Used to be able to play GT without having any problems with wrist ache, I only ever used to get numb thumb. Now when playing online with GT5P I partcipate in about 3 races when the wrist ache starts. It becomes soo bad that it really affects my driving, and I struggle to keep my usual pace.

I have always wanted a steering wheel, so now I have decided to finally buy one. Argos are selling Logitech Driving Force GT's for around £70, and while I am in London, and have a little work on the go I am now in a position to buy one, then I will take it back to Italy with me. Luckily my friend (where I am staying) has Prolgue, so while away from home I can get some practice in.

At the moment, with a pad, on tracks like Suzuka and fuji, with some cars and PP configs via online races I can get within approx 2 seconds of the best, but I want to be more competative so hoping that when GT5 finally ships I can get up to speed with the Wheel, ready for GT5 mayhem. My friend although not a big car racing nut, is still pretty good at GT5P, and is on my level. I am trying to convince him to get the same wheel, so testing it out at his place with him, will hopefully convince him too to buy one too.

Will buy the Driving Force GT at the end of the month, and will update on my impressions.

Hoping it is a good wheel to start with and wondering how it compares to the G25/G27

I would suggest just buying a G27 :) but any wheel is dramatically more fun than a controller. I've used G25 and G27 so I can't comment on dfgt, but the G27 is a lot better than a G25, it is just smoother and much quieter. 👍

Go for the G27 if you can even remotely afford it. I started with a DFGT, but got bored pretty quick with the plastic pedals and sequential shifter. Knowing I could have a clutch and 6-speed really made me want a G27, so I went for it. Never looked back. :D

If you have the money, get the G27 if you are pressed and are sort of inbetween go for the Fanatec Carrera wheel.

What about the Lamborghini wheel? Has anyone here tried it out yet?

The DFGT isbetter mate..... that's going for like £86 and DFGT £70.

The pedals are the same the DFGT has better cushioning for the feet, that wheel has only 270degrees, DFGT 900degrees, it's FFB is also stronger.

BTW I wouldn't feel too bad about G25... I like my G27 but if I could have had the G25 for half the price (I got the G27 for $150) I would have been fine with it especially since it can switch to sequential shifting on it's shifter which is a nice fake ebrake setup.

I've not used the DFGT, but I did make extensive use of a friend's DFP in GT4, so if it's at all similar to that then the G25 / G27 is far superior, all around.
My G25's shifter has already gone a bit slack (18 months of on & off usage) and the gears feel a bit graunchy (and now about as loud as a DFP,) but it still works perfectly otherwise. Could probably do with some TLC...

You tend to have to move fast, though, since deals on the G27 go quickly - maybe due to low stocks. By the way, this same friend of mine is currently after a G27 since falling in love with my G25 :)
Of course, the G27 is a big jump up in price, and (having never tried a Fanatec wheel) the DFGT is probably great value at £70 👍

I would love a G27/25 but at the moment cant really justify one of the 2 for the money. I live in Italy but when I am short on cash I fly over to London and work. I will be in London till christmas, and I do have insurance money due after being rear ended while riding my motorcycle, tho with both cash incomes I will need it to last for a while. Also I want to keep the girlfriend sweet for when GT5 arrives so along with the DFGT wheel I will be buying her a Canon S95 Camera which sell anywhere between £300-£350.

I also have to potentially spend £1k + with a software developer to draw up a design plan for my website, so really my little treat has to be as cheap as possible. I Will keep an eye out for pre-owned G25's, and if I can find one for a price not too much more than a new DFGT then I may swallow the extra cost, but the new price is a little too much.

2 seconds of the best online time? Man you are pretty good! I can get to 5 seconds! I need way more practice and time.

But to answer your question

Force GT is cheapest, and I hear it has a better feedback over G25, but you will luck the Clutch and H shifter. Lots of buttons on the wheel so its very cool to have it all under controll. look left, right. Ebrake, reverse, look back, etc etc. Not to mention cool on the fly wheel to quick setup, and a HORN.

G25 is in the middle, only 2 buttons on the wheel, but has a good shifter and clutch.

G27 best feedback out of the 3, but same H shifter feel and same pedal feel as G25.

If I were you I would get the Fanatec Carrera wheel. Way better over G25, and compares with G27 for half the price.

hmm
My advice stick to DF GT wheel, or the Carrera for bit more money.

Skip G25 for sure. Get G27, Fanater RS V2 if you want bit better wheels.

I currently use a DFGT. Bought it new from an EB games when they came out for $200 a couple years ago and for your price you can't go wrong.

I have a G27 sitting in it's box awaiting a playseat before I set it up so I can't comment on the differences between the two.

You really can't go wrong with a DFGT though.

DFGT is an excellent wheel. Pedals are the weakest link though.

If I could have a DFGT wheel with the G25/G27 pedal combo that would be the best IMHO.

Haha, I am only approx 2 seconds off with a few specific cars @ specific PP levels. I am Div 3 Bronze, but did not really bother to try with the qualifier, so I guess I could be higher.

Though for me to have that kind of pace with the pad, I have to put allot of time in, and it hurts!!

I am sure a DFGT will be fine for me, and from what I read, opens up a whole new world with regards to immersion versus pad use.

I am not too fussed over lack of clutch, or H pattern.

The most annoying thing for me with a wheel is holding bloody triangle for reverse.

Try it 900 degrees and reversing is no joke.

I actually just bought a DFGT from argos for £71, sadly I do not have GT5P to test it as i leant it to a friend over a month ago to get them into GT5. Am switching also from mostly pad user/DFP to this. Tested it on afew pc games, loving it so far.

Great Choice with the DF GT, its the very official GT5 wheel, so you will never have issues or glitches with it.

It will take you some time to master the wheel, but I hope you become 2 seconds faster. Yes, its completely different feel of the game, more sim like.

Hehe I know what you mean but not a problem when using the G25/G27 H gate.

Enjoy the DFGT if you get it! I've had mine for a month now, had the Driving Force years back with GT4 but never made the most of it and left home without it. Getting back into using a wheel after extensively using the pad (and getting pretty high up a few of the leaderboards myself) is a bit weird, I'm still finding my feet with counter steering, but still I'm a bit too slow with it to really keep full control of the car sometimes, whereas with a pad I felt very accurate and very very fast, basically a pad just makes the game too easy. Real drivers use wheels so it's the only way really to experience the game. The force feedback really brings a whole new dimension to the car handling as well, being able to feel the resistance, and even feel the wheel getting loose if you glance a tire over the grass, it's a huge help.

I was thinking why isn't there a thread with real life tips, tips for steering, tips for what to do to make the quickest, most efficient gear changes and so on... anyone know of any threads that cover these issues?? The 900 degrees steering I'm still getting used to (I don't drive in real life yet to really have gotten any experience of this), does anyone have any hints, how should you hold the wheel, the best way to quickly feed it through but maintaining awareness of what degree you're actually turning, lol.

I just got a G27 3 days ago. This is my very first wheel. Prepare yourself, because your lap times are going to take a HUGE nosedive if you aren't use to using a wheel. I've been practicing with the RX-7 on professional settings. Today went pretty well. But the first 2 days i couldn't keep the rear end in a straight line haha! I can tell using a wheel is going to take a lot of practice for me before i start touching my pad times.

Dude get the G27 you will love the clutch and the wheel is like butter. Smooth and oh so fine! :)

I spent $300 on mine and it is worth every freaking penny. And I used to have the DFGT (which I sold) and the G27 is so much smoother.

I noticed this too but after a short while you will be back up on your game and you will be loving it.

The DFGT wheel no longer sells here in NZ. :(

So I have to either buy a Logitech G27, which insanely cost over $500, or a Lamborghini wheel, which is still TBC.

Here's the wheels specification for the Lamborghini Gallardo steering wheel:

Rotation: 270°
Force Feedback on all platforms
6 steering sensitivity levels
2 back buttons for rear mirror and special functions
8-way D-Pad
12 easy-to-access fire buttons
Cable length: 210 cm.

Or...just stick with my PS3 wireless controller.

Can't you just shift down to the reverse gear? Like: 1st gear -> neutral -> reverse. I never played GT5P, anyone knows if this was possible in that game? I know I've seen it in other racers, and I thought it worked fine in those. Indeed, holding a button while turning the wheel several laps seems impractical, to say the least.

Did you try the internet? It should be available somewhere. DFGT was my choice-was surprised to find it even had gear shifts on wheel. Its good price too. The 27 is out of my league, financially.

If you use the H-gears you can just put it in Reverse (push down on stick)

when using synchro you'll need to push triangle...sorry.
But the best is avoiding having touse reverse :sly:

Yes I have made heaps of searches online but no online store has any of it. :(

Can't use sequential shift to get to reverse with a DFGT.

G27 you can select reverse with the gated shifter.
