That is one crazy way to use a pad guy. Is this the only perceived weired thing you do concerning your hands? No I shudder to think LOL
A good online FPS should engage you with it's enviroment, matches should be equaly with multiple strategic options available at all times. Aprogresional system that rewards players for acheivment. Characters should behave realisticly to increase the players imersion, weapons should never give an unfair advantage but be individual enough to open tactical options. controls should feel intuative, sound and graphics should appear and sound belivable as should the physics. Conectivity should be lag free with good coms and a good spread of game modes.
Everything else realy is bells and whistles which adds individuality and personal preferance dictates which bells and whistles you prefare. As far as KZ2 goes the basics of a good FPS are there, controls are different from the previous favourite FPS title and some have issues with this I think though the biggest issue is there is no auto aim making your control needing to be more precise, and exadurating the system to give more weight to movement for most this isn't an issue though.
Personaly what makes KZ2 the best FPS on the PS3 is simply the fact it rewards you and encourages you to play as a team. The map desighn practicly forces you to play strategicaly and thats it, as simple as it sounds thats the one factor that makes the title stand out for me.

The second point is that at short to medium range three shots will drop most character classes in the multi-player, its only at the longer ranges that this does not always apply. However I believe that Hereward is able to vouch for me taking a guy down at a far distance with a single burst in the matches yesterday (and I certain saw him do the same at least once).

Yeah on the desert level we were on the upper level of the ISA spawn point as suport to the guys in the building oposite we were both using ISA standard rifles and took a few UKOG guys who were sniping from the other side of the gorge some 300feet away, these were single shot headshots, very satisfieing

It's not just the map design, it's the whole design. Being able to divide a team into squads, different roles (medic, engineer), the slower pace of movement (you need to think if it's a good idea before running across an open space), etc. Teamplay in the lower ranks is (as to be expected) somewhat absent, but at the higher ranks teamplay is definitely there. I used to play Battlefield 2 a lot on pc and KZ2 immediately reminded of it. The ability to place deployables (turrets) and mission style reminds me a lot of ET:QW (a VERY underrated game on both PC and PS3 IMO; one of the greatest teambased FPS games I have ever played, too bad no one plays it on PS3).

The only thing I would like to see added is some larger maps with vehicles in it (like ETQW or BF2).

After playing for a couple of days, I have realized two things.

1) No shooter surpasses this game in the graphics department.

2) I hate the level with the flying gun/missile thing.

2) I hate the level with the flying gun/missile thing.

I found that one of the easiest parts.

Drop down either side where you will find a tunnel under where you start. Then when it is close to the pylons shoot the pylon with your pistol to trap it there and then change to rocket launcher and hit it. After a couple of times it will be gone.

Grim 👍

2) I hate the level with the flying gun/missile thing.

yeah i found that hard too, until i found if you stay really close to the wall in the tunnel it cant shoot you, and you can hit it twice with the rocket launcher for each time you trap it in the electricity. Four hits and its gone

Are you sure you meant to say realistic, because it sure sounds like you are talking arcade... as realistically, real world soldiers in real world fire fights behave VERY differently than any FPS game, including COD4/5 and have often survived headshots... not to mention the fact that KZ2 is science fiction and doing battle with an alien race, and using fictional armor protection. These are games, designed to entertain... with enough realism perceived or otherwise, to add to the tension.

I'm in no doubt that in the real world soldiers have survived headshots. What they have not done, is taken a headshot without even flinching, and shot back, killing you!

For the average gamer, FPSs may entertain, but for some (myself included), they are something more, a lot more. Why do you think stats like K/D ratio, or headsohts are so important?

I place a lot of emphasis on how I kill a guy. Thats not saying I'm the best, but I like to think that if I shoot a guy in a critical body part, they are going to drop This is why I only play hardcore mode on COD4, or similar modes on other games.

I see a pattern developing here. ;)

Do you doubt what I am saying? See below. ;)

tl;dr magburner, post a picture.

 I didn't think that you would understand my description, I will get some pictures posted asap. 👍

The only point that really stands up is that of a lack of prone stance, however using this as a point of realism for COD over KZ2 does have its own issues. For a start to be realistic COD would have to massively increase the amount of time it would take a combat equipped soldier to get from prone to a position to be able to move again.

I agree with you on this one, the time taken to get up and down should be significantly greater! At times, I use prone as an exploit in COD4, because you can go from standing up to prone and keep firing (and your shots get more accurate as you do so!). That IS unrealistic, but lying on the floor and getting the benefits of increased accuracy and better cover is not.

I am guessing here that you are basing this on the demo rather than the full game, as two of these three points do not apply in the multi-player.

Well, until I played the demo, I was all set to buy the game! I can live with all the other things I grumbled about, but until I can remap the buttons, I will not buy the game, simple as that! Its ridiculous to think that Guerilla didn't even contemplate that gamers might not like the way the buttons were setup. If you give me the choice of what I can do, then I will do it. If I'm forced to do it in a way I do not like, then I won't!

I think too many people are going to try and compare this game to the CoD series. CoD is certainly the number 1 multiplayer FPS but Killzone 2 is an entirely different game. It's definitely less run and gun, you have to think a bit more about what you're doing and you can't just run out and pop someone in the face just because you're running quickly.

Its only natural. If the games had been released the other way around (ie. KZ2 coming out before COD4), I'm sure there would of been very similar comparisons.

I like the tactical edge, and the increased levels of teamwork that people are talking about, and it is also nice to hear that running a nd gunning is harder.

Give me custom remapping of the buttons, and I'm there, thats all it takes! Maybe, I should put a petition up on the Guerilla website! 💡

EDIT: Just posted a friendly petition on the KZ2 website. I was impressed with the stats pages there too. It seems as if they are linked to your Playstation account somehow (I had to log in with my PSN account). Whilst I was there, I did notice that there was an offical post regarding 'controller issues'. It didn't give details, but there had been some complaints regarding it. So lets hope custom remapping is on the way! I almost want to go and buy the game now! 👍

I just shot the electricity pylons with the rocket launcher, then shot the robot with the rocket launcher too and it went down instantly! I found it very easy but that was only because I accidentally got it caught in the electrical charge.

When online, how do I revive somebody who has been shot down?
You need the medic badge and activate it in the weapon selection screen. Press left on the d-pad to whip out your defibrillator (I use Alternative 2 settings, may be a different key with another setup), aim at the person to revive and press fire.

"It feels entriely natural to me, and I even use my thumbs on that pad as the analogue sticks are placed in the correct position that feels comfortable and easy to use, unlike the PS3 pad, with its tired and clunky configuration."

I really never understood this comment but I have heard it many times. If one of the 360 analog sticks is in the correct spot doesn't that make the other analog stick in the wrong spot? Why is an asymmetric design better? I personally don't like the position of the 360s left analog stick. It is too adducted. I much prefer the more apposed position of the ps3 controller.

Once you have obtained medic status, you need to make sure you are in your medic suit. You do this at the start before enterinng tha game on the screen that has the map on. Press the R1 L1 buttons that move between tabs and your character comes up. Swap to medic. In game you press the left direction button to select your medi tool, alls you do is point at the injured and shoot.

Grim 👍

Its only the left stick I have problems with. I could use the right analogue stick easy enough if the left stick was where the D-pad was. With the left stick in the position it is in now, up for me is 45 degree to the right, which of course is not actually up but up-forward!

This could be solved easily enough though, if there was an option in game to to alter the geometry of the sticks. Alas, there isn't and most game developers give little or no thought whatsoever to gaming ergonomics.

KZ2 isn't the first PS3 game I have snubbed because of a lousy configuration. It might be the most high profile, but not the first (and I doubt the last). Skate was one, Quake Wars was another, and more recently, the new Resident Evil (absolutely shocking controls!!!). The annoying thing is that for the most part I loved every one of those games, except for the way the controls were mapped!

[Edit:]
Excuse the village idiot - Do NOT start the game with the controller assigned as #2, then re-assign in-game.. I suck - sorry..

I just started on the game last night after an important soccer match, so it's all new to me.. However, I seem to fail to turn the wheel that opens the Flood Gate in the beginning of the game..

I grasp the concept of tilting the controller clockwise, holding R1+L1 (I can see the hands grabbing the wheel) and the turning counter clockwise part... It's just that nothing happens.. I use the same controller to play Flower, so I'm fairly sure the Sixaxis part of the controller works...

Haven't been able to find anything on Google :-/

You have to do it more than once...
If you're already doing it more than once and it's still not working then I have no idea, it always works for me.

No no... As soon as I started the game with the controller assigned as #1, it worked flawlessly and I got on - Unfortunately, now the EO is home, and KZ2 on the TV is a no no - At least until she starts napping on the couch ;-)

Good news of sorts - my game left Orlando this morning, so i might have it as soon as tomorrow. :)

Thanks. I figured out I needed to level up to get the medic option. I now have the bot placement guy, too.

I'm not having much fun with this game online. I aim, shoot and the guy never goes down. I hit a guy five times with the shotgun and he turns around and shoots me dead with a small burst of ammo. Is there body armor in this game? I swear some of these guys are just bulletproof.

I think the controls are horrible. The character either moves too slow or too fast. I cannot seem to get the hang of it. Too frustrating to play online, so I think I'm done.

I was looking at my SP stat- 35% into the game and it has so far taken me close to 10 hrs. My excuse is that I'm spending half the time looking at the environments. After being impressed by the demo, I'm floored by the details in the game's graphics. I managed to capture some screenshots from the game:

does any one have a definitive answer to what the scoreboard icons in multiplayer mean, browsing other forums everyone seems to have their own opinions on them

@myke6699: those look even better than I've seen, what TV/capture card do you have?

That first shot is just

I finished the single player campaign in 7hr 23m, on regular difficulty. Going to be doing it at least a few more times though :mischievous:

Nice shots mate, you tend to miss the detail when your running around and being shot at LOL
Solid Lifters, perserverance mate, there are certain classes with heavy armour but if you allways shoot at head hight you shouldn't have a problem! hold out till you get online with the clan (I sent you an invite last night) when your working as a team things become much easier and it gives you time to learn the game plus teaam mates can see where your going wrong and point you in the right direction.
I had a quick go last night and nabed a downed sniper rifle for the first time, the scope has 2X and 6X zoom, but I could only use 2X which confused me for a bit, I'm thinking you need to actualy be a sniper class to use 6x zoom. still single shot kills were so easy with it as long as you could keep your distance from the enemy.

Played as medic yesterday in some very intense fights. I have the healing ability now which allows me to drop healthpacks (or toss them onto hurt players). Very fun to play, but devastating for your kill-death-ratio. ;)

Haven't played MP yet, but do you mean this stuff?

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6205187/p-13.html

No I mean when your playing online and you press select and look at the scores, theres deaths, kills, and then a few others i don't know, assists? game objectives? I've only played online once and had no idea what any of it meant

Although, the link you did post is very very helpful, cheers 👍

You need to unlock the higher zoom, I believe that you get it when you get 8 sniper ribbons (10 sniper rifle kills in a match).
