Zombie Apocalypse! Get to the Shelter!

Shelter - If the Zombie Apocalypse happened while I was at school. I would get a gang of 3-4 people and run right across the street to the bank on the side. As far as I know the bank only has 2 entrances/exits, so with my plan 2 people can guard each exit. The bank is big and the grounds but we'd all camp on the first floor. Moving up every time things get to hectic. The parking lot also contains at least 30 bikes and cars, I'm sure I can learn how to operate one of them

Defense - We'd take the fire extinguishers from our school, to use just as a melee weapon and also just incase the zombies learn how to operate flamethrowers. The guards at the bank have batons and guns. So this would be my other resort. Our school guards also have batons, so we'd take them to. There's a lot of greenery around our school so we'd collect this and put it up around the bank so as to confuse the zombies.

Plan - There's a herd of about 15-25 goats that go past our school every day. We'd kill them and use them as food. Water would be in supply as it raisin during this time of year. We'd use buckets to collect the rain and the bank's kitchen to boil it. If zombies do penetrate our defenses then we'll go up a floor, this will repeat until we get to the top floor. If they get us there we'll jump off, the building's not to tall and we should be able to survive.

Once we've depleted half of our food resources we'd start traveling north to Chandigar. First we'd take cars to the abandoned ferries. Pile the cars on to a ferry and take it to Mumbai. While the city would be pretty infested, we'd stick to the outskirts so as to attract less attention (in cars obviously, taken from the bank). We'd obviously take some food from the bank so as to not starve.

We'd then steal some more food as stock up for the next part of the journey. Again, we take a car to Rajasthan, and then stock up and take some rest. After that, we'd travel to Chandigar and camp there. The city is built in a grid formation so it'd be easier to form tactics. The temperature is cold in winter (zombies freeze) but not to cold so as to make living difficult and in the summer there'd be little rain fall so water would still be available.

In the event of a zombie apocalypse, I would go to sea with enough provisions to last me a year or two. This should be enough to survive the initial onslaught, and give the zombies time to die. Again.

I would then find an island; ideally, somewhere uninhabited, and easily defensible - high cliffs, difficult terrain and some distance from the coast. Somewhere cold, if possible. I would build a fortress there, and then re-establish contact with the outside world.

I'm bored, I'll play..... :P

SHELTER SITUATION
I live in a rural area, med-size 2 story house, I do have lots of survival equipment, guns, ammo and food supplies here. From all the cycling I have a perfect 3D-map of the surrounding area in my head, which can be really helpful.
I'd be hard pressed to think of a better place to stay to sit out a disaster.
Staying in my house is a no-brainer, I'd fortify it with everything I've got (lots of wood around here) barricade the windows and dig a 6 feet trench around it, with bear traps etc.
I would turn it into the most unattractive object to attack or raid you can imagine. :D

FOOD & WATER
I own a natural well which is only approx 100 yds down the street, defending the well and protecting a water carrier with accurate rifle fire with one of my scoped rifles from a window would be very easy. There is no cover around the well and that would make it easy for me to spot and neutralize dangers early.
Its also the only well around here so I could demand a fee for the water. (*evil laughter*)
The surrounding area is heavily forested, I see a group of 10-15 deer every day, well within the range of my weapons; setting up traps and fishing at the nearby river would provide a steady food supply.
I'm also growing potatoes, tomatoes and chili in my garden but not enough to keep me running - its a nice extra though.
Oh, and there's also lots of birds around here, even in winter, easy prey for my shotgun.

DEFENSE
I'm a gun collector and practice with my rifles for 4 hours every week, I can shoot quickly, accurately and instinctively; I know my guns like the back of my hand. I have lots of spare parts and I own several very reliable systems. Ammo supply? Sure! :sly:
No guns? I'm not a martial artist or a boxer but I'm an avid weight lifter, with 6'1 212 lbs I can lift or wrestle down a normal guy my height easily. I also own a few knives, two swords, two fire axes and could make primitive improved weapons if I had to to.

NEIGHBORS
I have only a handful of neighbors and I know them well, they like me. Almost all of them are farmers with livestock; they're all 60+ years old so they wouldn't be much of a threat to me, I could easily steal supplies from them if things get desperate though I'd prefer to protect them with guns if they give me some of their produce in return.
In a zombie apocalypse they'd be totally helpless and would certainly need all the protection they could get.

FIRST AID & MEDICINE
Big problem here, I only have a very basic knowledge of first aid and my medicine supply is very limited, I do not have a surgical kit. Fortunately I don't suffer from any chronic diseases that require medical treatment every day and I get sick very rarely, most of the times I defeat the germs in a matter of three days without medicine.
However, one of my neighbors is an experienced nurse. 💡

HEATING
Wouldn't be a problem, if my oil furnace doesn't work anymore I have two independent fireplaces that work with lumber I can gather from the woods or trade from my neighbors. I can chop down trees with my fire axe.

ESCAPE
In the case I've failed defending my property, the house is no longer safe and I have to leave immediately I'd grab emergency bug out backpack which holds ammo for my most reliable go-to rifle, a cleaning and repair kit, food rations for about 4-5 days, a survival book, a knife, a head lamp, a map, a compass, medi-pack, etc. If cars isn't an option I have good bike and can reach the next big city in about an hour, the houses of my relatives in 2-4 hours - if the roads are save.

Michael, your preparation takes the cake........... but I think this dude stole the thread:
There's a herd of about 15-25 goats that go past our school every day.

I admit, I am a city slicker, but come on!
to whomever may post/be interested in/read this thread, check this out:

I just read one of the comics in there. Pretty interesting. Checking out the rest. 👍
2) Defense - I need a tactical shotgun, and I'd really like a AK-47, but I don't have them.
I have addressed one of the issues. I got myself a tactical shotgun, and while I could have just bought the cheaper, standard shotgun, it's just not as effective or official against zombies, and everybody knows that. I will get around to the rifle eventually.
But as I typed this, I just realized that I don't own a portable radio that will run on smaller batteries. I better get on that. Maybe a handcrank one. Oops.
I haven't been sitting on my hands, this has also been taken care of. Bought myself a portable SONY that runs on couple of AA batteries for ten bucks. Has built-in speakers! By the looks of it, it's from the 80's!

Definitely useful for the impending zombie apocalypse, and also in the unlikely case of natural disasters and stuff like that, too.

 They must already be dead to be classified as zombies, unless, of course, you are a philosopher and in which case that term will mean something different.

What if the zombies were dead philosophers?:scared:
Would they be epicurean or platonic?

Awkwardly enough, I live in the city. For some reason though, the goats are still there, munching away on the bushes outside our school (I do live in India though, it's not uncommon to see a bull or two on your way to places here and there).

Jack a truck/van, go to Homebase and jack all the chainsaws hammers and axes. Go to Sainsburys to get essentials. Bomb over to my friends houses pick them up then go to my school and set up base in there. If we are hopelessly outnumbered and trapped I'd go down fighting chopping heads.

C, C, D, B, B.

I'd go with...

1. D - Shotguns have a wide blast radius and can blow zombies to chunks. An assault rifle would only slow them down.

2. B - The zombies will find me anyways, and a rapid firing secondary would slow them down a bit.

3. B - Out of those choices, the katana is the longest of them. Though chainsaws are more lethal, what happens when it stops working? And a machete is too short to fight against zombies.

4. D - Take a guess why.

5. A - You would think I am crazy not to choose the tank, but the tank is too slow and if it breaks down, you are screwed. A Hummer would be better since it is fast enough to get from point-to-point, and can be refueled pretty fast. Not only that, it carries more supplies.

1.c. Even though I hate the AR-15 system it still is be the best from the list, dropping zombies very rapidly at up to 400yds is no problem with that thing, lightweight ammo means you can carry a lot of it.

2.c. Ultra reliable service pistol, goes bang every time and does have a big magazine capacity. You can't go wrong with that.

3.d. Machete, weapon and tool kombined.

4.d. Mutitool, THE essential survival equipment.

5.a. Jeep. Its basically mobile shelter and it has a huge storage capacity for essential equipment, but does not draw as much attention as a freakin tank and needs FAR less gas. In fact, the M1A1 runs with special fuel and its gas turbine is a gas guzzler, you'd be screwed after a few hours of driving it around.

1 - C , a few shots and there's done ... unless if I had infinite munitions , I would chose the B.

2 - D , you can build munitions through wood and it doesn't make noise ... doesn't atract dead idiots.

3 - B , easy to handle.

4 - B, I can't see at night.

5 - A , I can run away while I ran over a few.

AABCD

1. A. Longer range your killing from the better

2. A. If one creeps up on you you'll want the most firepower in the blink of an eye. For the reasons of rationing ammo, the Desert Eagle wins

3. B. Get my Devil May Cry stuff on lol

4. C. Handy in several situations

5. D. Zombies.... I hope.... Cant swim....

C, C, D, B (&D if I could find one), B, Also, I could write my logic behind it, but I think it's self explanatory.

The Car and Tank you wouldn't have cause I am sure there would be a fuel shortage epidemic, same with chainsaw that fuel would be better in a motor bike.

Shotgun, crossbow, machete, torch (flashlight) and boat.

Shotgun because I like to keep this handy for close encounters, crossbow for long range/silent kills (and I do mean silent, the suppressed pistol still makes a lot of noise) as well as the scope for... Scoping things out, machete because it's silent unlike the chainsaw and a useful tool for many, many things and the boat because I live near a canal, provided that zombies can't swim it would be the safest way to travel. Would need oars though, for when all the petrol in England runs out.

We can't forget of :

Flashbang
Frag Grenades
Claymore
Predator Missiles

Everyone of those things we can find in COD MW3 :P

I'd be running with Michael & Solid:

1) I really want the "a", but AR has long enough range, and it can go semi, or full-auto. Can't discount the M203. I can also share the ammo with the other two.

2) Again, "a" is tempting, but yeah, you don't need that. We are talking about Zombie Apocalypse, and it's serious business. I'll take what looks like the USP. Silencer is a big plus, and .45's an excellent round.

3) Jesus, I want "a" again, but again, I'm opting for another popular selection: "d". Machete can double as a cutting tool.

4) Obvious choice here would be the "d", the multi-tool, but since my two mates has the swiss army knife on them already, I'll take the flashlight.

5) I'll take "a", the H2 Hummer. I can also give Solid a lift, when his M1A1 runs out of fuel. Again. :P

For the primary weapon I'll go with the AR. The Spas looks tempting but the AR would be a smart choice for long and close range. Plus by the looks of, it's got a grenade launcher.

I'll go with the USP for the secondary weapon. The USP has a large clip and it's got a silencer so it'll be handy if I don't want to draw attention, while not giving up too much firepower.

Machete because I could use it for more then killing zombies.

A flashlight for night time.

The Jeep because it's more mobile then the tank and I'll still be able to take some zombies out. Plus it's faster then the tank.

Not a very realistic list.

1. C. Most of those are overkill. You want a weapon that's silent, lethal and with easily-scavenged ammunition. The sniper rifle is too loud and bulky and the rocket launcher bloody useless. The shotgun will be good for close range work indoors, but at medium ranges, I'd worry if the grouping would be tight enough to cause a good amount of internal damage to a zombie. Most practical would probably be the AR, but scavenging ammo would be a pain.

Personal choice would be a semi-auto .22 caliber rifle with a 30-50 round magazine.

2. D. As long as it's combined with a high-ammo capacity long-arm, the crossbow should fill the niche of silent takedown nicely. This one is for taking out stragglers or small groups from a distance. And you can recover and reuse ammunition. For in close work, I'd switch straight to melee and not mess around with reloading.

Of course, better if you could get a pistol chambered in the same caliber as your primary. Like a .22 caliber revolver or automatic (to go with the semi-auto .22 rifle) or a silenced pistol mated to an assault weapon like the MP5. You really don't need long range weapons, anyway.

3. A. Best melee weapon. Chainsaw too heavy and relies on gas, and the katana is too long for close-quarters fighting. I was tempted to say machete. It's more useful in general, but it can get snagged on rotting clothing, between zombie ribs or stuck in a half-split zombie skull. The bat can break zombie arms and legs to disable them and can be used to bash in skulls to kill them.

Of course, the correct answer should be crowbar. You can use it to pry open doors, vending machines and locks, too.

4. C. A strong synthetic rope is one of the most useful survival tools... ever. Secure doorways, net off windows, use to climb up or down things... use to tie provisions together or to lift heavy objects... use for traps... etcetera.

5. Not a great selection. The H2 (as opposed to the H1) is a gas-guzzling monstrosity
that's too wide, too cumbersome and which will be difficult to gas up after the first two weeks. The dirtbike will run on horse urine, but will be difficult to use while carrying provisions and would be useless for carrying incapacitated companions. The tank is completely useless, unless you fancy dying inside of one, and the pontoon boat isn't a safe place to sleep in at night. Give me a decent diesel pickup or SUV (like a classic "Defender")... something I can refill with rancid vegetable oil from supermarket shelves long after other scavengers have pumped the gas stations dry.

CBBDD.

I asume zombies can't swim, I'll just go to the shore once in a while and get some supplies.

Looking at it again, I think it's actually the H3 Hummer. You know what they say about H3's. Honda Civic of Hummers(no, they don't say that).

You'd have to anchor far off-shore... and you'd have to do it in a body of water that's relatively calm. Rough seas while you sleep? Goodbye provisions... hello dunking...

If it's an H3... objection retracted. Still not that great, interior space is terrible compared to other vehicles based on that chassis, but it's a good working chassis and a work-a-day engine.
