Sure :)

The steering platform is hinged off on a 2” pvc ‘T’ joint with a 3/8’s, 8” long bolt, washers and a wing nut. The ‘T’ joint has pvc caps glued on both ends that I drilled on center for the bolt to go through the platform and joint. Mind you all these pvc pieces were found at the hardware store. On front of the platform you can see a ‘U’ bolt that is long enough to go thru the platform above and tightened with 2 wing nuts. I found scavenged rubber spacers to place between the frame and the platform but another set of nut’s and washers can be place there to adjust for tilt. So, all together it’s a matter of loosening the 8” bolt/wing nut and adjusting the 2 wing nuts/nuts to angle. The little flex I mentioned earlier about is really unnoticeable while gaming. It's just that I refrain from leaning on the wheel or the mount while climbing in or out of the cockpit as you would with a regular vehicle.

The shifter is basically ½” MDF wood tightened onto the pvc frame with 3/8’s, 2 ¼” wide automotive exhaust ‘U’ bolts that are tightened with wing nuts. The mount where the shifter sits on is screwed/glued at a right angle onto the MDF wood, see pictures. So, it’s a matter of loosening up the 4 wing nuts on the ‘U’ bolts and sliding the mount up or down for adjustment.
Thanks for replying and posting the close-up shots. That's a very ingenious design if I have to repeat myself. I didn't see the T-joint on the lateral bar before that held the wheel platform; that part totally slipped my mind when trying to recreate what you did in my head. How much time do you think you spent on this altogether?

Now if only there's a way it could fold away for easy storage...

Here's my setup, I made this by taking a jigsaw to an old computer desk that I had laying around, it only took me 2 days to make,+2-3 hrs of modifications to fit a recently acquired G25. The seat is from a 85 Toyota Corolla (but that doesn't seem to effect it at all ...hahaha)...:sly:And as you can see it sits dominantly in the middle of my lounge room among the leather lounge suite and rarely gets moved as it is used more than the chairs them selves....

Nice setup mate. My setup is in a seperate spare room, so there's no fighting over TV's etc.

Theres no fighting over TV's here, As Dad (me) gets right of way so to speak. My 2 teenage boys have there own area down stairs thankfully...:sly:

I'm like the your teenage boys, my own little space to play GT5P. Also, great because no one bothers me and you can turn the sound up loud! Mum and Dad get the Plasma.

Looks very nice, a1PAPAOSA. I like the racing stickers too.

Im building myself a setup too, but its not finished yet. It should be looking like this.

Love the CAD pics PASM89, I had similar problems with fitting my G25 to the original setup and still have not modified it to suit as yet. And I also had the pedal assembly pushing (after having to cut through the front of my setup to fit it),And I'm thinking it was just due to the increased braking pressure required on the G25 being a little more realistic. So There was a few more mods since this pic...:sly:

Posted this on the G25 cockpit thread and figured I would put it here as well. This is the beginning phase of my setup. I have a Driving Force GT mounted to it at the moment, but my G25 is in the mail and I am super stoked to get it mounted up. I need suggestions on how to add a shifter stand to this though. Any ideas? Comments/suggestions on the overall design, etc? Any feedback is appreciated.

Setup is a PS3 via HDMI to a 1080p 52" Samsung LCD with a Yamaha 5.1 surround sound system around the room.

It would be a lot easier if you upload the pics to a site like imageshack, that way we don't have to DL anything to see them.

Well, he posted all the info and pics here back on page 63 also. That forum simul8r linked to required registration before you can look at the pics. Think it's the same info on page 63 though.

I do like simul8r's build a lot. Though I think I might try and come up with something cheaper :P - Did all those PVCs really cost 60 bucks? Seems like a lot for PVC pipes but then again I've never bought any.

I need something that is comfortable, similar to a race car cockpit (just angles and height and depth etc. so the chair/pedals are in the correct positions (looked like simul8r got it right there). Most importantly though I need something that I can set up, take down, and store easily. Something that looks better than a bunch of two by fours nailed together.

What I have in mind is something that folds out. The same idea as those golf bags that have the two kick pegs fold out when you need to leave your bag out somewhere. I probably won't be able to come up with that kinda thing though since I'm no builder. The closest thing available to what I have in mind is the RennSport Wheel Stand but I'm not interested due to the high price tag and odd setup (pedals seem quite close to the wheel). Doesn't give that race-car type seating/pedals setup.

I dunno what I'll end up with, but it probably won't be satisfying :P - I don't even know if my wires can reach my PS2 in it's new location, and if it does reach I'll probably be pretty close to the TV, which is huge. Damn wires are a pain in the arse. Ah well, I guess a wireless wheel wouldn't be as responsive.

Heres my fully enclosed cockpit. :sly: All for free aswell. All I used were my bed sheets, a couple of chairs to sit on an support the sheets, some storage tubs, a bike stand, and my bedside table. Its pretty fun inside, but does get kinda hot. I dont mind it though. Ive got my old DFP and my new G25 both in there, so 2 player's are possible.

Here are some pics:

^^mmmmm Fun^^ (Me on the G25 lil' tim tam on the DFP)

(This is not the right thread to be asking this) I tried out my cousins G25 the other day and it was almost silent, and was really smooth. However mine is quite loud and feels more grindy. Anyone know whats happening?

Please reply and tell me what you think.👍

I love the creativity with this post. Thats just awesome and must be really fun! 👍

Hi all,

Firstly, some great cockpits in here...

I've built a cheap cockpit, main concerns for me or should I say wife was that it had to be removed from the living room when not in use, so it had to be light weight so I could carry it to the shed.

At this stage it's not complete yet, need to make the pedals adjustable and also want to tilt the steering platform. Once it's all setup perfectly it'll get a lick of paint...

Costs incurred: £20 for the MDF and about 2 afternoons of labour.

Anyway go easy on me...

As you can see no dedicated seat, though I usualy use the red chair (see below), very comfortable...

Of course the son won't leave it alone, if it's setup

The entertainment system it's usually placed in front of...

hey everyone. it is great to see that this thread was started in 2005 and still going strong! it was very helpful when i decided to build my own driving cockpit. i designed it on sketchup, file can be found here. i built the actual product at school as a my major project so i didn't have to pay for the materials :P

I just got my DFGT and am thinking about doing the same thing(F1 style paddles) to my wheel. I am also interested in how you made metal peddles. Did you just screw/rivet some plate to the existing peddles? I want to do this as well but with checkerplate(the same stuff as you have for your 'foot rest'.
Thanks.

no he just bolted the cut out to the wheel and made a bit that pushes the button in when the paddle gets pulled. if you dont understand what i trying to say then look at the paddle on the right, it is just there and the little metal thing that comes out pushes the paddle in.

He was talking about the pedals. ;)

Yeah I already understand the concept of the F1 paddles and how he hoseclamped them to his wheel; but I want to know how he made Metal Peddles(Brake/Accelerator)?
Does anybody else thing I should do this or would it be better to have your feet sliding a little on the peddles?
Thanks.

That is why you should spell it right. :P

Peddle is to sell something, and looks at a glance like paddles. ;)

A pedal is what you would drive with.

Sorry, My mistake. I was looking at my spelling of pedal at the time of writing the initial post and thought something looked wrong. Now I know it was. :)

GTP, I give you the most rubbish one yet

I call it... the Boxcar! Because it is, literally, a box. And yes, I know, my room... I am a filth wizard.

It's literally just the end of an old TV cabinet we had. It was lying outside for a while, in the elements... eventually, I needed a driving rig, so I hacksawed to end off to create a kind of box with no front or back. Add to this my little wicker stool, and it's a winner

Believe it or not, the driving position is just fantastic. It's perfect. Although I do get backache when I drive endurance sometimes. But overall, it's great.

I plan on getting a G25 soon, and adding a handbrake to it... and that will all be painted, as well as the existing box sanded and shaped, so it'll look pro. It'll still be cheap... about £6 for a couple of cans of black :sly:

Very simple EJRocky, but put it this way, any cockpit is better than sitting a DFP on your lap. :) I am using something very similar to this at the moment because i'm waiting for my dad to get a welder so I can make a proper cockpit. All mine is at the moment is a small table with my DFGT attched and I sit on a small chair which is only 2-3 inches off the ground. my pedals are just sitting on the carpet. :)

Yeah, tell me about it. I wouldn't be able to stand having the wheel on my lap...!

Not only is mine simple, but compact... I store it in my wardrobe. I would have a full setup, with car seat and everything, but I just don't have the space.

Stupid big sister, getting the bigger room...
