Keep the requests coming :)

There may be a wait.

Tomorrow I'm going camping, and will be back on Tuesday, so it'll either be very soon or on Tuesday.

I also need to do :

Chapparel 2J ' 70
Corvette C1 '64
GT 40 Race Car '6x
Toyota 7 '70

This comparison will test race cars from the 60's-70's.

The Chevrollet Corvette C2 Race Car, Chapparal 2J Race Car, Toyota 7 Race Car and Ford GT Race Car will battle at Infineon Raceway to see who is the best classic racer.

Chapparal 2J Race Car

Bhp - 694
Torque - N/A
Weight - 821 Kg
Drivetrain - MR

400 Meters Time - 10.309 Seconds

1000 Meters Time - 17.283 Seconds

Max Speed Test - 215.80 Mph

Infineon Raceway Sports Car Course Lap Time - 1'19.939

The 2J is well known on Gran Turismo 4 for it's shape, and in the past it's picked up many nicknames such as tumble drier, wash machine and toaster, mainly becaue of the huge fan on the back thats supposed to keep the car stuck to the ground.

The extremelly long gears did'nt help at Test Course, the 400 meter time of 10.309 seconds can be matched by a stock Tommykaira ZZII, but the 1000 meter time of 17.823 Seconds was'nt that bad, my Nissan R92CP set up for 300Mph speeds does 1000 meters in around 15 seconds.

The Chapparal has a redline limiter at 215 Mph, not much else to say here.

At Infineon, well, I could make a huge list of things about this car in a negative way, the brakes are bad, it can't stay on the ground, it has loads of understeer. I think I'll stop there, but the only good thing I could think of about the Chapparel is that it weighs 821 Kg, nothing on the track made it a very good car.

The general handling is pretty poor aswell as having understeer, it's easy to slide when turning into and coming out of corners.

After 7 laps of sliding and crashing, I manged a lap better than all the others of 1'19.393.

Ford GT40 Race Car

Bhp - 500
Torque - 448.15 Ft.Lbs
Weight - 998 kg
Drivetrain - MR

400 Meters Time - 10.350 Seconds

1000 Meters Time - 18.885 Seconds

Max Speed Test - 203.58 Mph

Infineon Raceway Sports Car Course Lap Time - 1'28.114

The Ford GT40 Race Car in the famous blue and red livery, won the Le Mans many times back in the 70's, and was one of the best cars in Gran Turismo 2.

At Test Course, the Ford lost to the Chapparal at everything, a 10.350 seconds 400 meter time, 18.885 second 1000 meter time, and the redline limiter kicked in at 203.58 Mph.

And at Infineon, I was expecting to be driving an angel after the Chapparals performence, but I ended up driving it's brother, it taken me 4 laps just to get the first corner right, and despite having shorter gears, I was lapping extremelly slowly compared to the Chapparel.

The brakes are bad, the handling needs some improoving aswell, and if this car was for sale in Gran Turismo 4, it'd set you back 4,500,000, for that, you can buy a fast car with good brakes and handling, or, 3 Chapparel 2J's with money spare.

I manged a lap time of 1'27.114, and I was driving at my best, thats 8 seconds slower than the 2J, and the 2J is the worst handling and braking car I've ever driven.

Toyota 7

Bhp - 800
Torque - 537.33 Ft.Lbs
Weight - 620 Kg
Drivetrain - MR

400 Meters Time - 10.193 Seconds

1000 Meters Time - 17.399 Seconds

Max Speed Test - 204.68 Mph

Infineon Raceway Sports Car Course Lap Time - 1'21.021

The Toyota 7, won from the driving mission hall, the most powerful car in this comparison, it is also the lightest.

At Test Course, it taken the 400 and 1000 meter test by storm with times of 10.193 seconds (400) and 17.399 seconds (1000), it beaten the Chapparals records.

Unfortunatly, it could'nt last as the redline limiter kicked it at 204.68 Mph.

At Infineon, the Toyota 7 felt better in turns than the Ford and Chapparal, but sometimes the rear would slide out, slightly like a drift.

The brakes could do with some improoving, they are'nt always easy to keep control of.

The Toyota is overall an easier car to drive than the Ford and Chapparal, but still not exactly easy, I manged a best lap of 1'21.021, placing it behind the Chapparal.

Chevrollet Corvette C2 Racecar

Bhp - 600
Torque - N/A
Weight - 1168 Kg
Drivetrain - FR

400 Meters Time - 11.291 Seconds

1000 Meters Time - 19.920 Seconds

Max Speed Test - 200.43 Mph

Infineon Raceway Sports Car Course Lap Time - 1'32.502

The Corvette C2, the only FR in this comparison, it's also the only one that weights over 1000 Kg, and the only one that did 400 meters in over 11 seconds.

As said above, the Corvette lost badly on the 400 meters, as so on the 1000 meters, and the redline came in at 200.43 Mph, so it lost all the Test Course events, is there any more hope?

Well, yes, there is hope, because the Corvette is the only one with good brakes, and the turning circle is much better than the others, and it dose'nt have as much understeer.

But then, it's slow accerating, sluggish out of corners, the Corvette is not fast enough to out perform the Chapparal or Toyota, it's not even fast enough to beat the Ford, I managed a lap time of 1'32.502, last place, again.

Toyota - Very fast accelration, won from the driving mission hall, bad handling and brakes though.

Chapparal - You'll need lots of practis to get this car doing fast lap times, brilliant if your good at it though.

Ford - Nice car, pretty good driveabillity, bad brakes though.

Chevrollet - The easiet to drive but slowest, good handling and brakes.

Enjoy reading, please comment :)

The general handling is pretty poor aswell as having understeer, it's easy to slide when turning into and coming out of corners.

The Chapparal handles perfectly well, except for La Sarthe I and II, and the 'Ring, where you have to be careful. And you spelt Chapparal wrong. It's an "a" not an "e". What tyres were you using?

In these comparisons I'm driving the car(s), everything said is based on what I think and noticed. At no time was B-Spec used in any of these tests. All used cars in these test have had an Oil Change. Race Cars run on R3 tires while Road Cars use S2 tires.

Thanks for the spelling error point out, I'm crap at spelling.

I was thinking the same thing. The 2J was going to walk with this, as it was the fastest of them (by far) in real life. The 2D would have been good against the GT40 and Z06 as it is very user freindly.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I was on holiday, I'm back now, so any requests shall be accepted.

In this requested comparison, the Saleen S7, BMW M5, Ford GT and Mercedes SLR will battle at Laguna Seca.

Saleen S7

Bhp - 550
Torque - 526.98 Ft.Lbs
Weight - 1250 Kg

400 Meters Time - 11.730 Seconds

1000 Meters Time - 20.583 Seconds

Max Speed Test - 216.59 Mph

Laguna Seca Lap Time - 1'31.576

T1 - 23.273
T2 - 44.930
T3 - 1'08.576
Finish Line - 1'31.576

The Saleen S7 has the worst stock settings for gears 1 and 2 I can think off, very long first gear, that takes you to a very short second gear.

That put aside, at Test Course, it did'nt perform to badly. Nice 400 meters time, followed by a strong top speed of 216 Mph.

At Laguna, well, what would you expect from an extremelly fat American car?

Understeer?

Yes, and lots of it, in the first lap (getting used to the car lap), I went into the sand four times, this was due to the amount of understeer, I was expecting it, but not as much as I got.

The brakes don't make up for it either, I was having to brake very early, especilly for turns such as the Corkscrew.

So, the Saleen is a (very) fast car, and is quite light for what it is (1250 Kg), but has lots of understeer and takes ages to enter and exit corners.

BMW M5

Bhp - 499
Torque - 384.06 Ft.Lbs
Weight - 1715 Kg

400 Meters Time - 12.583 Seconds

1000 Meters Time - 22.278 Seconds

Max Speed Test - 200.97 Mph

Laguna Seca Lap Time - 1'32.986

T1 - 23.917
T2 - 46.081
T3 - 1'08.597
Finsih Line - 1'32.986

The BMW M5, most powerful BMW road car in GT4, and compared to the Mercesdes SLR, Ford GT and Saleen S7, the M5 is, on paper, much worse, but can it out perform it's new rivals on the track?

The M5 has 51 Bhp less than the Saleen, and way over 100 Ft.Lbs less of torque, and to round it of, it's nearly 500 Kg heavier, maybe thats why it's 400 meters time of 12.583 seconds just could'nt match the Saleens time of 11.730.

It did'nt get better, the 1000 meters times of 22.278 seconds was nearly two seconds slower than the Saleens, and the BMW just managed to break to 200 Mph barrier acheving a speed of 200.97 Mph.

But things change, from getting slowley worse for the BMW, it started to get slowly better at Laguna Seca, despite having a 7 speed gearbox, it was set up better than the Saleens, the brakes are better aswell, and although the BMW M5 has understeer, it dose'nt have as much as the Saleen.

The BMW was just 0.5 seconds slower than the Saleen when they crossed T1, but losts nearly two seconds bringing home a time of 46.081 seconds at T2.
But then, the BMW's brilliant brakes and ability to enter and exit turns much faster than the Saleen meant it was able to catch up with the Saleen and was now just 0.040 seconds behind at T3.

But that could'nt last, in the last few corners before the finish, the Saleen was able to pull away and beat the BMW M5 by 1.5 seconds at the finish.

Ford GT

Bhp - 499
Torque - 500.01 Ft.Lbs
Weight - N/A

400 Meters Time - 11.327 Seconds

1000 Meters Time - 20.757 Seconds

Max Speed Test - 209.87 Mph

Laguna Seca Lap Time - 1'32.109

T1 - 23.031
T2 - 45.138
T3 - 1'08.267
Finish Line - 1'32.109

The Ford GT, I used the 6 Speed Concept Version, it has around 50 Bhp less than the 'non concept' version, but can still rival the other cars in this comparison.

The gears are quite alot shorter on the concept version, mainly because there's an extra gear added on. This helped at the 400 meters, beating both the Saleen and BMW M5, but then loosing to the Saleen at 1000 meters and max speed.

I noticed the Ford to have quite alot of understeer in the first half of Laguna Seca (up to the straight before the Corkscrew), maybe because the corners are all nearly at 90 degree angles, making the Ford want to go into the sand quite alot.

Once I was used to the understeer though the Ford was producing sector times faster than the Saleen and BMW, at sector 3 up to the finish, the Ford seemed to loose time compared to the other cars though, I knew this becasue at T3, the Ford was nearly equal to the Saleen and BMW, but was slower than the Saleen at the finish line.

After the 5 laps, the best lap time was 1'32.109, 0.6 slwoer than the Saleen, but around 0.8 seconds faster than the BMW.

Mercedes SLR McLaren

Bhp - 616
Torque - 575.73 Ft.Lbs
Weight - 1768 Kg

400 Meters Time - 11.599 Seconds

1000 Meters Time - 20.799 Seconds

Max Speed Test - 213.35 Mph

Laguna Seca Lap Time - 1'32.413

T1 - 23.576
T2 - 46.618
T3 - 1'08.425
Finish Line - 1'32.413

The Mercedes is the only car in this test with over 600 Bhp, it has the most Bhp and Torque, but also wins the prize for heaviest car in this test, just 60 Kg heavier than the BMW M5.

So, the weight is the main reason why it lost to the Ford and Saleen at 400 meters, and just lost to the Ford at 1000, and the Saleen gets the comfortable first.

At max speed, well, the Mercedes had beaten the BMW in 4th gear alone, a max speed of 213 Mph ssecured 2nd, behind the Saleen yet again.

The Mercedes is similar to the Ford in understeer terms, they both have around the same amount, but the Mercesdes is slower out of turns due to weight.

At T1 the Mercedes was placed 3rd ahead of the BMW, the positions stayed the same at T2, at T3, the Mercedes stole the Saleens position, now the Ford led, followed by the Mercedes, then Saleen, then BMW.

But it went downhill at the last sector, the Mercedes finsihed 3rd, just behind the Ford and just ahead of the BMW.

So, the Saleen wins all the tests, but that dose'nt mean it's the best overall car, or is it?

Saleen - Very fast and good accelration, but bad handling and big price tag.

Ford - Very nice car, not bad handling either, comes for free if you want the concept version.

Mercedes - Extremelly expensive, but also pretty fast, not bad handling but could be better.

BMW - In a class of it's own, to good for other luxury sedans, but not good enough for the supercars, quite cheap (110,000 est.) good value for money.

Upcoming comparisons :

Next - Supra - Skyline - 3000GT

After - World Battle (Two cars from each country, I thought of this one, clever me :))

George...The Ford GT is a six speed. Use the real thing to compare. Using a concept car against production cars is pointless. The Concept in GT4 probably never went over 40mph in real life. You think they were able to get any sort of realistic specs from it? If they did they are probably completely different from the production car.

wow.....i thought the SLR was way better than that......i don't think that car is going in my garage until i have all the stuff i want :sly:

Here, the Mitsubushi 3000GT VR-4 Turbo will take on it's rivals the Nissan Skyline GT-R and Toyota Supra RZ.

Mitsubushi 3000GT VR-4 Turbo

Bhp - 318
Torque - 354.63 Ft.Lbs
Weight 1710 Kg

400 Meters Time - 13.742 Seconds

1000 Meters Time - 25.154 Seconds

Max Speed Test - 172.21 Mph

Midfield Raceway Lap Time - 1'26.772

T1 - 27.749
T2 - 53.944
Finish Line - 1'26.772

The VR-4 Turbo is one of the more powerful 3000GT's in Gran Turismo 4, but can it outrun it's rivals in the 4 tests that are being carried out?

400 Meters was around average for a 300 Bhp sports car, 13.7 seconds, no wheelspin off the line, pretty fast accelration, but the fact it's over 1700 Kgs held it back.

Max Speed was very good, reaching 170 Mph in gear 5, I shifted at the start of the back straight and managed to reach 172 Mph.

Midfeild was pretty good aswell, although the Mitsubushi had a bit of understeer on some of the longer corners, I was able to control it, and the laps were gettting faster.

The brakes are very good, easy to keep control of, and also very powerful, this helped when braking on the front straight for the first corner.

T1 was a time of 27.7 seconds, T2 was 53.9, and the finished lap given a time of 1'26.772.

Nissan Skyline GT-R V Spec

Bhp - 324
Torque - 308.41 Ft.Lbs
Weight - 1540 Kg

400 Meters Time - 13.811 Seconds

1000 Meters Time - 25.121 Seconds

Max Speed Test - 173.26 Mph

Midfield Raceway Lap Time - 1'25.465

T1 - 27.036
T2 - 52.166
Finish Line - 1'25.465

The Skyline V-Spec, there are so many, I'm using the LM Limited version made in 1995, it's a year newer than the 3000GT, but is it better?

At 400 Meters, the Skyline felt slightly like the 3000GT, maybe because they're both 4WD and both have around 320 Bhp. But it was 3000GT that came out first today, winning only by around 0.070 seconds.

The close battle continued as the Skyline only just taken victory over the 3000GT for 1000 meters, winning by 0.034 seconds.

The Skyline continued to shine over the 3000GT around the max speed track, as I shifted the Skyline into 5th, it just manged to beat the 3000GT, managing a speed of 173 Mph.

The Skyline felt very good at Midfield, no understeer at all that I noticed on the 4 laps, the brakes are'nt as good as the 3000GT's, but they are'nt paticulary bad either.

At T1, the Skyline was leading by 0.7 seconds, at T2, the Skyline was still leading, but by nearly a second.

At the finish, the Skyline had extened it's lead to 1.3 seconds, producing a time of 1'25.465.

Toyota Supra RZ

Bhp - 337
Torque - 349.40 Ft.Lbs
Weight - 1515 Kg

400 Meters Time - 14.107 Seconds

1000 Meters Time - 24.939 Seconds

Max Speed Test - 180.35 Mph

Midfield Raceway Lap Time - 1'24.706

T1 - 26.971
T2 - 52.807
Finish Line - 1'24.706

The Supra lost and came 3rd at 400 meters, but came back and won 1000 meters and set a flying top speed of 180.35 Mph.

No wheelspin from the line, but slow accelration held the Supra back, but it did'nt seem to matter at Midfeild since the Supra was very fast entering corners, and very fast at mid corner, despite having more understeer than the other two, it was controlable, and the speed I was able to acheive on the few long(ish) straights put the Supra ahead of the game.

At T1, the Supra just got 1st place, beating the Nissan by just a fraction of a second, at T2, the Supra dropped to 2nd behind the Skyline.

But I was able to comeback, the Supra beaten both other rivals to the finsih, the Skyline finishing second, 3000GT 3rd.

Conclusion

Supra - Slowaccelration, but brilliant top speed and good cornering makes the Supra an overall great car.

Skyline - Best handling and least understeer of the 3, fast accelration and good cornering.

3000GT - Slower than the other 2, also has more understeer than the Skyline, and nearly as much as the Supra, also the heaviest, the 3000GT is the worst of the 3.

Hope you enjoied reading, please comment :)

I suggest reading my review about 3000GT MR'98. it seems to be bit more tricky than 4 years older model.

I shall if you could give me a link.

Anyway, I've changed my mind about the comparison I had in mind, so I'm accepting requests.

But please, no Japanese cars, many of my comparisons already include cars such as the Impreza, and Skyline etc.

Thanks.

You don't appear to have any comparisons between classic European sports cars. Maybe something along the lines of:

Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600
Alpine A110
Jaguar E-type
Lotus Elan
Mercedes 300SL "Gullwing"

I'll have to disagree on this with you:

" Supra - Slowaccelration"

Why? Well, the Supra has got the best acceleration out of the Japanese cars 👍

Turbo lag. A while ago I heard someone say, "What's the difference between a 600 hp Supra and a 1200 hp Supra? They both run the same quarter mile times."

The Supra, especially the Mk. IV, can handle an incredible amount of boost, but the larger the turbo, the longer it takes to spool up. Give it a little more room than a quarter mile and it'll destroy the competition.
