Our first 24 hour event of the year got under way last weekend with Qualifying Practice. Despite being affected by persistent issues with the PlayStation Network, resulting in QP2 having to be abandoned, 29 drivers took to the track.
In the DP class Team Midweek Motorsport Racers set the pace with TNR_5zigen [Platinum] recording a 1:40.150 on his 6th lap.
In GTLM, TRL_EVOLUTION [Platinum] set a 1:44.434 for Inferno Racing in their BMW M3 E92. And in GTD (GT3 AM), GTP_Patrick1 [Silver] of WRS North America lead a highly competitive field with just 00.015 and 0.956 separating the top two and ten respectively.
Last year’s event saw treacherous weather conditions and action from the GT500, LM P2, and GT3 classes. A dramatic final few minutes saw Team Wise Racing (Lexus SC430 GT500) take victory after 807 laps, after the sister Lexus of Escuderia GTMX miscalculated on a final splash and dash pit stop.
In GT3, Avalerion Racing (Audi R8 LMS Ultra) took the spoils after 759 laps, less than 4 laps ahead of season-long rivals Top Notch Racing (NISSAN GT-R NISMO GT3).
This year we have a different dynamic, with a largely GT based field the DP class will have a lot of traffic to deal with when lapping the 3.56 mi (5.73 km) circuit. Both Escuderia GTMX and Team Wise Racing return for a rematch, they are joined by the 2015 GTPlanet LM P3 Champions.
GTPlanet’s Youtube channel will be broadcasting the entire race live, which you can catch up top. The playlist allows you to easily jump to the next portion of the race once we move to a new stream. In the commentary box, you’ll be hearing from these six voices:

Great coverage and commentary but personally I think it’s a shame they aren’t all “real” cars. Please don’t ever open these events up to the SRT and Chaparral VGT cars, or the Red Bull cars =)
