Well, I'm bored and I've had some fun and games with "Dell" this week that I thought I'd share

MONDAY: I discovered my 6 month old 20" LCD monitor was ghosting the image on the screen and also appeared to have some permanent washout effect around the bottom and right edges. So I called Dell and they said they'd send me a new one...I was mighty chuffed.

TUESDAY: My new monitor arrives!!! Talk about service, I take it out of the box and the front panel is dislodged:

So I ring Dell again and tell them about it, they tell me that they'll send a new one but it seemed to me that the panel would plug back in, so I did that while on the phone to them and said not to worry about a new one. They asked for me to send the photos anyway.

So later that night I get a call from Dell saying the USB port looked damaged so they were sending me a new monitor....okay :)

THURSDAY: My 2nd replacement monitor arrives. I plug it in and the screen flashes between the PC output and the Dell startup screen. I fiddle around with it but can't seem to get it to work...so on the phone to Dell again! Sure enough he can't fix it over the phone....we'll send you another one!!!

FRIDAY: The same delivery guy delivers my third replacement and seems amused by the whole thing, I tell him to come back in 20 and I'll have the three old monitors packed for him to take back to Dell and he's happy to oblige, here's a pic of the $3200 worth of LCD goodness in my house:

So I now have a brand new monitor in perfect working order. Not sure whether I love or loathe Dell, I guess they got the job done in the end :sly:

It's great that they got the whole thing done within a week and sent monitors on the next day. Imagine if you had to wait a week for a new one to arrive only to find that this one had broken too! Then another week for the next one! Then you'd answer that love or loathe Dell question.

While I'm here, I thought I'd tell everybody how bloody hot it is at the moment in Australia. The thermometer at work just creeped over 45C (113F) today, and it's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow! The thermometer maxes out at 50C (122F) I wonder if it can reach it.

I don't think it's going to drop below 35C all week. I have Australian Open Semi-Final tickets on friday with a nice cool forcast of 40C.

What's worse, I get home from work today and find the power is out. So the house was boiling and everything was melting. It didn't come back on for 5 hours!

I hear ya on the heat man, I've got the fan on full ball right on me and it's like 10pm!!!!!!!

Tomorrow I'm goin over my mates place to watch the cricket in his pool, can't wait!!! Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks to some much needed rain, hasnt been too hot up here.

Normally will hit 35 - 38C in a day easy, and the min would be around 27 - 28. But today only got to 29.1!! wow.

Hope you guys survive, and make sure you drink lots of water!

That's a nice screen MisterWeary. 👍
Wish I had one like that. :dopey:

Is that what you play GT on?
Or is that just for the PC?

And yes, talk about service...

I'm might jealous of that kind of service.

My Tag Heuer went in for service and I got word that it I should expect 6 weeks between the time it is sent and the time I get it back. :(

Atleast I'm finally getting it taken care of.
In fact, my parents are the ones who are "taking care of it" (meaning, paying for it), and it is being done as a really, really late christmas gift... Better late than never has never been so true. :dopey:

Even if I don't get it back for 12 weeks I will still be happy to have it, but then again, I would really love to have "dell-like-service" in a situation like this.

I suppose that's asking a bit much. :ouch:

And for the sake of giving a picture to go along with all this ranting about a freaking watch...
Here's a picture of the exact watch (down to the color of the face).
(Luckily the watch is much more quality than the picture  )

Nice watch Kent 👍 I've never been a watch wearer, don't know why? I guess I just grab my mobile if I need the time or harangue an innocent bystander.

As for playing GT on my screen, I did for a while, for an LCD it has a surprisingly quick refresh rate and plays GT fine but my sister likes to use the PS2 as well and doesn't like having to play it at my PC, particularly since she likes SingStar, so back to the TV she goes.

You know I just recently heard a statistic about how watches for the "new generation" are not as important as they once were.

Why?
The exact reason you mentioned.

It seems young people today don't care for watches simply because they can always get the time off their phone or their PC.

For me it's a thing of passion. :sly:
That watch uses a 21 jewel system and the second hand flows instead of ticking... Just a steady circle of motion with no stops.

Plus, when I was a little kid I was always in love with the collectable pocket watches of my grandfather's.

Likewise, I was always amazed by works of engineering (my father was an engineer).

So by the time I was old enough to actually appreciate a watch like that, I was dying to get one. :D

To me a watch like that Tag is a work of art and engineering... Like a swiss BMW for your wrist. :dopey:

I have a problem with wearing my watch while I'm driving, on my left wrist it annoys me when I change gear. So I switch it to my right wrist, where it irritates me using the mouse or typing on the computer.

Lucky for me I don't do those things at the same time... :dunce:

I have to totally agree with you on that, and though I've always been a fan of the quirkiness of the clockwork Swiss watch I inherited from my Dad's Dad, I hate the way the winding mechanism is so weak (I've broke it off about 6 times since 1987!) Now I have a TAG Heuer too, and I love it! See attached....
I actually found a TAG watch once, about 1/2 way down Mount Snowdon in Wales and in the mistaken belief that it was a cheap fake, gave it away! ( my friend, and my Best Man, who still has it, and much to his amusement has had it authenticated and still ribs me about it every time I see him!!!)
There's just something about a TAG Heuer to a motorsport fan that even a Rolex just can't touch, even if they are way more exclusive and expensive.

I use a really nice Pulsar when I could be bothered wearing a watch but when I'm at work it would get banged about too much.

Hey all.

I've been bed-ridden these past 5 days and on Saturday I finally went to the ER. Now I'm a military dependent so some things might be a little different for civilians.

Anyway... at the ER they gave me tylenol, took vitals and sent me back to the waiting room. An hour later I'm in the clinic or whatever it is. They take blood and ask all those questions you hate answering. Another hour and they ask the strangest thing: "Would you like a spinal tap?"

Funny but true. Point is, get a good doctor!

-- Veilsidebr's Decision To Commit Suicide --

I thought I'd bring the conversation here because I'd like to know more behind your decision to commit suicide Veil. Before you attempt it I think you ought to let everyone here in the WRS community know some background and I think you should consider their opinions. For those who didn't know here is where veil revealed his intentions.

I've got lots of thoughts on this and I think you should seriously consider people's thoughts/opinions before making what I believe would be an incredibly unwise decision.

I saw someone commit suicide once. I was waiting at the train station and I was sitting next to a woman who got up, walked over to the edge, down on to the tracks, across to the track where a train was coming through and before I could even contemplate what was going on she was taken by an oncoming train. The look on her face just before the train struck was one of pure fear and desperation, she seriously looked like a woman at the very end of her rope...it's something I'll never forget. Since then I've often wondered what could bring a person to consider suicide as an option.

Before I, and others, put forward some opinions I think it would be good if you could give us some more background as to how this decision has come about. From what I understand your reason for wanting to commit suicide is because it is too expensive and difficult for you to become a professional racer, am I correct in this assumption?

Your probably wasting your breath mate, Curtis, Dan, I and other Racers have already tried talking to him and getting him to think, but to no avail.

Good luck to you guys if you succeded where we failed.

Yes you´re alright...

Well, i have an important meeting tomorrow morning and its 2 and half AM here now, can i write all the things tomorrow? theres no probl for me, really. I can answer all the questions and i can surely listen to all the opinions.

Now i don´t have time to write, but tomorrow i will be here and so i will explain everything deeply.
