WRC 9 Coming in September 2020, Will Hit PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X Later

Now with just over a week of playtime since release...how would you all describe the game on a controller?

Also, PS4 pro console owners, does the game take advantage of the consoles strengths?

Thanks

OK. Nothing special, will take some tweaking in the controller settings to get fully comfortable in my opinion. The countersteer is a weird mix of too slow and too fast at the same time so occasionally you'll correct a slide coming out of a corner and it'll either feel a bit twitchy or you'll becoming a moving oendulum swinging side to side before either crashing or braking hard to stop it. Its a bit frustrating.

If you can play with deadzone, satuuration and sensitivty as bit to counter than its generally pretty good on controller but those pendukum situations do still happen.

This I noticed too and it was quite frustrating when I first played, especially going right into WRC 9 from 8. I've spun out of control many times after wobbly counter-steering. I've adjusted to the game and I am enjoying it very much, though.

However, after about a week of playing, I think I would admit that I liked WRC8 a little more. Not to start up any arguments about which is the better/ more realistic game or anything, I just liked how good I felt I was at WRC 8 in comparison. I was flying through stages with little to no mistakes, whereas WRC 9 has more unpredictable handling so I've lost some confidence in my abilities. In other-words, its not the games fault.

Regarding the Season mode, I wanted to start a season using a classic car but only WRC Junior and WRC3 series cars were available options.

Assuming you can only dive into the Season mode with the highest series you’ve used in career mode? Because coincidentally I’m at WRC3 right now.

So this leads me to believe classic cars aren’t available in Season mode (at all) unless someone knows more information..?

I asked this specific question to them on Twitter but as per usual they couldn't be bothered to communicate. If its anything like the previous games the answer is probably that you can't use them in a championship, which is annoying. It would seem that the use of the classic cars is very limited.

what will this be like on PS5? much improved graphics? will we see much difference..

We don't really know. Its safe to assume being next gen that the graphics will see a huge improvement. KT are aiming for 4k60 with PS5 and XSX, faster loading etc. The interesting point for me was on the physics being managed at a higher frequency which may lead to a different feel when playing, much more nuanced and responsive along with the frame rate increase. WRC9 is also one of the games that's been really honing the haptic engine on PS5 so expect a really refined feel through the controller as well.

How that translates to reality, we will have to see, would be nice if the PS5 showcase today showed it off.

Is anyone else having trouble with the sound on the Xbox One X recently? Initially i noticed issues in WRC 9 (the sound stops playing during the stage/rally) but recently i've experiencing it in Netflix and Hotshot Racing and only when using Dolby Digital or DTS (stereo seems to work fine on these games and Netflix). Maybe some recent update to the xbox or something screwed something? (or maybe my xbox is dying slowly...)

Really enjoying Finland in the rain. Slip sliding all the way... ☔
Same. Until I nail a puddle of water and spin off into a tree at high speeds. The puddles are as brutal and unpredictable as they were in WRC 8. I am not sure how realistic it is, but it can be frustrating at times to lose control of the car that way.

Those puddles of water are really unrealistic in Finland. There are ditches on the side of the road where rainwater drains, so puddles are usually shallow. A shallow puddle does not cause such powerful a reaction even to fast driving car, imo.

I don't have WRC9 but my Xbox X or my TV sound goes out hear and there. I think it is the TV ⚡

Surprised @Scaff hasn't attempted the daily challenge as I seem to recall he’s quite fond of this stage :D it’s a wee bit harder in the wet though

Basically puddles simulation after ruining pcars2 career mode is trying to do the same with wrc. Do not get all this love with rain condition and puddles by the developers ... and making rain feeling like driving a sinking titanic.

I bought wrc 9 I did not think I would enjoy it this much, playing 45 minutes in the test area and I love it. This is how you do a test area and things like the little gymkhana area just for fun not some extra game mode with bro-dude voice over like old codemasters dirt games. I already know I will like this much more than DR2. Career mode seems more fun only graphics are not as good the rest seems a lot better.

While DR2.0 graphics are technically kinda better, I feel like WRC last few games are still more interesting to look at because the stages have interesting scenery that help differentiate them. In DR2.0 a lot of the stages feel like they have nothing memorable or distinct to look at, particularly Australia and New England.

I think this encapsulates the best way to describe the 2 sets of stages. The 2 games have a similar amount of unique stage KMs, same amount of countries, a lot of which are shared between the 2*. It can be easy to forget that DR2.0 technically has the more accurate stages are they are mainly modelled on actual routes in the respective rallies whereas WRC is more creative with the stage layouts. However WRC as you pont out does a better job of the scenery and foliage, the stages are more interesting to look at and have a better feeling of progression through the landscape lending themselves to being more memorable.

I still love DR2s stages, particularly Scotland, New Zealand, Poland, Wales and Germany. But the level of consistency across WRC9 is much stronger bar a few countries, some of which are being updated with DLC anyway.

Shared rallies between the games:
Monte Carlo
Sweden
Argentina
Finland
Germany
New Zealand
Wales

*game of the year edition/complete edition with all 13 countries.

Second time in two days game has crashed during Mexico rally in career mode (PS4)

Can’t recall this many crashes in 8.

Does seem to crash a lot on Xbox too. Once in Mexico as well. A few times it has crashed my whole Xbox.

WRC8 has done this to me too on several occasions. Had to switch off Xbox completely & cold boot. Shame this is still happening.

I stand corrected, the XP level goes past 50. Maybe the max is 60?!

Still, 60 wouldn’t allow you to max all of the branches which is good I suppose.

I'm pretty sure it can still be maxed out as you still earn points. You may find 50 is the max and it'll just ring round so you can max it out.

Does anyone else have an issue with the game crashing a lot? I’m on Xbox One X and it seems to crash on the results page after a stage about 50% of the time. So frustrating. I’m attempting a re-install to see if that helps.
Aside from that, I’m absolutely loving the game. It took me a long time to dial in the right settings on my Fanatec v2.5, but now I got it sorted it’s so fun to drive.
The devs seem to be very low key and I’m struggling to find any ways of contacting them for support, and I’ve also got no idea if they lurk these forums or not. On the off chance though, I’ve got some suggestions for patches.

- fix the clubs system. The community is what makes a game last longer than a few months. Let us create our own rallies, with whatever combinations of stages/events, with open classes or even single-make, and make it easy to search, sign up and invite people. Players should have to commit to a car, have their times accumulated and fix damage at service intervals, just like an actual rally. Good multiplayer is what’s going to keep people playing.

- add an option to create your own event, even on single player. Why there hasn’t been an option for a single rally etc in WRC games as standard is beyond me.

- allow players to complete a season in any of the cars. Obviously for cars like the Escort, it would be a one-make season. The bonus cars are great but they seem like an afterthought as you can only really use them on a single stage.

- make some stages and events out of the test area! Or better still, and I know this is pushing it for a title that’s already out, let us plot our own routes in this area and share them. It’s so big and varied, it would be rude not to!

No, I’ve already reached 50 by winning the achievement, so I’m at 50+. Once the the ring completes its turn I’ll be at 51.

In WRC8 once you hit 50 the ring stopped going around.

Also for what it’s worth, the Perks feature is gone in 9. 99.9% sure. Still have not seen it in the WRC2 series. Plus, the R&D tree has nothing about Perks in the Engineer branch like in 8. Perks seem to have been replaced by the final icon for each team member. These weren’t around in WRC8.
