Week 23 winner 440 CHARGER

themebanner6ds.jpg

This week’s theme will be "Braking" as chosen by week 23 winner 440 Charger and runner-up franz.

Further explanation of theme:
Show the car under heavy braking, whether it be glowing red brake discs, or a lot of front body pitch/roll, or even smoking tires.

Tips for the entrants: Be creative. Submit high quality, clear, and vibrant images that catch the eye. I would suppose that a clear, crisp, and vibrant subject with a motion blurry background would give you a better chance of making the top 10. Oh yeah, and HAVE FUN!

Cars: Any
Tracks: Any

Phototravel will not be allowed this week.

Deadline for week 25 is January 28th

If you have any queries or concerns, feel free to PM Me.

Yeah ... PunkRock's Evo shot is very likely to win
but I guess 440 would like to see some cleaner/crispier shots
not to mention he is so addicted to color

I'm taking out my 905 for this, might have a good idea already. This is going to be fun. :)

Krame, I really like the vibrant colors of your entry. I have one ready; I just got done cropping it, but I'll wait 'till later to enter it.

Wow, nice pic there arsenal! Very well done, you've really captured the feeling of heavy weight transfer in braking, and the little airbrake on the back adds to it.
Perhaps the only thing I don't like is the gold wheels, buts thats just my personal taste.

Thanks for the replies vr6 and revolution. I know the gold rims don't fit too well with the Mercedes silver trim on that car, but I just love the gold/black combo too much (see also my entry in this weeks manufacturer comp).

BTW: Div, that is incredible work 👍 I had a feeling that one would be making its way from your gallery into one of the comps.

Div is back, can I request the original image, pre-photoshop?
I would like to see it because after looking at your gallery and seeing the same picture, sans glowing brake rotors, it appears that you have added them in, which would be against this rule:
You may use layers for overlay and layer adjustments, but not to alter the geometry and original subject matter of the picture: like adding stickers and body kits, and objects that are not in the original image.
My sincerest apologies if I am wrong, but I need to ask.

Dammit Div! I don't even feel like entering now. Everyone has been molested by your pic. I don't know how well it pertains to braking, but it is just "wow" looking.

And here goes nothing. I've added contrast to the brake rotor, then overlayed it over the original... I thought they looked kinda real...

Final Entry:

Evo, you can't "paint" on photos?

I added it with colours and I adjusted the contrast, it's not a real brake rotor that I took from a real picture, if that is the concern.

I'm afraid that you will have to change your final entry if you did paint on the rotors, as adding them into the picture would constitute altering the geometry and original subject matter of the picture, which is against the rules. My sincerest apologies, but rules are rules.

Hmmm, now that we are talking about this... I have also always thought you can't add things to a photo in this comp, but what about correcting what is already there? I mean we talk about 'cleaning' the photos all the time, but how much of that is really allowed? Say there is some 'dirty' line on your car and you want to make it straight, are you allowed to paint then? Or some dirty spot on it, can you paint over it? I mean this would not be creating anything new, just correcting what photomode has messed up.

Also, technicly you would not need to paint anything, you could just apply brightness, contrast, saturation etc. to a part of the image and take care of it that way? Could you? You know, I'm suddenly glad I never won this comp, coz I'm now sort of worried if all of my entries have been so legal after all. At least in the 'regular' comp which I have won I'm sure I have followed the rules all the way.

And what about that brightness, contrast etc, for the record, I have always assumed that in advanced comp you can apply brightness etc adjusment to parts of the image, but in the regular comp (where only brightness and contrast adjustment are allowed) you can only adjust the whole image. Is this correct?

Just what do you guys mean when you talk about 'cleaning' the photos?

You are right, you cannot add things into the photo that are not already there. When I talk about cleaning I am talking about using the tools listed in the first post to the best of my ability to make the shot sharper, brighter and better.
For example, guassian/motion blurring a part of the car to smooth textures and blend colours better. My view on the rules is that if the tool is not listed in the first post, don't use it.
About the brightness and contrast issue, in this comp you are able to selectively use brightness and contrast to enhance different parts of the image. I'm pretty sure that the normal PMC only permits B+C adjustments to the whole image, but you'd have to ask Brock5000 to be sure.

I hope that that clears everything up for you.

@Sejtur - Brightening up the disc glow is fine, so long as you only use the tools in the first post.

So I could just redo my pic..and select a circle and sature and contrast it? It would give the same result.

Can I do this?
