WRC 8: General Discussion (Release: september 2019)

Too bad they can’t ship discs early and give us early access.

I like physical copies (steelbook is cool) but there’s so much more flexibility with DD.

Torn...

Then again the collector edition is probably EU anyway.
No reason they can’t ship early. All games have a release date and are shipped in time for that date. It’s. Really strange decision. Pay the most for the game but don’t get to play it as soon as someone who pays less.

Amazon USA still showing $49.99 for the disc.

It looks like some of the stages are repeats from previous games which is fine; but wonder how many kms of stages and which ones are new.

Turkey and Chile are (obviously) brand new. Argentina and Germany have been redone from scratch. The rest of the rallies will likely be a mix of new and old. We have seen Fafe and Hafren and a Sweden stage unchanged. But the Monte stages we have seen are new. So it's anyone's guess at how many new stages we will see in these rallies. SSS will be back, too.

WRC 8 uses ray tracing. Is this normal on high end graphics cards or is this big news? Source:

The game doesn't use ray tracing. He has been mislead. The graphics card does have ray tracing capability, however, this game specifically does not utilize that portion of the graphics card. There's only a handful of games currently using ray tracing.

Make of this what you will. I'm hopeful but I'll believe it when I see it:

When it comes to FFB in any game “Word on the street” doesn’t tell me anything. I’m sure WRC8 will be fine though. I’m guessing it will be like WRC7 FFB.

On a side note, the viewer chat on CM’s Wales sneak peak today was completely free from FFB complaining and bitching. Hiring a community manager that uses a controller seems to have a neutralizing effect, intentional or not.

The negativity around DR2.0 has disappeared entirely as most whiners have abandoned it. Even the latest DLC gaffe (once again asking for Deluxe owners to pay, this time for Wales) has garnered very few complaints. Online is a ghost town. Daily and Weekly challenge attendance is way down. I think most people have given up or don't bother to play anymore.

After about eight months of not playing WRC 7 I decided to go back and get the Platinum. I was only 400 stages short of the 1000 requirement. I did some time trial on Bot and Great Orme mixed with some online. But the most enjoyable part of the grind was resetting my career and starting over on Hardcore difficulty with damage activated and using cockpit cam.

One season in JWRC: one win, second in the championship.

Three seasons in WRC2: no wins, best championship position of third.

One season in WRC. No wins, fourth in championship.

Some heartbreaking moments in there. Lost a few wins due to mistakes and tire blowouts.

It was a very enjoyable grind. Rediscovering the wonderful stages has me excited to try WRC 8 with more stages, improved physics (I hope) and what is looking like a very deep career mode.

EDIT: Wierd that I had to do 1026 stages, and that it popped after SSS Coffs Harbour (the SSS don't count towards the 1000 stage requirement).

@Pfei I replayed 7 through all championships on hard difficulty last year & really enjoyed the challenge. Beat all 3 championships with quite a lot of practice. I've often wondered how much harder hardcore difficulty would be but was happy to put it to bed at the time. I'm going to start 8 on hard straight away & try to win :)

Pretty sure this is going to be a release day buy for me. Never played a WRC game but I'm very excited for this. Haven't played a racing game in 8 years b4 I bought GTS. And honestly my favorite part of GTS is the practice b4 the actual race other drivers tend to ruin the experience . I'm really waiting to hear more on career mode though

Yeah, the good thing about rally is people like me can't hit you! :dunce:

Career mode looks very in-depth. I posted some screenshots a while back in this thread. There are tech trees and crew management. Also hiring weatherman and mechanics and managing the team finances, though it's yet to be seen if that is for official teams or only if you decide to go privateer.

Yeah this is all very promising. The milestone WRC games had some team management aspects like running your own cars and stuff so if this comes back I'll be very happy.

 I was actually debating if I was going to tag you and make a joke but I thought best to leave it

Career mode looks good. I'd be interested to see what they do with the weatherman thing. I imagine we'd get like a general forecast that isn't always correct, say from a weather app anyone in the developed world has access to, but then your team meteorologist will chime in and provide more accurate weather specific to the exact locale, depending how good he/she is. Who knows.

I really hope I can race my career under my own name, and not be forced to take over an existing driver/team. And if there will be drivers retiring from their career and replaced by AI generated drivers. Or will Loeb be racing for another 15 seasons?

That is exactly how it was explained in one of the early reveal videos a few months ago.

This is yet to be seen. WRC 5/6/7 did not have driver swaps or retirements. And it took CodeRemasters ten years to be able to implement that in the F1 games. I remember from perusing the CM forums these last few years that driver and team swaps is a big licensing challenge. So I wouldn't be surprised to see Loeb racing for another fifteen seasons...

WRC 5/6/7 do allow you to choose and use your own name in the career modes so I don't see why 8 would be any different. You get your name and country flag on the window but the co-driver name and nationality are assigned to you depending on which team/car you sign for.
