Your preparations for GT5?

Well considering I will be in college by the time GT5 comes out and probably broke or tight on cash... I guess I will have to hijack the school auditorium. I will miss my HDTV, receiver w/headphones combo.

just in the past 6 months i got a

panny 42 1080P
g25, made my own bomb cockpit
onkyo 5100 htib
even painted some stuff just waiting for gt5.

i have been waiting for this game now for the past 6 months and i guess im looking forward to waiting another 6 months. hopefully tgs will be the hole grail (ya not sure how to spell that)

Download speed doesn't matter so much but your upload speed is a factor and so is your latency.

The average upload speed for ADSL is 448kbps but with ADSL+2 you can have up to 2.5mb. Ideally your latency which is measured in M/S wants to be as low as possible. If your connecting to a local server you ideally want your ping to be around 20/30ms but nothing higher than 100. This obviously increases with distance.

Cable offer excellent download speed and relatively ok upload speeds but I wouldn't recommend Virgin media!

As I can't see where your from I would recommend an upload of at least 700kbps.

I don't have a PS3 but would like to get one sometime, like Christmas. But how does Internet speed affect the PS3 in general? I have terribly slow broadband. I know downloading from PSN Store on my PSP takes for ages ie. Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped took 3 hours!

Im just curious to see what preparations others have made. So far I have made these purchases for GT5 and im not even finished!

1. PS3 console £299
2. Sony 40" V4000 £599
3. G25 £99
4. Gameracer elite (buying very soon) £299
5. 325GB HDD to upgrade my PS3 £42
6. Currently own a 5.1 system but tempted to upgrade to 7.1 Dolby true HD etc
7. Changed ISP

I will just add that I changed ISP because I really wanted a faster upload for when I host. I was going to make a thread for UK members helping you find the best ISP and how you find out what is available from your local exchange. I haven't done so yet because im not sure if anyone is interested. Please let me know if you are. There is alot more to broadband than your download speed!!

Some may think im mad making all of these purchases for GT5 but I know for a fact it will be worth it.

Just add that I can calculate exactly what speed your broadband will be even whether its ADSL, ADSL+2. Usually this is accuate to within 1mb of your actual speed.

Well, now that we know, we can just put this argument into that thread.

Sorry because it was a typo error on my part because it should say 320GB HDD.

I ordered this from play.com (link below). I haven't installed this yet and I must admit im nervous because of various comments around the web about stripping the screws. Still I have taken action to combat this as Sony have very kindly offered to send me a new cradle for my HDD just incase. Would you believe there was no charge! If only MS were like Sony!

Have to say im pleased to see others have gone to similiar expensive, if not actually more than me!

Use the correct tools. I E size for the screws. I done it on two PS3:s so far and ha no problems at all.

GT is no doubt my favorite series for a game. Connects my favorite type of game, (Sim Racing) and my love for cars. But much much have you or will you spend to enjoy GT5 to the fullest?

i'd probably buy the collectors edition, as a student i cant afford wheelstands or top of the range wheels.

Ill make do with my more than ample DFGT and a desk of some sort to clamp it too :D

See, I find it truly pathetic when people see the need quote the prices they paid for their equipment on forums. I wouldn't mind if it was hundreds of thousands worth of Krell equipment, with 7.1 minimum and a race seat worthy of a true race driver - that would be worth a mention.

PlayStation 3 (obviously)
Vizio VW32L (surprizingly cheap! ;D)
G25... hmm, don't have it yet... but i will.
Adcom Preamp+Amp + Paradigm 9SE Mk. IIs... woah, baby.
WD 160GB SSD (for those who can't translate-lots of storage)
And... *drumroll*...
100MBp/s! FiOS FTW

I have so far.
1) Lined up a 42" 1080i HDTV for free
2) Arranged a budget that will allow me to buy a PS3 sometime in October
3) Started planning for a league

Looks like FiOS is spreading :D I get an average speed around 100down/25up with my FiOS line.

- PS3 (20gb from launch)
- 320gb WD HDD (20gb doesn't last long lol)
- Some kind of HDTV or LCD Monitor. The optics block on my HDTV broke, so I've got a big yellow tinted blob in the middle of the screen. Maybe a Panasonic G15 Plasma by the time GT5 comes out.
- 5.1 Surround (Polk with HK receiver)

Just getting the Collectors Edition, if they sell one! The lcd tv, bought for gaming not just for GT5. Had to buy DFGT wheel because wife said DFP was to noisy when trying to sleep.:sly:

I just need the console and the game(s)

Already have 24" Gateway LCD, Pioneer 5.1 but only fronts (no center) and sub are connected, space issues.

Looking to pick up a used/refurbished 20GB or slim when the game is launched. Might get a PSPGo but not before the console.
