It's not slow Kent.👍 Congrats on breaking the barrier!
Thanks for posting your splits BTW. Interesting.......you are ahead of me at T2, by .3 but I am getting under 2'01 after the eiscurve section. Then I am ahead up to karussell.......and that's where it all falls apart. :ouch:

I look forward to your replay. I really need to study a good drive through that T6-T9 section. Even in WRS events I seemed to lose 3-4 seconds in that section. I would sure like to learn finally how to drive it.

@small_fryz-Are you trying to say something about my trustworthiness then? hmmm? (j/k i know what you meant.)

No problem MinorShunt,
I'm planning on loading it for updating my previous best so posting it or a link will be easy. 👍

Also, regarding the laps at hand...
I'm horrible with the T3-T4 stretch. :yuck:
Of course, that was on this lap. ;)

I've seen mid 1'21's from T2s in the 1'00.2 range (but that's T2 to T3).

The problem for me is nailing down each section (just like everyone else).
That's also what I love about seeing the replay to this lap...
I'm all side-ways and whatnot at the end of the lap. :dopey:
It's really shame I'm adding that much time but I can't help mistakes!

During the T3 through T4 section I just take it slower to make sure I don't lose it on the bumpy section.

Usually at the middle of the lap on the back straight I am saying "this all don't mean ____ if I can't keep it clean for this one turn."
That's as I pull up to the last turn before T6. :scared:

After the carrousell I'm in heaven.
Favorite part of the course for sure.

Well... I'm headed out for now.
Later.

Btw, the thing that amazes me the most about this combo... How much time there is to gain each new attempt. 👍

I tried 15 min on this race and honestly, I don't think I could ever complete a lap . In almost every other hotlap, you're pushing your hardest on every turn, this one you just can't. One wheel in the grass while braking or a little wheelspin sends you instantly flying off the track. For those with the skill to reign the car within its limits and be able to push less, a good time is easily possible. For me however, it feels really foreign and I think I'd have to spend a ton of time on the combo to get to know the car.

@small_fryz-Are you trying to say something about my trustworthiness then? hmmm? (j/k i know what you meant.)

Never Mr Shunt :sly:, Infact you would be one of the most trustworthy drivers as you have raced in BC and can provide replays when ever questioned, so cheating is never a question. So even though you could cheat in the 25 lap races, you never do cheat in all the other races so you see no point to have to cheat now. 👍

I've got a good idea of how the 25 lap system works, as I've also done some of those races over at GTBN. If anyone is interested I could easily steward some races here at GTP that are of the same concept. Let me know if anyone is interested 👍

MinorShunt
Wow!! What a great concept for a series! I had never heard of it.:indiff:
If the series continues, I will have to try a few races over there just for fun. 👍 But for this race, I think it is appropriate for those that participated in the whole series to race together. I wouldn't feel right about barging in.
It seems that the series will continue, but I think you should race the current race if you're interested : it's definitely worth it, and the stewards are fine, especially the one who posted races #48 and #49 ;)

I have strange feelings about this series. On the one hand, I love it and I can't just give it up. On the other hand some sunday evenings none of us 4 have enough motivation or energy to post a new race.
We discussed it a lot (that is, banjobear, NielsG, sjaak68 and me) over the past 2 or 3 months, and our conclusion was that the series would have to be able to keep going without us or stop. That's the reason for race #50.
We didn't know what to expect, so we were ready to post a final race and let the series die. It seems that some people like it as much as we do, and they are ready to keep it going. So we will of course stay around, race sometimes, perhaps even post some races.
You can figure this series as our kid : it started as a baby last year in Banjo's diary as a way to discover the game, then it became a child when we moved it to the OLR forum after several other racers had joined, and it's now grown up so it must have its own life without us.
Okay, that is probably a silly comparison and I should be going to bed :D

Well, if you need anyone to steward some races, I will be glad to help 👍

Just post it over there and see with Roland, GT3mich and the others how the series will be organized from now on. I'm certain everybody will be happy that you join the new stewarding team 👍

Even with the experience of the entire GT series under my belt I don't feel I am all that good. Part of it is the poor AI; I don't really know where I stand against human because I can't see what they (you) do differently and thus I can't learn by watching. I have to rely on time-consuming experimentation now more so because I am confined to my PSP and a connection from across the street.

I'm fortunate to have this resource. Without it I think I'd have stopped playing GT4 some time ago.

Just to get a quick comparison:
Subaru Impreza spec-C
oil, semi-race flywheel, race intercooler, stage 1 weight, SH fronts, SM rear tires
El Capitan (doing the enduro there)
best so far:
1'55.056 (2nd to that ****ed Elise and only because of my pitting difference)

How easy is this for you folks?

double post due to PSP's limitations.

Kent
Good luck and get back to us when you've got something for us. :D
Till then,
-
After running the Gran Turismo All Star Series (man, what a pain!), and winning the BMW McLaren F1, I gave it a 45 minute session on the Nurb according to your specs. Quickest time is a 5'37.679, absolutely not clean. I had a total of 4 full laps done since I restarted many times from spinning out at the most ridiculous of spots.

Basically went like this:

6'00
5'49
5'42
5'37

I think if I clean up my run it'll be in the low 5'30s and improving after that is a question of me fine tuning the driving to the car/track combo. All I can remember of all my splits is T2 which was 1'00.8xx (fastest being a 1'00.6xx so far)

Your lap must be really sweet Kent 👍

I was considering having a crack at the combo you pose Kent but seeing as though you came fifth overall in the Nurb week 30, I don't think I could hold a candle to your time, probably also seeing as though my best ever nurb lap was a 5'10 in the F1, 5'27 in something else doesn't seem likely for me. What's your best Nurb lap by the way in all cars?

What will amaze you are the mistakes I made. :ouch: :banghead:

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Since I've caught the eye of atleast a few here. :D

Here's the replay (as promised).

Don't forget that's NTSC. 👍
So I know Iceman can watch but who else?
Hopefully enough of you and specifically those who asked. :sly:

Btw, MisterWeary,
I don't really know what my overall fastest lap is... When I first got into the game I switched off between the Mclaren and the R8.
The R8 I haven't gone back to much but the McLaren is a regular combo in my free time (although I still find time for other racing). :D

Overall though... I can't even confidently say I've broken five minutes.
Maybe it's time to get that R8 out again and see if I can break into the sub-5-minute area. :mischievous:
That's gotta be harder than the McLaren. :scared:

I'll let you all know if I try it. :sly:

Until next time,
-Kent

It is a sweet lap indeed Kent. 👍
Up to T2 was near perfect. Yes you are a little conservative in the T3-T4 section, but it is probably a good strategy anyway because it is so easy to lose it there.

But everyone check out T6-T9 if you want to know how to drive that very difficult section. This is a great example how to do it. Very clean, very fast, and very controlled. I really like the controlled part the most. I have seen laps that were crazy fast, but it seemed like luck that they made it through clean, and it's hard to imagine duplicating it. This lap is just good technique that anyone could learn from. 👍

Although you made me catch my breath for a second at the last carousel Kent. hehe. You got a little sideways, and I was sure it would catch an edge and spin, but you didn't miss a beat. :P Nice!

As far as my progress goes, I was able to get to 5'30.4 last night. But the lap had one off, so it doesn't count. :indiff: I think this combo is going to eat at me until I do a clean under 5'30. And once I get it, the replay goes into my hall of fame folder along with my WRS win and BC5 race! It's that tough a combo folks.

If anyone wants to attampt a lap under 5'00 at the nurb, the best car is of course the Minolta. Even with TCS on in arcade, it's not too difficult to get. 👍
What would be difficult would be a 4'44 like Veil got. That lap was just sick it was so fast. lol.

Well...Minolta huh...I may just give that a crack...

I've just ordered a MaxDrive so I can upload my replay saves in the future, hopefully it'll arrive during the next week so I can put it to use for next weeks race, also I'll be able to use it to see other peoples replays and see which types of corners I lose out on which will be a huge help in the long run I guess.

MinorShunt,
Well thanks.

I really appreciate those kind words.

T2. :indiff:
Although it seems good, there are errors that cost me.
I should have been able to nail down a low 59. :ouch:
Oh well. :D

That T6-T9 section is pretty much my favorite spot. :sly:

But again, thanks for checking out the lap.
Glad you enjoyed it. :D

Good luck with your progress on the lap.
Hopefully the ghost you have will work to help you break 5'30 (or even beat me).

Until next time,
-Kent

Well Kent, I think my little obsession is over for a while. :D

I had some free time tonight and of course I had to give it another go. 👍
Strange that you mention T2.......I was consistently pulling 59.4-5 with a low of 59.268 but on my best lap below, I had a T2 of 59.867.:ouch:

So I started out with a high 5'31 to get the session started, then proceeded to knock down the following laps with only 2 restarts, and all of them clean! :crazy: ;

5'30.368
5'29.158
5'28.841
5'28.475
and then
5'27.477 yay!

I am well and truly pleased! This is the most fun I've had with the game in a while. I really appreciate you posting your replay Kent. I wouldn't have gotten this lap without it.  Next time there is an official competition at the ring, I will go in with a lot more confidence. Our driving styles are similar, so for me, your T6-T9 sector just made sense. I was able to correct the errors I've made there for a long, long, time. 👍

And you are correct. 5'25 is certainly possible. I made quite a few mistakes also. But I'm going to give it a rest for a while. Satisfied.:)

What?
You're gonna beat my time and not post a replay? ;)

Glad to hear you hit the lap though. 👍

Btw, I think this will push me into trying the lap again. :P

I tried the minolta for about 20 mins just to get down a lap and gauge where I could go with it and I've got a 5'18, I can see an easy 5-10 seconds but 20????? Don't know if I could break 5 mins

Don't be too quick to judge that Weary. 👍
You never know till you really give it a try. :mischievous:

If I make any progress I will let you all know.
In the mean time it's just nice to know there is another McLaren Ringer out there. :P

Edit:
New time... Highlights include these T times...

T4: 2'01.2 :(
T10: 4'50.1 :D
Final Time: 5'26.977

Checked it and saved it.
Clean and sloppy at the same time.

Yep, that's right, I found another huge chunck of time. 💡

Ran a 5'28.3 with a crash in it at the uphill right hander just after the bridge before T4.

Well with that down I went at it hard and came up with 5'27.1.
However, after I ran again that 5'27.1 I found a total of 1.3 seconds to gain between T6 and T7.

So even though I didn't capitalize on the new found "best possible" I still managed to get a new best lap.

It seems several people like the idea of racing the Minolta or the McLaren on the ring. What about creating a new thread for that in the OLR section ?

 Yup. I'll post a replay Kent. When I beat your current time.....:mischievous: :D (j/k I will post this one tonight. 👍 ) Just got excited and forgot.:dunce:

Nice lap BTW. One of us will get to that 5'25 mark. 👍 But take a look at my replay because I'm consistently in the low 2'00 at T4. There is a line through there that is speedy and doesn't knock you off the road with the bumps that I found. It might help??

Really nice T10! But you lost a bit at the end I think????? Maybe up to .500?? My 5'27.4 had a T10 of 4'51.171.

@Cyril. I was thinking the same. This might make a nice spot race in the OLR thread. 👍 I'll post one up tonight. What do you think Kent? One leaderboard for arcade an one for sim? I haven't tried it in sim yet, but intend to once the arcade race is maxed out.

flat-out
It seems several people like the idea of racing the Minolta or the McLaren on the ring. What about creating a new thread for that in the OLR section ?
Oh, so that's how it is? ;)

Anyway, back to the chit-chat...
It's 11am here, I'm on my first large cup of coffee.
School starts tomorrow and I've gotta find a job for this semester. :(

What's up with you all?
Anything new and exciting?

Edit:
Well, don't worry about your replay MinorShunt.
I know your a legit racer (even if you've never put your name down as a "replay supported racer").

Also, feel free to post the Ring challenge for Super Race cars or whatever you want. 👍
I would do it but at this point in my GTP life I have the poop-hand... Not the golden-touch or anything, but the exact opposite. :(

So please, feel free to post the challenge up (just make it pretty ;) ).
I'll be happy to post my times.

Btw, I can't deny that it would be nice to see how badly my T3-T4 section is. :P

MinorShunt
Yup. I'll post a replay Kent. When I beat your current time.....

And so the cycle of violence continues...
- Next week on hardline: The Use Of Performance Enhancing Tires... Legal Means For Speed Or Evil Arcade Skill Killers?

Until next time, this is Kent Hoggatt saying "stay classy WRS."

:edit:
I've lost my drive for this combo... Need a few days off.
It can really make you want a break from the fast stuff.
I'll catch you all around in the Spot Race thread if I see one... Otherwise, back to the chit-chat here. :P

Here's my replay Kent.
I need a break from this combo too! But I'll get back to it and will post a spotty when I have more time to do it up right. 👍
