Wrist ache playing Prologue - Wheel Time!!

I don't have any wrist issues, but I have hand problems. I have ran 8 hours, A-Spec, with no breaks, on my DS2. When I finished, I let my hands loose and both curled into the shape of the controller. This will happen with the steering wheel, making your hands curl up like you've been holding a cup for a long time. Remember to take breaks to relax your hands, and you will be fine. 👍

Hey guys, I'll profit from this thread.

Since GT5 is about to be released (no jokes please), I'm thinking about getting myself a DFGT (can't afford the G27 ATM).

It would be my first wheel. I've done some research, and people seem to be enjoying it a lot. However, I still have some doubts about it, so I'm wondering if you can help me out.

1- Is the DFGT the only official Gran Turismo 5 wheel? Or is it possible that Logitech releases a new "official" wheel when GT5 is out?

2- Is it fully programmable? Can you adjust the wheel rotation? I find 900º to be overkill for some games (F1, for example).

3- Comparing it to the Fanatecs wheels, I guess it would be comparable to the Carrera wheel. Is that right? If so, is the Fanatec better?

Thanks in advance guys (and girls)!

Peace!

1: Yes there is no other, I think it is unlikley they release a new offical wheel.

2: It's not fully programmable on PS3 that I am aware of. Might be on PC. I find that fine tuning your wheel lock is good enough if you want to adjust sensitivity.

3: Hehe, I researched all avalible wheels for about two weeks before I descided to buy a G27 over a Fanatec to replace my DFGT. I wouldn't really compare them. I have had good experiences with logitech customer support in the past and I know worst case scenario if my G27 fails I can get a 50% discount on my next purchace. Unless you go clubsport pedals then the standard logitech pedals are said to be better. Now, I might buy a next gen Fanatec wheel after they have clubsport everything just to try it out. + the Fanatec site was out of stock when I wanted to order (That is likley a good thing).

I don't think that you can change the steering angle but in games where 900º is not supported, it automatically goes to 200º.

Yes the Carrera is better, the pedal set is more reliable and solid (you are getting 3 instead of 2 pedals)
The wheel has a variety of options tto adjust on the wheel, these are steering angle from 90°- 900° in increments of 10°. Deadzone, FFB, linearity and more... (plus you can save 5 setups for 5 different games.
You also get a 6+1 gear shifter that is apparently better than the G27 one.

The Carrera don't have programmable buttons, is that right?

Also, from looking upon their website, I've came across this:

"PlayStation 3
This console is not supported officially but some PlayStation 3 games work as well."

Considering I'll be doing my races on a PS3, should I be worried?

Because of the PS3 choice, GT5 full compability, and price, I'm inclined to get the DFGT.

It does..... just they are sleekly hidden. All PS3 games that support FFB wheels work with this.

I've currently got a thrustmaster Ferrari GT Wheep, but I'll hopefully be upgrading to a Driving force GT! Although if I spot a G25/27 for £100 I may talk my parents into that... :D

You are lucky, i am having to relearn. I feel like a GT virgin haha. Are you driving with professional physics? I just knocked out day 4 with the wheel and i am starting to catch the car alot better now from spinning. My laps times are also improving. It has gone from annoying to fun. Can't wait till i start catching my pad times.

yes pro physics no tcs no asm abs set to 1 wheel set to simulation ffb level 4 I'm loosing out on braking most but making time back up mid corner.I have noticed you can get away with more with the pad you can run 2 wheels onto the grass without many problems but trying this with the wheel seems to spin the car
I'm finding it easyer now ive stopped trying to left foot brake and also offset the pedals slightly to the right (brake pedal is level with the center with the wheel like a real car).give it a try you never know.
What car / track are you using ?

I am mainly practicing with the RX-7 on various tracks. I have also driven the Type R and M3 which i feel pretty comfortable in both of those. Not trying to jump into anything too powerful. Waiting till i get more comfortable with the RX-7 haha.

Question, whats the difference between the professional and simulation option for the wheel? Pretty sure i am on professional. Should i switch that over to simulation?

I have no idea what the difference is between pro and sim I just went with sim !

:EDIT: I have just had a look and amateur/ pro /sim settings do nothing to the dfgt. its a function for older wheels.

I just recently picked up a G25 for 150€. I only tried it with GT5P and DiRT so far. But it's just so much fun. The H-shifter is a really nice feature. Too bad they removed that on the G27.

The G27 has an H shifter. But it's lacking sequential shifting like the G25 has.

I bought the DFGT, wow takes getting used to it!! I took the F1 car around Suzuka, and could not stop crashing!! I eventually got to within 8 seconds of my best time with the pad. 1:26 vs 1:34 with the wheel. It's really tough. I won't get much time to practice while in London as I am staying with my friend but once I am back in Italy Christmas time will really be able to give it a good shot. And hopefully GT5 will be out!!

PS

Please can anybody recommend me FF seetings etc and anything else so I get the most out of the wheel?

Many Thanks

The F1 car and the DFGT really don't mix, not in GT5P anyway. The 900 degrees of rotation does not help. I forget if there's some way to reduce the degrees of rotation for the DFGT; to me it wasn't worth it as I don't play with the F1 car at all. You should find that the DFGT is MUCH more satisfying with street cars.

Is the regular Driving Force still any good, and does anyone know if the DF-EX is compatible with PS3? I've been looking around eBay and I'd like to know before picking something.

BTW The DFGT is fully adjustable when used on the PC. I have installed the drivers and used it on a few different games on the PC under both XP Pro and Windows 7

Used to be able to play GT without having any problems with wrist ache, I only ever used to get numb thumb. Now when playing online with GT5P I participate in about 3 races when the wrist ache starts. It becomes so bad that it really affects my driving, and I struggle to keep my usual pace.

I had the same trouble the first time I started playing with the wheel. I'm 6'3 and I have some what long arms; to solve my trouble I started wearing gloves when driving. If you’re using the Logitech Driving Force Wheel it will help greatly if you wear the glove due to the wheel size is smaller than a G 25 or 27. Plus it good to wear them so you won’t have such a tight grip on the wheel. Fire Proof racing gloves are the best to have.

One thing that has been bothering me is I start to get a ache in my right leg, on the inside part of my leg right in my knee. If I play for more than a hour when I stand up I actually walk with a limp. It has been doing this for about a month.

I believe I will stop using my rig for a while. I can't understand why it is hurting unless it is from trying to keep my leg straight and not leaning into my shifter.

Is anyone else feeling this who uses a wheel and pedal set?

It gets to my knees as well especially the right one I would imagion it is releated to the position of the knee for sustained periods of time. I have found that adjusting the height and angle of the pedals helps.

I noticed that the Carrera wheel is being talked about a lot.

I want to get a wheel with a clutch pedal, so that one is looking good since it's within my range I want to spend. It looks like a really solid wheel, at least for what I want. Can anyone comment further on it just in general?
