Mine, inspired when I saw another member had the same thing and I thought "I've got that desk, I'll use it!"

100_1688.jpg

So, $15 for the desk around 6 years ago, $50 for the DFP, $8 for the chair 10+ years ago, and $.20 for the tape and paper, computer and monitor were gifts.

From,
Chris.

That desk looks perfect, do you mind providing a link from where you got it. Thanks:tup:

How's it going everyone! I've been on this site for a few months now and think it's great, so I finally decided to become a member.

Anyway I'll get on with the topic now. This thread inspired me to design my own little 'cockpit', so I did just that and got dad to help me build this frame for my G25...

This whole set up cost me a total of zero dollars (we already had the wood). So yeah, I'll see you guys around!

:) Aussie

TV is a 40" Bravia capable of 1080i and thats GT5: Prologue on screen, picture quality is quite poor cos it was taken on my Sony Ericsson W800i

Nice setup, looks like it wouldn't wobble as much as mine (about 1/2 - 1 inch when really turning)

Chris.

Hi GTP folk!

This is my first post here on the forum, although I have been following the news on this site for a few years. I've got to say it's a great site/forum. I've also seen a lot of great cockpits in this section of the forum and thought to myself: I'm going to build one myself too and then off course share it with you.

I already had a bucket seat and a DFP for GT4 and raced with that setup since GT4 launched. With the ps3 and our new Bravia Full HD display being in the living room, I moved my racing setup to there as well. Last june I bought a G25 and my old setup was clearly not suitable anymore for racing from the couch. The G25 + shifter were too wide for the table I used, and the table was a little bit too low and the pedal box kept sliding.

So I set myself on designing a new table stand. I thought about what features my new stand should have and how it could be realised. First it had to be versatile, so it could be used in the living room in front of the couch as well as in the attic with my bucket seat. Second I wanted it to be adjustable. Since I started my Mechanical engineering bachelor this year I had acces to SolidWorks CAD software so I made a few designs with that program.

So I came up with this:

[1]

[2]

[3]

[1] is the stand that will stand in front of the couch and can be used with [2] to create [3] together with the bucket seat I already have. What makes this design special imho is that the position of the wheel and pedals in relation to the bucket seat/couch is fully adjustable in terms of angle of the wheel, vertical position and horizontal position. That is done by multiple holes in the side panels.

I plan to give you the drawings, so you can build this stand as well if you like. I just dont know how to attach a pdf file to this post. I allready built it, so pictures of the building process and the final product will follow soon as well.

UPDATE 1

Here are some pictures of the building process and the final product.

And I attached a pdf file with the drawings as promised. Keep in mind that all the dimensions are in millimeters.

Cheers,
Bart

Hi there!! I did a few modifications on my racing sim last july when I was at home! I have added higher legs for the seat. I have also get the wheel higher, to stay at the best position for me. I bought a very cheap 2.1 sorround system, just to connect the subwoofer and feel the bass under my seat. These photos are with a new hp 22" monitor with hdmi input and with the old school 14" monitor with rca(yellow) video input. I have done a video too!! See you guys! I'm not going to drive GT5 untill the second part of september due to a very important and last exam of the university but we'd race on circuits next month!! Have a great time!

See U!!

Here's my "setup" for right now. It works OK, but I'm planning on building a real cockpit soon. (Yeah, I know my room's not exactly what you'd call "clean".)

A newbie and have been surfing this thread specifically to give me an inspiration and FOUND so many ideas that just blew my mind away.

As an engineer, my descipline is built it perfect otherwise 4get it. Guess w/c route I am at right now, the 4get route due to 3 babies at home and a wifey I just dont have time. However since I have the GT5 and the G25wheels, I decided to please my needs w/o doing any work. Initially, I was gonna full blown cockpit with transducers/ buttkicker/ reverse (hang the pedal downward for actual real life pivot point)...etc.. but like I said NO TIME with 4month old, 2year old, and 3.7 yr old around while I fabricating this so I re-applied this "kneeling chair for ergo purpose from my office." Repositioned the frames and bolts...etc to suit me. To those who have similar situation, this can be an alternative for a quick way to have stand. I'll keep you posted once I decided to jump on a bandwagon like most of the artists in this forum...

$0 for the chair
<2 hr for the configuration.

CHEERS to you all.👍

Since I only have the 360 steering wheel now when I play on the PS3 it serves as a handy snack bar!

might as well add to this thread :) i already put pics of my new setup on another thread but ill put some here too. i used a laptop table from walgreens and welded it at the right angle and height for driving and then put some paint on to match the room. the total cost was 28 dollars. 19.99 for the table and 4 dollars for each can of paint (2 colors= 2 cans :P) works perfectly except the thing slides around slightly. the wheels lock but they dont stop it during hard races.

hey everyone. it is great to see that this thread was started in 2005 and still going strong! it was very helpful when i decided to build my own driving cockpit. i designed it on sketchup, file can be found here. i built the actual product at school as a my major project so i didn't have to pay for the materials :P

@nic92: ithink that metal paddle idea is brilliant!!! im gonna do the exact same thing. thanks for the idea :P did you have to actually take the wheel off???

thanks!
i actually got a picture showing the G25 and traced the paddles off of that to get the approximate size and shape. I then just cut out the shape out of sheet aluminum, with a pop out part in the middle to 'push' the shifter button. the end i just bent to 90 degrees. No you do not have to take the wheel off, I just used a hose clamp to attach the two to the wheel flat part of the wheel.
One tip though, if you do it, use >1mm sheet as i find mine bend a bit when you pull on them.:)

And finally, the cockpit I've been wanting to build for a while now. Excuse the somewhat shoddy build quality of it, but I don't care. Finally, something I can say I built myself. (Excuse the crappy pic quality.)

All the "features" (seat, wheel, and pedals) in one picture.

I mildly screwed up the wheel-seat measurement, so I had to improvise...
Picture7.jpg

(I can use the table that the steering wheel was actually supposed to go on for my laptop... PC games FTW!)

And finally, me actually driving in the thing.
Picture9.jpg

Total cost wasn't bad... $80 for the seat, and the metal (and metallic silver paint) I got for free as a repayment for my metal shop teacher's screwups. And hey, who can argue with free stuff?

Heres my fully enclosed cockpit. :sly: All for free aswell. All I used were my bed sheets, a couple of chairs to sit on an support the sheets, some storage tubs, a bike stand, and my bedside table. Its pretty fun inside, but does get kinda hot. I dont mind it though. Ive got my old DFP and my new G25 both in there, so 2 player's are possible.

Here are some pics:

^^mmmmm Fun^^ (Me on the G25 lil' tim tam on the DFP)

(This is not the right thread to be asking this) I tried out my cousins G25 the other day and it was almost silent, and was really smooth. However mine is quite loud and feels more grindy. Anyone know whats happening?

Please reply and tell me what you think.👍

I finally got a dfp and was wondering if anyone could post a setup for under $50 that can easily be moved around the house please?

Hey guys,

Temporary set-up:

Using the living room coffee table, and the kid's puff. Cost: 0
EDIT: The table was some €25 or so, and the seat as well. So buying it on purpose would amount to about €50.

My plan is to, based on this table, build a foldable "brick". The sides will be covered and the folding part will be the seat. That would then slide and fit inside it. This way it will always be disguised as "normal furniture". That will cost some money (not much I expect) but it will be mostly handy work. But I like building stuff :)

:) You have the same laptop as I do.
Corporate assigned. Have a mini9 under testing (with linux) that will be a much better side kick in the future ;)

Good setup, the seat looks very comfy. :sly:
Thanks. But the foam runs to the sides and back. By lap 2, I'm practically sitting on the floor and have to look over the wheel to see the dash. Also my wrists get in a bad angle. Thus the pillow :)

Not perfect but I thought I'd share this as it is a pretty easy way to do a couple hours racing. At least until a better solution comes your way.

May depend on definition of cheap but have just updated my hyperdrive frame with autotecnica racing seat to go with new DFGT.
