgetting MS. If JPM is holding up everybody for kimi to catch up, MS is going to profit from this as well. I am not a MS fan but he is still a good driver.

As you say, JPM has always been a brutal driver. IIRC it took Williams over half of JPMs first season to get the car set up so it was comfortable for him. And I think McLaren have been just starting to get it right recently (like since Canada).

I dunno whether you could claim that JPM has been 'breaking' the car though, I don't think his driving style is that different ;)

And I believe his retirement last week in France was his first mechanical failure of the season.

That depends if he is heavy or not, in his qualifying lap he was all over the place. Was he just trying too hard or is he uber heavy and can't handle it during a qualifying lap (ala San Marino)?

I don't see him as too much of a podium contender, but he'll be close.

Yeah, this season it was. He had that DSQ in Canada, the few races he missed from slipping on his balls and the rest he finished near 5th place.

Yeah, I'll get offline soon, I don't wanna here anything. I'll be back online in about 12 hours 👍

I am watching this middle stinti of the race in awe, Kimi is in a league of his own, he has gained neally 20 seconds on the rest of the field. Amazing!

Good race, who would´ve guessed that Montoya would be leading from start to finish. The McLarens are really strong, which means this season will be exciting until the end. 👍

Too bad Button couldn´t make to the podium in his home country.

Fair play to Montoya, he definitely deserved to win this one. Great first corner for him. Shame about the Ferrari's pace though
