Yep, it did although not for long though.:)

No, it looks like I was right - the Starion was never homologated for Group B because the end of Group B was announced before it was ready. There was a Group B Lancer 2000 Turbo though.

PS: I'll post links to sources if necessary, but I don't consider them definitive enough to include. What I would love to find is the official Liste d'Homologation but it seems to be missing from the FIA's online archive.

PPS:

No, I believe you and if not I'm more than willing to do my own research ( meaning you don't have to provide links ).
They did rally it but maybe indeed not in Group B, oh and by the way you can stop now with the ().;)

Never!*

And the small evil part of me was hoping you (or someone else whose better at internetting than me) might feel the urge to go off to prove me wrong and in the process uncover a Group B homologation list.

*Or until I forget in an hour or so.

From the FIA page ( which somehow states Group B to be a separate part of Group A which if true I didn't know before ).

•The Lancia Stratos HF (homologated in FIA Group4, the GroupB predecessor)
•The Ford Escort RS1600/RS1800 (homologated in FIA Group4)
•The Fiat 131 Abarth (homologated in FIA Group4)
•The Audi Sport Quattro (homologated in GroupB)
•The Citroën BX 4TC (homologated in GroupB, never raced)
•The Ferrari 288 GTO (homologated in GroupB, never raced)
•The Lancia 037 a.k.a. rally (homologated in GroupB)
•The Lancia Delta S4 (homologated in GroupB)
•The Lancia Delta Integrale (all versions including the Delta 4WD with the exception of the Evoluzione II)
•The Subaru Impreza Turbo (pre-1997 models)
•The Toyota Celica GT4 (all versions)
•The Ford Sierra RS500
•The Ford RS200 (homologated in GroupB)
•The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth
•The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4
•The Ford Escort RS Cosworth (the pre-1995 Garrett T03/04B turbo equipped cars)
•The MG Metro 6R4 (homologated in GroupB)
•The Nissan Sunny (Pulsar) GTiR
•The Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 (homologated in GroupB)
•The Porsche 959 (homologated in GroupB)
•The Mazda 323 turbo 4x4 (all versions)
•The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (all pre-Evolution VII versions)
•The Renault 5 Turbo (homologated in GroupB)
•The Volkswagen Golf G60 Rally

Hope that'll do ( some weird ones included like the Ferrari 288 GTO, did hear it was homologated for a Group B, not realising it might be the rally one ).

Group B wasn't just for rally - it's a set of specification and homologation requirements suitable for all forms of production-derived racing, although I don't remember that any FIA-sanctioned track-based series ever used it. The 959's (intended?) homologation was as a track car rather than a rally car - the Paris-Dakar cars would have been eligible to compete without being to Group B spec - and races with it, the 288 GTO and the M1 would have been entertaining. However I'm not entirely convinced that it was ever homologated - I've certainly never seen a homologation number for it.

That list is interesting, but it is mostly Group A cars and is missing all but the best-known B cars. No sign of the Citroen Visa or Talbot Samba at one end of the scale of absurdity, or the Porsche 928 at the other, or even more mainstream and relatively successful racers like the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus or Opel Manta 400.

Yes, it didn't to me appear very complete or accurate as well being the official page but maybe there's a more comprehensive list somewhere compiled by an enthusiast.
Thanks for the other info regarding Group B though, I always assumed it only related to rallying ( maybe due to being a shortlived concept anyway and the Group B rally cars being insane and more popular ).

Homologated means....

Homologation is a technical term, derived from the Greek homologeo (ὁμολογέω) for "to agree", which is generally used in English to signify the granting of approval by an official authority..... The word may be considered very roughly synonymous with accreditation, and in fact in French may be used with regard to academic degrees (see apostille). Certified is another possible synonym, while to homologate is the infinitive verb form.

Perhaps the closest this word comes to everyday usage is in reference to racing vehicles. In motorsports a vehicle must be homologated by the sanctioning body to race in a given league, such as NASCAR, World Superbikes, International Level Kart Racing or other sportscar racing series.

Where a racing class requires that the cars raced be production vehicles only slightly adapted for racing, manufacturers typically produce a limited run of such vehicles for public sale so that they can legitimately race them in the class. These cars are commonly called "homologation specials".

As for a list of Group B homologated cars: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_B#Cars

Wiki rules!

Homologation is the approval process a vehicle, race track or standardised part must go through to race in a given league or series. looked up Homologation (motorsport) on Wiki.

The BX4TC has been used in several events. Without success.

Well well, it turns out you do do learn something new each day, thanks guys!
Still, i dont have a clue how to say it!

You do learn quite a lot here I found, here's one more for you ( and hopefully explain it somewhat ), when Ferrari wanted to enter a certain sports car racing series in the early sixties they had to oblige to homologation rules ( meaning building a certain amount of road legal, or in some cases not necessarily road legal, cars of the type they wanted to enter in this series ) which in effect ruled out the possibility of manufacturers creating all sorts of outlandish one-off vehicles ( which they couldn't sell for road use and therefore they needed to compromise ) outdoing each other and keeping the competition close.
The resulting car Ferrari came up with was the legendary 250 GTO, GTO meaning Gran Turismo Omologato ( Italian for homologation ).:)

I was hoping to see more WRC-cars, at least more of the rallycars being premium. Skoda Fabia/Octavia WRC would have been good to have, likewise with Peugeot 307 WRC. Skoda is a relatively big manufacturer, strange they didn't make it. So we've got 4 cars and seen them all in previews earlier. It is probably better than playing the official WRC-game anyways ;)

Man I hope the Pulsar GTI-R makes a return to GT5, not seen since GT2. Love that car!!!
I used to drive one :)

Agreed! :D

What is the point of rally? Is it just driving on dirt? then why is the Eiger Nordwand a rally course?

It is a form of motorsport done on dirt, mud, snow, etc. And no, Eiger Nordwand is not rally track. ;)

WRC licence in GT... YEY... WOOHOO... AWSOME !!!

Where is this WRC content exactly... I see none of it.

No official tracks, maybe what 3/4 crummy cars..

I'm etstatic... I can't hold my excitment in anymore..

What a load of BS..

why have a licence, for something your not going to use.. utterly pointless.

👎

I know, it would be like EA releasing FIFA12 with just two teams and all the players were from three seasons ago.

GT5 what with all the crummy marketing etc has been such a FAIL.

MUHAHAHAHAHA...thats hilarious... 👍

what would people / media / games critics say.. if fifa shipped with 2 teams.. still with all its lovely graphics and animations.. and what not.

They would go NUTTS.

And people on here wonder why GT fans are unimpressed.

And for me .. the word FAIL isnt even in the same universe as to what this lot think is worth £150 bucks... WOTEVER..

Recent demo footage from Japanese Store. To me it looks a hell of a lot more involving than the leaked GT5 footage :indiff:

Wasn't point to point rallying confirmed?? Really wonder how that's going to work in GT5. Sounds really interesting! = D

Its confirmed in track creator atleast... but looking at the official track list it doesnt look good for point to point. 3 rally tracks..wohoo:tdown: I highly doubt that list is the final one anyway.

I have tried that toscana track and can sign under for that the rally physics is great and dirt grip seems very realistic. Actually reminded me of RBR ;) Cant really remember my laptime, but I know it was under 1.50 :dopey:

Like most rally beginners the guy in the video is driving with way to high revs.. a gear higher in most corners and it would have looked better :)

All rally events will be randomly generated, so we have infinite rally tracks

I like the idea of a track generator 👍 Rally in gt5 is never going to be boring with that feature (ok maybe when gt6 is out;)) But no way is those track going to be as good as what PD make.. So im a little dissapointed that we only got 3 rally tracks on the official track list.

I was just wondering about the random rally stage creation: What locations will these stages be made around? Only Toscana or are there more options?

Apparently Alaska will be one. From the course maker t looks like there is another gravel/dirt location to Toscana, There maybe road based rally events too, we'll have to wait and see.

Hmm, ok. Are you sure that it isn´t a dirt version within the Eiger location? When it comes down to the track creation tool, which rally locations can we choose? I can only recall to have seen Toscana?

No it's not Eiger. That one is a few Rallycross-style tracks similar to a large Cathedral Rocks in GT4, but on a steep mountain. Same with Chamonix which is set on ski slopes !?

Don't know the names of the Course Maker environments yet, the video isn't clear enough. Someone with the game should be able to tell us though.
