I don't know if this has been done before, but lightly tuned Touring Cars sounds great to me 👍.

How about a race around Deep Forest in either an Aston Martin V8 or a Mercedes Benz CL600?

How about getting on the back of the wheel of Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 and take a look at the nice views of Seattle? Might get interesting ;)

I've been doing some thinking about an 80's car race :) It hasn't been done yet, and most of the cars haven't been used in a weekly.

Here are all the 80's cars in the game (based on the descriptions in the dealership, not the year that appears in MK's Garage Editor):

XJ220 Road Car ................... 516hp ..... 1375kg ...... 2.6pwr
Skyline R32 GT-R S-Tune .......... 432hp ..... 1500kg ...... 3.5pwr
Trueno SS ........................ 217hp ...... 825kg ...... 3.8pwr
Corvette Grandsport .............. 330hp ..... 1496kg ...... 4.5pwr

Skyline GT-R V-spec II (R32) ..... 276hp ..... 1500kg ...... 5.4pwr
300ZX (2 seater) ................. 276hp ..... 1520kg ...... 5.5pwr
300ZX (2x2) ...................... 276hp ..... 1580kg ...... 5.7pwr
Silvia K's 2000cc ................ 202hp ..... 1170kg ...... 5.7pwr
RX-7 Infini III (FC) ............. 212hp ..... 1200kg ...... 5.7pwr
Skyline GTS-T Type M ............. 212hp ..... 1260kg ...... 5.9pwr
240SX ............................ 202hp ..... 1220kg ...... 6.0pwr
Silvia K's 1800cc ................ 172hp ..... 1120kg ...... 6.5pwr
Trueno ........................... 128hp ...... 925kg ...... 7.2pwr
MX-5 ............................. 128hp ...... 980kg ...... 7.5pwr

Alto Works Suzuki ................. 63hp ...... 710kg ..... 11.2pwr

I think it'd be great fun to have a power-to-weight ratio race with a limit of 5.0 from this set of cars (lightly tuned or stock after break in and oil change) at Deep Forest Reverse or at Apricot Hill Reverse (both tracks which favour handling).

EDIT: hmmm .... seattle might be interesting, too :mischievous:

I wouldn't mind seeing a race using a lightly tuned 240SX. It's a blast to drift, and I think it would make a great WRS car.

I'd really like a chance to drive the Silvia K's 2000cc or the RX-7 :-) both very underrated in IMO. The RX-7 gets a bad rep from the Initial D connection.

I'd go with a Miata or an 86... the lightest cars there that meet the power requirements.

Like, make it so you can get as close to 5.0 power to weight if ya want... but we should also look at the torque, since that has to do with cars performance as well.

Stuff for mods... some sort of suspension upgrade... Sports tires... drivetrain level 1? Except the tranny maybe.. cause some of those stock ones are just.. dumb.. so full tuneable there. You choice of a basic LSD. Or maybe just your choice outta the cheapy trannies as well. Alot to do here... I like it. I want to see different cars in teh same event for once. Choices are good

Sounds like a good idea to me as long as there is a P/W ratio of no more than 5.

Why not try the Vauxhall Calibra Touring Car or the Mercedes CLK Touring Car at, lets say, Rome Circuit or something like that ? Some real old timer DTCC action :mischievous:

Mercedes CLK touring car is a good choice.I like it more then the Astra or Calibra.

Just 2 weeks before nr.100 :)

Wow!

You all have replied in this thread more than I previously thought; had to read back a page to see Luxy (great post) as well as a few other mentions of races like a DTM.

Let me think...
First, the trueno ss... Been used, go look up "Initial Dee's Nuts" in the WRS Archive sub-forum. :mischievous:

Next, I've got to say that Luxy made a good list of cars.
Very intersting picks, but some have been used before. Miata13b and I drove the grand sport way back in a budget race from boom. :D
Others on the list are good picks as well. 👍

All I can really say is that I will make the best choice I can.
Week 100 and 104 should be good races.

Thanks for all these great suggestions from all of you. :D

I'm already testing out cars to see how the work on Deep Forest for the 80's race.

So far, it seems just having power is the key... the Skyline GTs-T is the fastest outta an FC, it, and the 86.

Upgrades at the moment for them all are... basic suspension, level drive train, sports tranny, 2 way LSD, sports tires, and level one weight reduction. All are at about 5 for the power to weight ratio. None have better than that, but some are around a tenth off.

I don't think all the sports suspension were created equal.. the Skyline seems to do everything faster than the 86, and that was my first time driving that RWD Skyline. Same with the FC, it was a couple of seconds faster, and that was my first time in it as well...

But I will test it some more, as breaks in between running that Pig for the WRS right now... :P

Yeah, that's why I thought 5.0 PWR would be a good cut off. Eliminates the obvious/popular 80's cars, and makes for an unusual set of choices.

I got the messing around in arcade mode the other night driving a Silvia K's 2000cc around DF2. So much fun stock with a car that's nicely balanced.

The only thing I would change would be the transmission, cause the stock one doesn't let me get out of 4th (IIRC). I'd even do it on street or sport tires :mischievous:

How would you all feel about using the same car 2 weeks in a row?

Car of your choice :D

Each individual chooses their own car!
Some restrictions to create even racing!

On top of that,
The 2 weeks of racing use totally different tracks to even out advatages related to car choice!

Let me know what you all think. 💡

Bye

That could be really interesting, Kent.

You have my vote!

This does look interesting, but it must be a rule that the car remains secret.

I'm not sure that the car must remain a secret because the fact is, they will not remain secret.

Back-room chatting will lead to packs of better drivers sharing tips and secrets.
It will also prevent help with set ups and equipment choices.

I think that not requiring a person to announce their car is good, but not permitting the voluntary discussion of car choices is going a little too gestapo for this republican ;)

I'm glad to see the idea is going over well and I encourage all of you to weigh in. 👍

Btw, all cars would have to be shown in results regardless of disclosure during the racing week.

Car we make it so its like.... street cars? So I can drive my baby ;)

Speaking of which... I decided to fit dirt tires to an MR2 GT-S... now thats an interesting experiance... awesome car, just twitchy as hell.. and no down force.

I suggest some MR street car with dirt tires slapped on and full tuning, aside from maybe power. This seems to be a good way to test both driver skills and setup ablities, as most street MR cars are not setup for rally racing :dopey:

Also, I think you gots a great idea there, just as long as there is something to keep things in check...

An interesting twist to the two race idea might be to add a penalty to the fastest car choices (lots of road racing series have weight penalties for race winners, JGTC for example). That way, if one car clearly dominates, it would discourage people from just using it again the second week.

The penalty could be a PWR penalty.

Week 1 (5.0 PWR, just as an example):
1st place car: 0.750 penalty
2nd place: 0.500 penalty
3rd place: 0.250 penalty

So, in week two (again 5.0 as the base PWR):
1st place car from week one runs at or above 5.750 PWR
2nd place car from week one runs at or above 5.500 PWR
3rd place car from week one runs at or above 5.250 PWR

Kent mentioned two different tracks.
What about Seattle rev.or Rome (never used in my wrs period),tracks with walls, and Midfield. (normal or rev. no walls)

An interesting idea just crossed my mind. How about doing the 2 weeks with one car idea, but week one will be a rally and week two will be a road race. It would be interesting to see everyone's car choices at the end of it all!

Evo has a point.

However, I wasn't sure about dirt tire selection so things got thrown out of order. :irked:

I'm thinking this specifically.
1 week with a light weight advantage.
1 week with a heavy weight advantage.

Example:
Seattle vs Rome ;) 👍

With a pwr restriction and 1 car for both weeks it could be fun. :D

Plus, I have something up my sleeve to throw all of you off. :sly:

So hopefully things will work out well.

Good luck!

Actually...
Please keep ideas about car selection coming.
I just realized that my system is going to limit the race to 1 car.

Maybe some restrictions amongst the in-game cars would help me out a bit?
Thanks all.
I am sure we can come up with a good race 👍

How about a roadster race? I'd love to drive a Miata or and S2000 (I've got a really nice looking red Mugen S2000 that I've been dying to use for something :D ). I know there's lots more roadsters, just can't think of any off hand ...

Roadster 👍

But I love a good coupe. ;)

There is a chance that my original thoughts for a race will end with more than 1 good car for the race.
However, my fears of a one car race are valid.
I've seen it happen so many times. :(

Like I said though, maybe with help everything will be cool.
btw, roadster idea.... 👍
I originally wanted to see the miata as an option in my race plan but the 1 car theory is strong at the moment. :grumpy:

I'm not really a fan of either one, but a Corvette vs. Viper battle (road cars, not race cars), like the Evo Vs. WRX week a long ways back might be interesting. But please, not at seattle ;)

Could do the Acura RSX vs the (new) Toyota Celica ...

Aston Martin DB7 vs. Jaguar XKR

Ah... taking street cars and rallying them would be fun... want me to compile a list of dirt tire capable cars?

Roadster wise... sounds good... though I have this feeling the Lotus Elise or the S2000's will end up kicking ass :P

But this idea sounds like fun. 👍
