Your preparations for GT5?

Im just curious to see what preparations others have made. So far I have made these purchases for GT5 and im not even finished!

1. PS3 console £299
2. Sony 40" V4000 £599
3. G25 £99
4. Gameracer elite (buying very soon) £299
5. 325GB HDD to upgrade my PS3 £42
6. Currently own a 5.1 system but tempted to upgrade to 7.1 Dolby true HD etc
7. Changed ISP

I will just add that I changed ISP because I really wanted a faster upload for when I host. I was going to make a thread for UK members helping you find the best ISP and how you find out what is available from your local exchange. I haven't done so yet because im not sure if anyone is interested. Please let me know if you are. There is alot more to broadband than your download speed!!

Some may think im mad making all of these purchases for GT5 but I know for a fact it will be worth it.

Just add that I can calculate exactly what speed your broadband will be even whether its ADSL, ADSL+2. Usually this is accuate to within 1mb of your actual speed.

G25 - 99£??
:indiff::indiff:

Yes i've picked up some bargains.

The G25 was £99 at play.com for a very short period by simply entering a promotional code. The best bargain was my TV because Comet knocked £200 off for just 1 week and then John Lewis price matched. So I got this TV for £599 with 5yrs guarantee!!

I also got the G25 from Play. I'm currently looking for decent speakers, at the moment I've got Soundsticks for my Macbook and cheapo 2.1 PC speakers for my PS3 and 360. Ideally I'd like to replace both sets, so I'd need a set of speakers with multiple inputs to plug the 3 things into the 1 setup and be able to switch. The current setup means I've got eleventy adaptors on the cheapo speakers, and unplugging the cable from one to the other. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Whats the recommended broadband speed for GT5? I haven't played online yet, and I don't I would be either :P
Download speed doesn't matter so much but your upload speed is a factor and so is your latency.

The average upload speed for ADSL is 448kbps but with ADSL+2 you can have up to 2.5mb. Ideally your latency which is measured in M/S wants to be as low as possible. If your connecting to a local server you ideally want your ping to be around 20/30ms but nothing higher than 100. This obviously increases with distance.

Cable offer excellent download speed and relatively ok upload speeds but I wouldn't recommend Virgin media!

As I can't see where your from I would recommend an upload of at least 700kbps.

All in AU $

PS3 = $799
TV = $1000
worked out SD sucks with GT5P
Sony 40" X series = $3200 - much better
G25 = $300
Desk/table for tv and wheel = $100
currently welding together a cockpit = free
320GB HDD = $160
5.1 surround coming = $700

So we virtually have the same set up.:)

Have to say im envious you have the X series. Im very happy with my V 4000 but the X series are mean't to be immense. Never played GT5P on SDTV but I hear its awful!

sharp 46" full hd, check
ps3, check
dfgt, check
ht 5.1 harman kardon+jbl, check

now i need a solid wheelstand, i made one but it's too big. I don't know if i should sell the dfgt and get a g25 instead (i want the h shifter and clutch)

If anyone has money to burn I would recommend the following.

1. Pioneer HDTV if too expensive a Sony.
2. Broadband, Be/O2 they offer 1.3-2.5mb upload, low latency and you can have upto 16mb download, 1.3mb upload for only £9.79 a month!!
3. Onkyo amplifier.

As for broadband click on the link below and enter your postcode. Look to the right and note LLU operators and check if O2/Be has been enabled at your exchange. This is for UK members only.

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

How it works is ISPS such as BT, Tiscali etc offer ADSL Max whereas O2/Be, Sky are LLU operators offering ADSL+2. This means they install their own equipment meaning faster speeds at a cheaper price.

I shall explain why you should avoid Virgin media later on what I have more time.

Ive still gotta design and make a cockpit - no time or SPACE! BUT I do have a Yamaha HDMI amp, JBL 5.1 speakers, and a 40" series 6 samsung. Im not interested in online though, so my little USB stick plugged into my lappy connected via crossover cable to my ps3 with huge lag is just fine (only to get stuff off ps-store!)

EDIT why do you need the bigger hard drive by the way? for DLC? Good point - how much space would it take up?

Breaking news
GT5 the latest incarnation of the racing game by Polyphony Digital which has not even been released yet, is boosting world economy forcing game enthusiasts the World over to purchase new high end electronic equipment!

Samsung 1080p 52"
G25
Wheelstand Pro

not too keen on the surround, as i havent got much room at the moment, but might consider it once the actual game releases.

Haha, in all honesty I wouldn't own any of what I listed if it wasn't for GT5P, maybe the ps3, but definately not a TV as expensive as I bought

PS3 320 gb
Game Room: Tv Samsung 27´HD + Creative 5.1
Living Room: Tv 32´Non Hd (but indestructible... :( ) or Epson Projector (non Hd... :( ) + Yamaha 6.1
DFP + playseat

I´m ready to go....

-Panasonics 42pz80b plasma. £800 with stand
-PS3. Xmas Present '08
-Onkyo 605 amp. £150.00 Ebay
-Mission 773's floorstanding speakers,
with matching centre and surrounds. Amazing bargain at £60.00, ebay
-Logitech G27, Not available yet, allowing £200 or so
-G27 stand, budget 150
-A huge subwoofer to really feel vibration/bass from the cars, budget £200

nevermind all the money im spending waiting, buying crap like need for speed undercover.

Come to think about it, if this game never comes out i've spent a hell of a lot of money

need to build a cockpit! I have ps3, g25 , kef surround system, 10mb duplex ,32in lcd ready for me to build it. oh and need approval for spending cash for this from the girlfriend.

I'll need a cockpit and a G25 or Fanatec wheel.
Surround sound would be good too.
That's it basically.

Have a 40" Bravia W and a 40GB PS3 which came with it.

PS3 = 600€
HDTV = 1000€
5.1System = 300€
G25 = 195€
selfmade Sim-Rig = ca. 100€
Backup-PS3 = coming this X-mas (won´t get in trouble not having a PS3 if the one crashes (YLOD or BR-drive))

Im pretty set as i bought a sound system and 40inch bravia hdtv for the PS3 launch. Have since updated tv to a 46inch Bravia and am looking at updating sound system before GT5 launches. If GT5 supports multi screen for all gamme modes then i will be looking at picking up a few more screens and PS3's specifically for GT5, and in doing so will make a proper racing seat to suit

Bargain......
I can't get my hands on DF GT for £99 :grumpy:
I'm preparing (probably) with brand new LG Full HD LCD, DF GT and PS3 60 GB ( I'll get it repaired soon - YLOD ).
LCD + DF GT + repair = 1000£. :scared:

TV : SONY 40" Xseries
Sound:SONY DVD Surround 1000w 5.1
Console: SONY PS3 of course :lol: 40GB
Control: DFP 4.5 years old
Cockpit: It's all in my head :lol:
So all I need is the cockpit as prep for the game, considering all prospects and not ruling out any. Oh except no wheelstand , what I've got now is better I think. MY RIG.jpg (95.9 KB)

Thats right Mr. Obama forget your stupid stimulus plan and endorse GT5. I wonder if Sony's stock will rise when GT5 is released... I bet it will.

Where do you get the 325GB HDD upgrade from, Im thinking ill be needing that :)??
Sorry because it was a typo error on my part because it should say 320GB HDD.

I ordered this from play.com (link below). I haven't installed this yet and I must admit im nervous because of various comments around the web about stripping the screws. Still I have taken action to combat this as Sony have very kindly offered to send me a new cradle for my HDD just incase. Would you believe there was no charge! If only MS were like Sony!

Have to say im pleased to see others have gone to similiar expensive, if not actually more than me!
