This thread is going to be "our" official GT4 thread.
Just for us WRS racers. :sly:

Please feel free to discuss any progress you are making in the game.

If you need help with a license, a race, a first car selection... Anything! ... Just bring it here and we can all help or learn from each other.

I'm going to leave this up for quite some time so that we can have a "secret discussion" about completing this game without having to use the overly crowded GT4 forum.

All I ask regarding your post in this thread is NO SPAM. :D
If you don't have the game just be patient... You will get it soon enough. 👍

Until I hear back from you all...
Later. :dopey:

beat sunday cup, FR challenge

currently all silver in B and A

I'm actually enjoying the licenses in this game more than i have in previous GT's, I think I'm gonna go for all gold first.

Ah the marvels of reverse psychology!

I haven't bought GT4 yet, since I could have easily won a copy at the weekend, but my wife wouldn't let me compete, and also she's accused me on numerous occasions of being addicted to GT3! (as if?!!!)
She came in tonight and asked me "How is it then?" referring to what she assumed would be GT4 that was playing on the PS2.

"This is still GT3" I replied, "I'm not buying GT4 since you think I'm already addicted enough to this one." :(

She's now gone out to the cinema with her friend, which also happens to have an EB games next to it, (the cinema, not her friend! :dopey: ) and I've just had a call.....

"There's lots of copies left if you'd like one" :)

Well who am I to argue?
And of course, now when she tells me I'm a GT4 addict too, I can remind her that she was the one who bought it for me!!! :sly:

Should have my copy in about 3 hours, once her film is done! In the meantime, the WRS is here to keep my thirst for speed slaked!

I still don't have it :(. Asked my mom to tell my dad to pick it up on his way from work, and I would have it after high school was over, but she didn't seem to think it was very important . Tomorrow I will have it, if I have to walk the darn 20 miles to a store that sells it.

How sweet. The things people do just to show how much they love someone ;)

Enjoy the game mate 👍 Am I jealous? I ain't saying :grumpy:

Nice story Smallhorses.:) It's all her fault now.:D I told my wife to leave me alone for a few days, and let me get it out of my system.

I'm golding licences before getting into the game, I've golded all of B, A, and BI includig Coffee Breaks, I'm gonna start on AI in a little while. The tests on the 'Ring and Citti de Aria (or whatever it's called) are a blast.👍

I did run one race to see how the AI is, it was the Rotary cup in the Mazda dealer. It was only worth 97 A-Spec points, but it took me 8 tries to win it! I was using a stock RX-7 though, the AI cars were modified. The AI is a bit different...one lap I was riding this guys ass for half a lap and I guess he got a case of nerves and totally blew his line in a corner, off into the dirt he went! Another time I was next to one guy I had rammed by accident, and somehow he managed to nudge my back corner just right, and that's when the massive fishtailing began which led to a visit to the kitty litter.:ouch:

...Lots of stuff about his wife buying GT4 for him...

Cheers to somebody that seems to have figured out how to manipulate women into doing whatever he wants :D

Back on topic:
I have had the game since 6PM last night :D

The first major surprise was how differently the cars handle/feel - it is going to take a while to get adjusted to.

Second major surprise was how incredibly easy the Licenses are (for Bronze, at least). I got all bronze and a few silver scattered here and there within my first two or three tries at the most. Licenses so far: A, B, iA, iB. I will go for the S soon. Then I will try to get Gold on all of them.

Third major surprise was the Driving Missions section of GT4 - I love them :D
I think that's the aspect of GT4 I have enjoyed the most so far.

Some more random stuff:
1) I am not selling any car - unless it's a duplicate. I want to collect them all.
2) I am only driving used cars, so far. Keeping everything that can only be won once at 0 miles, at least until somebody figures out if you can permanently damage an engine by overreving it - or if the horsepower drop comes only from mileage and dirty oil, like the good ol' days of GT3.
3) I am not going to drive overpowered vehicles - this time I am going to give myself a challenge.

Enough writing, GT4 awaits me... :D

Later.

Thats what I've been doing. I'm still on B. I've passed it and got the license but trying to get golds. Test 1 and 7 are being a pain in the ass. I'm only off by about 0.015 on Test 7. I finally got Test 5 finished after about an hour of doing it.

CFM what cars do you get for golding the licenses. Golding liscenses is my priority when i get gt4, then i can use the pretty cars to win more pretty cars.

Im like wizard not gonna sell any cars i win unless its a duplicate. I did this in GT3 and im gonna do it in GT4.

Not women, just 1 perfect & lovely woman!
She knows exactly how to manipulate me too, so I'm sure she'll get her own back!

(Sorry Kent, I guess this classes as spam. No more posts until I have a relevant GT4 progress report.)

*Edit* Here's something relevant-ish.... How big are the game save files for GT4, can I still keep all my GT3 replays and game saves and fit GT4 saves on the same memory card?

I've been away from the WRS for a while, but I know you guys are super fast so I figured I'd bring my GT4 speed questions here.

When doing 900 degree mode in GT4 it seems that you have the ability to turn hard enough to make your car slow down. Like you've turned the wheels hard enough to the side that they're skidding.

It seems that there is a magic point at +/- 90 degrees where if you go beyond that you typically skid (thus nullifying the coolness of the new mode). Is anyone else seeing this? Does anyone have any tricks for turning now that 900 degrees are available?

(btw: Is there a simluation/pro/amat/beginner steering mode? I can't find it)

I was only joking ;) I wasn't implying you own a harem :D
I was only assuming that if you know how to manipulate one, you would probably be able to manipulate any - therefore, the plural.

Anyway, just to quit spamming and posting stupid jokes, since nobody ever laughs at them anyway...

Does any of you guys have any suggestion on how to do Driving Mission 23?
It's 'Slipstream Battle 3: Nissan Skyline GT-R' on the Test Course.

The Wizard.

So far so good, just over 10% done, over 20 cars. Got the A, B, and iB licenses so far.

Well, I got this not too long ago...

First thing I did... stupidly.. was hop into Arcade, jump in an MR2 SuperCharged, and do a 3 lap race around the 'Ring. Showed me right away the difference in physics... gonna have to relearn my trail braking all over.

I did import my GT3 data, but I haven't really abused it yet. I started doing some of the licenses, but I really wanted to get in an MR2 AW11 and start racing. Bought an NA MR2, and put an HKS exhaust and basic suspension on it. Fun little car.

I'm wating till a black NA MR2 AW11 pops up, so I can tune that out to the real life specs of my MR2 ;) Sure, 190 HP and a semi race suspension, plus light weight, tires, clutch, and some other stuff might make it a bit fast at first, I feel its fine, since i do own a car like that :)

One quick question though - how do you get the data on the cars? Like, the history on them, cause I do like reading that. Its also funny to see how GMC owns freaking everythign it seems like :indiff:

I've noticed the same thing. Unless you're going awfully slow, there's not much point turning the wheel more than about 180 in either direction. I turned it more than that in the hairpin at Ciatta Di Aria so far.

If you go into the options menu, and scroll down to the bottom, there's a box called "steering" that has the force-feedback and assist settings 👍

...

As for me, I'm working on golding the licences ... got gold in B and gold on the first ten tests in A. The only test that's taken more than about 15 minutes was B-16, so far. A lot of them are pretty easy, especially the guided laps. And I could get out and take a leak and still get bronze

I was really happy when I got to the Elise test at HSR in the A licence and realized that not every car understeers like it's delivering bricks to a pyramid construction project. Most of my problems have just been keeping the cars on the track.

Currently, I'm slaughtering the competition in the Japan Championship with my 400hp Evo VIII MR. Anyone else finding that the AI cars that are randomly picked by the game are either impossibly fast, or ridiculously slow compared to the car you're driving? This is really annyoing me; I have yet to have a good, close race vs. the AI! All my races so far have either been me running away with the race, or there is one or two AI cars that are 10 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

So far I got 5 gold licenses and am thinking about buying a nice s14 Silvia.

The licenses seem harder. It's probably because the physics changed and I haven't played GT3 in a long while.

Question:
Is it possible to transfer lessons/licenses to GT4 from GT4P?

answers to questions...

Size of the files if I remember correctly is 1485 KB

Setting the steering to simulation is in the Options, you need to scroll down to the button configurations and find the DFP, it's kind of hidden, I don't like the way they designed that options window.

Last night, I was able to gold all the B licenses, have about 3 more golds left on the A license. Didn't really do any races, just doing time trials to learn some of the new tracks. I was running time trials on Citte du aria (whatever) in a mini cooper, made me feel like I was in the movie Italian Job, loads of fun. Was also trying to get under 9 minutes in a civic 98 type r on nurburgring, It's really just to learn the track, but damn that track has everything in it.

Hey all,
I just wanted to stop in and update everyone on my progress with the game. :D

Well,
I'm not trying to gold any of the licenses.
For that matter though, I have a mix of gold, silver, and bronze across the board... And of course, I have all the licenses including the Super license.

My favorites were the IA and Super license test.
Especially the graduation test for IA and Super. 👍

After that I moved out and bought a car... Didn't want to use a prize car.
I bought a used Evo 5 gsr. :D
Tuned it just a tiny bit and blew through the clubman races and the 4wd races of the beginners events.
Then moved over to pro events and beat all the clubman events there.

Now I'm going to do the Japanese events. :dopey:

However, with all the game play I have already had I am noticing somethings.

Stuff I like about GT4 more than GT3:

-The speed and handling of cars-
Did anyone do the license test with the viper at el capitan?
That was so fun!
Suddenly it seems like all of the cars handle better and for once it seems like the American cars are well represented!
All of the lower power cars that used to not handle very well are now great (my evo5, the viper, etc)

-The Originial tracks-
It seems like all of the tracks from previous games were re-imagined.
They are all different to drive on... The hard turns in the last game are now easy and the easy turns are now harder.
Plus, they brought back original tracks like autumn ring!

-The graphics-
The graphics are awesome as well!
I couldn't believe how good looking the graphics were until I got onto some of the old courses like trial mtn and noticed what an improvement was made!

-The cars... Looks and Handling-
Car models look better!
More cars are availible!
The handling, although hard at first, is far superiour.
Hell, on some of my first license test I found myself spinning out on the middle of a straight just because my gt3 driving skills wouldn't cut it!

All I can say is...

They really hit the nail on the head this time.
And for that matter it looks like this nail was in the coffin of games like Forza! :sly:

Back later on when I get more progress.
until then be patient with my absence... I'm having a hard time with my PC and the net. :ouch:
(can't seem to get this dial-up connection to stay connected :grumpy: )

Btw, sphinx,
I don't know about gt4P, but gt3 can send licenses through for the A & B licenses...
GT3 can also send through 100,000 cr for you so you get an account with 110,000 cr from the very start. 👍
(I've still got like 90,000 after tuning my Evo 5 :dopey: )

I believe that GT4P will transfer the 1st 2 licences just like it did for us. Not sure you get the credits though. Even though I transfered the 2 tests, I ran them anyway to get the cars.

Cheers guys 👍 only the 1st 2 licences, was it worth the effort for them to add that feature lol. I got golds in all the GT4P lessons on the understanding that they were transferable. Oh well. :ill:

Holy jebus... talk about unexpected.

Went into the beginner races and did the clubman cup with my AW11... then went to the MR races, expecting intro level MR cars. But no, I get to compete with two different Elises, an Espirit Turbo, an MR2 GT-S, and an NSX Type R. And I still managed to beat one of the Elises. But still, its beginner level... who is gonna have a 40k MR car?

I'm really liking the new physics though. Quite nice feeling once you get use to it.

Kent, thanks for your views on GT4. 👍

I have been waiting for someone who enjoys the thrill of driving to give a fair and honest view of the game.

I'm looking forward to the PAL release!

Ok, I just bought a 1970 Dodge Charger, and I have to say it's my favourite car in the game so far! I love this car! I tuned it to 500hp using the stage 2 NA upgrade (so I could compete with a Cobra in the American muscle car series, only to have the Cobra not show up after I tuned my car  ). I can smoke the tires all the way through 5th gear (racing transmission was also purchased) if I turn off TCS! I'll post pics of it as soon as I can get a USB key.

Applying the licenses from gt4p gives you the first 2 licenses as such, but does not give you the trophies or the prize cars, it just says you passed them.

You can find all the info you need in amar212's posts in his thread in the gt4 forum.

Its called "Hands on PAL release" or something like that.

Thanks, that was holding me back significantly.

Yea I actually have to retract some of what I said earlier. I've started turning further now that it's on simulation mode. Hairpin turns especially require lots of turning, I guess it's just something that we'll all learn how to master - how far to throw the wheel around the turn depending on the turn and how fast you're going.

It's going to take some getting used to.

Hey danoff. FYI, there's a term for what you are describing. It's called binding, and GT4 does a pretty good job of modeling it as it happens to real life cars as well.

Ok, made progress...
Got through all the beginner races and some more of the pro events.

However, :(
I found out the hard way that when you buy a car they save the game.
This gave me a 15 car garage by accident. :(

Got a few good cars though.
The TVR V8s '91 is great for the roadster challenge.

For that matter, I eventually got a prize car worth something. ;)
NSX R Concept 👍
Mazda RX7 Falken Touring Car 👍

Haven't had time to test much on the RX7 but I plan on using it to take out the first level of the Japan champ.

Also. :dopey:
I've really gotta stress that street cars are now awesome, especially at lower powers... The entire game is setup now so that slower cars from gt3 now seem a whole lot faster and more controllable.

Same for graphics (I just had to say it again... ! )

Finally just let me mention that I have been having more and more PC troubles.
This is coming from my community college computer. :(

So count on my pressence, but don't count on getting too much of it.

I will still be working on gt4 though so don't worry about me not keeping up with you guys... I should have some good stuff in my garage soon.:D

Btw, has anyone seen the bmw M coupe in the used car shop yet!
I love it... Too bad I didn't have the Cr. for one. :(
