NEWS UPDATE 25-7-07:

According to new Famitsu, Prologue will feature money, aka Credits system of some kind for vehicle buying. Those credits will be transferable to later Gran Turismo 5 full game.

Professional Mode will be introduced for the first time - still no details about it though.

The locations of GT players are shown on the world map on My Page (like Folding@HOME) thnx B3D forums

Also, Prologue obviusely won't come free since they state the "new downoads for additional tracks and vehicles" will be free. We'll have to pay for the first time then. No details yet about a cost.

They've confirmed 40 cars and announced 4 tracks with 8 layouts. Online will come in 2 options: with or without chat. Confirmed 1080p and real time HDR lightning in-game .

My speculation says that we can expect Suzuka GP, Suzuka East and Suzuka West and Eiger Nordwand in both directions. Since the Eiger Nordwand on GTHD demo is called "Eiger Nordwand Short Track" there is possibility of having the Long Track with both directions. Those would be 7 layouts - which leaves us one more.

Question for 100.000$ - which one? :) Or is those only 2 tracks? Or Eiger would be 2 tracks for Long and Short? Or just 3 Suzuka and Eiger? But then how 8 layouts? Something is wrong in this math...

Great news though.

40 cars 👍 4 tracks 👎 Although hopefully this means that we can expect regular downloads to be made available via PSN.

I care about "Professional Mode" most. Track count doesn't matter. Give us 16P online, Suzuka and Nurb. Enough for 6 months :).

Four tracks are still better than just one track that gets old quick. Fear not. I'm sure there will probably be some Grade-A material for all to enjoy even with this light package. We just need wonderful people like amar212 to keep us informed on any new changes. For now, the anticipation for GT5 will be about as large as the anticipation for GT4. Maybe more so with GT5.

You know what I noticed? In that photo inside the Audi R8 when he's driving, the car is in parking gear(lever is at the top top), but he's driving.

I'm interested to see how much they charge in North America.

Thanks for the great news Amar (again!):)

I guess that with 40 cars only and 16 on track we're going to have a lot of "repeated" cars on races (as we can already see in the videos) but there's nothing wrong with racing another 15 F430s!!!

Some more details...

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Online Details
Producer Kazunori Yamauchi talks about online features for the upcoming racer.

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu magazine features an interview with Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi. Here he talks about some of the new features for the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

- PlayStation Home icon on the top menu screen: within the Home universe, there will be something like a "Gran Turismo World" galaxy. You can then enter the top menu of the game from Home, or vice-versa by selecting the respective icons.

- My Page: When the game starts, a My Page screen will also appear. In the final version, Yamauchi hopes to include a friends list as well. There will be several background images for the My Page screen such as Tokyo and other cities, but will also include sceneries of both outdoors and indoors. There is also a weather forecast displayed so that other players will know which geographic location you are in and how the weather is there.

- Chat features: Prologue will include 2 online modes, one which includes the chat features and the other which excludes this feature.

- Number of cars and course selection: about 40 cars and 4 courses with 8 different layouts. There will also be new courses which was briefly shown in the E3 trailer.

- Prologue will not have cars and course downloadables.

- Prologue falls somewhere in between the GT and Arcade mode. Players can earn reward money from each race and purchase new cars. There will be normal cars and tuned cars, but players cannot tune their own cars in this version. The save data from Prologue (such as money earned and cars purchased) can be carried over to Gran Turismo 5.

- 16 cars during races for offline mode. This may drop to 12 cars in online mode.

- Game control features "Normal Mode" based on simulation engine and "Professional Mode" based on actual car behavior and physics.

- Yamauchi hopes to include B-spec mode but it is still not decided at this point.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is scheduled for an October release in Japan.

Unless PD repeat the trick they used with GT Concept in which a number of the AI cars were not cars the player could select; of course they were soon 'hacked' out and increased the number of drivable cars available.

A bit disapointed about the 12 cars online feature, i can't see that the figure will increase for GT5.

I would also prefere to have a single control mode instead of Normal and Professional. I like to think of GT as being a level playing field.

Some of the most recent pictures on the first page of this thread are incomplete when posted. I tried to see all of that picture of the Ferrari F430 in the paddock and the in-car view of the Motul Pitwork Z... and the pictures don't load completely. Is their site down? Does it take a while to load the big versions of those pictures? I'm basically having to zoom in with Opera to see the pictures on the site in which the most recent pictures came from.

Still amazing pictures, nonetheless. Just wish I could find some better-quality full pictures of the ones at < http://response.jp/issue/2007/0723/article97205_1.html >.

I can live with 12 cars for online mode, at least more than 8 on Toca3 for PS2. 8 players are already plenty of fun for me :D

There will also be new courses which was briefly shown in the E3 trailer
From E3 trailer, we saw a night course, a path surrounded by trees, Suzuka and a tunnel (Grand Valley Speedway?), as well as London. We alread know Suzuka will be in GT5P, but the other locations seems very tempting.

I don't understand why they want to implement weather information to the game. It can be useful for yourself to know the weather, but other people's weather I would care none! If you talk about how it affects in-game weather or time of the day, I would say it is wonderful addition. Otherwise, it is useless in my opinion.

About Real Time HDR, I thought GTHD got it already! Unless they are not real time

BTW ... thanks for the update Amar 👍

the path surrounded by trees was most likely trail mountain, deep forest or a new course. and the tunnel was definately grand valley.

Any word on whether headlights will actually project light in GT5? Everything else looks freakin' amazing right now.

-> Did someone forgot Sarthe? It was featured back when PD debuted the Audi's both mk.2 TT 3.2 and the R8.

Every time I look on GTplanet there are some news about Gran turismo! That's great! I think it is good for us that the news are coming bit by bit every day. Thats how we can wait until October easier.

Cool, In car view! Cool, Ferrari! Cool, 16 cars on the track at once! Better get to the toilet quick, I'm gonna pee my self with excitment...

P.S: Woops, to late! :guilty:

P.S.S: Someone get a mop!

Though that cockpit view looks stunning IMHO, I hope that picture is somewhat 'chopped' in size...and that the actual in-game view will show the left-side mirror in full view, so if/when someone tries to pass you from the left, you can see it in the mirror first, without and/or before needing to turn and actually "look"...

Not that the in-car view isn't cool, but...

if you're using a wheel in GT, does it make any sense to have a virtual driver's hands & the wheel shown on-screen? :odd:

Yes. it probably will be optional like anything else.
Its called ergonomy, sub-item adaptability

F1:CE has it and it isn't a distraction. You aren't looking at the wheel and hands anyway.

Besides, an empty steering column would look silly.

Thanks to folks providing the nice updates.
Very nice in car view. Also nice to hear about the seperate modes.
Normal mode for those that want to race without getting to in depth or more likely for beginners and Professional mode for us folk who are more than ready for the more realistic (hopefully)physics mode.
Still hoping that 16 goes to at lest 20 by final GT5 release day.
To bad about you guys and gals maybe only getting 12 instead of 16, hopefully the final product will increase.
Also to bad about no tuning for GT5: Prolouge tho as that's part of multiplayer racing.
The weather thing just seems odd to me, unless it affects in game, why bother?
Like another poster mentioned, i ope they allow for the in game wheel and hands to be aligned up with the DFP and G25, or a turn off option.
I also like that the money and cars you earn on Prolouge will transfer to the final game.
Keep up the good work and thx again for the info hunting.

It should be lighter period, but that looks to me like a photo of the screen, not a screen capture. So we'll have to wait for a better shot to know if it's just too dark or if that's just a bad picture.

I tnink it's more the arms/hands than the wheel that I'm concerned about. I haven't played them in a while, but I seem to remember that in Colin 5 & Rallisport Challenge 2 the in-car view showed the top of the wheel only?

I know everyone seems to be very excited about the in-car view business, I'm just wondering if that will be the view most people wind up using...

It'll certainly be the view I'll be using. I use it nearly all the time in games where it's availablle.
