This car was built by Tulio Crespi, an argentinian racing driver. It was based on the IKA-Renault Torino (photo below).

Sometimes in the history of motorsport can be found some very strange ideas of race car designs. Ardex S80 BMW is certainly one of them.

The idea behind the design of the Ardex machine was to make as much use of the Venturi ducts as possible, that is, to design the chassis tunnels in such a way that they accelerate the air entering under the car and create as much vacuum as possible, which translated into the car being sucked off the ground. In order to make the tunnels as large as possible, they went so far as to abandon the layout with the engine located centrally between the rear axle and the cab, and the engine was placed... The engine was placed at the front, partly next to the driver, and the exhaust pipe was placed in place of the door on the right. In addition, the rear wheels were completely hidden under the body.

The engine itself was taken from BMW. It was a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter unit with 6 cylinders of the M88 type, used in various formats in the road and racing M1 model. The idea for the S80 turned out to be a hit... all too well (!) The squatting effect on the straight sections was so great that it severely limited the car's top speed, and the overly slow Ardex didn't qualify for Le Mans in 1981.

P.S Can you imagine that TOO MUCH downforce in race car can be disadvantage ? After all, it almost sounds like saying : my sports car has too strong brakes , or my sports car has too sticky tires.

Covini 6SW Is The $640,000 6-Wheel Supercar - So why put 4 wheels on the front of a car? Well, the additional set of wheels effectively doubles the contact patch of the front tires leading to more grip. More grip turns into faster cornering and stability during cornering. Having 6 wheels also means you now have 6 brake rotors and the contact patch of 6 tires to slow down hypothetically leading to better braking performance.

P.S Photos are not photoshopped .

These are interesting posts, but are they truly cars you just learned about?

Isnt it place for like it is written in the title of this thread : "Cars you didn't know existed, until now!" ?

I don't know what exactly you mean . Could you kindly explain in more detail what you think is wrong with these posts ?

The point of the thread is “I just discovered this car that I did not know existed. Let me share it with you.” If this is what you’re doing, that’s fine. But your posts read like “I know about this obscure care and I want to share it with you because I think you may not know about it.” This thread is about the poster’s automotive discoveries, not the reader’s.

Respectfully, I don't think this is a worthwhile distinction. Sure, the OP sets the tone, but can it really be so bad if people are still introduced to interesting cars?

Not at all. So I’ll continue to post in the spirit I think this thread is intended, and others can post in the spirit they think this thread is intended, and I’ll step away from this gate I never intended to be keeping.

Certainly is.

Today I saw something good - I was at an event, but the car was a distracting one in the background, it was an import, communist, custom, Hot rodded muscle car, that I might have forgotten about or simply didn't know about until now. It's sexy and mean - surprising for such an odd color, perhaps due to it's tasteful modifications, that was unique in being based on a Kei wagon! It had some rare factory options but otherwise the interior was ugly, cheap, boring and bizarre all at the same time. To top it all off, it had OEM wheels from a different manufacturer on it. I spent so long looking at it, that I'm tired of seeing it.

... I was thinking about creating a new thread for it.

I gather you're being facetious, addressing the supposed superfluous nature of the thread, but that might not be your intention.

The distinction I'm referring to is the difference in subject of the "you" posed twice in the thread title. It's either the title speaking to the poster, in which case posters submit vehicles they've just discovered, or it's posters speaking to others browsing the thread and they submit vehicles that others may not have learned of.

Yeah, the thread is probably superfluous, but then the subject matter may indeed be obscure creations with widely varying production figures, and I think that's merit enough.

The thread's also fairly old, preceding my participation on the forum...and, as far as I can tell, even yours.

I regenerated shortly after my initial participation...

But yeah it was a comment on the unnecessary specificity of threads when one thread entitled "I'm posting about a car I want to post about" would pretty much cover everything anyway.

I get it. I've even come down against proposed additional threads that are even more needlessly specific than those that already exist.

But I will say this...

I've posted in most of these threads and I've noticed I get likes for my submissions from individuals in some threads while I don't get them from the same individuals in other threads. I suspect this is due in part to some individuals favoring some threads over others. Those individuals are likely looking for something in particular and their interests are more likely to be satisfied by some degree of variety.

Porsche 914/8

I always have a soft spot for 914 despite the engine. But this one has a freaking flat 8 engine from the 908. Only 2 cars were ever build, the first one producing 350 hp , while the second one is detuned to 300 hp. This thing is bonkers. Shame they never produce more of these.

Ferrari 512 BB LM

If you're ever able to get hold of a copy of 'Into the Red' by Nick Mason, there's a CD inside the book which has a recording of the car. It is simply beautiful (amongst the other cars on there - the 312T3 is spine-chilling).

1982 Adayer Sportif coupe. Built by some mob called Dominion and International Automobiles. They took VH SL/E Commodores and modified them into coupes. Only 11 were made. Cool idea in theory. Shame they decided to give it a face only a mother could love though.

I'd prefer the aero headlights, but the wheels mess it up. Could have raised the parts bin for these at the least.

Widen them. Then, paint the centres, if need be.
