I'm thinking of picking up a second hand one for whenever F1 09 comes out. The G25 is a blast but I would I like a smaller wheel for my F1 games.

Quick question, do you bang the rev limiter a little before upshifting or not Gyles? I do and I think it gives you a couple of tenths per lap although I'm not sure.

Yeah I would also love to get a DFP, it's an awesome wheel, I wouldn't want to spend more than £45 though.

I've experimented a little by using the cockpit view and concentrating on the speed dial and i've noticed that certainly with some gears if you shift up it is not seamless and you actually lose speed during the gear-shift. Banging the revs seems to hold it at the speed and then once you shift it resumes building speed, if that makes any sense. Also i've definitely noticed when you bang the revs that once you do up-shift, the engine is already singing higher than it would have done without, though whether this means overall that you are going faster I'm still not 100% sure.
 
What a race, I've had to work all week and didn't get a single lap in till today. I ran 20 laps right before the race lol. I qualified 9th, which was exactly what I expected, didn't even get rolling when the lights went out. I waited for the massacre in turn one. Passed two cars :) (In the points now) waited 2 more turns, and two more out. :) Was trying not to pass ranhammer at the chicane but I had such a run that I could stop and we met. :( I pulled over and waited for him to go back by and now I'm back in 10th Oh well. I continued to improve lap after lap catching ranhammer, then all of a sudden Ran went into a fit of rage and began to smash his car into the turn two wall over and over again. It was like a child slamming a f1 car into the wall multiple times. I passed him and then sumpington did something which allowed me to pass him.

My last stop came up, and I came out right beside the duck. (yes he quacks during the race too) I slowed to let him by and managed to stay in front of sump until the end of the race to claim 8th. I was proud of myself :)

Special thanks to sumpington for racing me extremely clean. Never once did he bump me. I really thought I was just holding you up, but I really wanted that last point :D
 
Well, the T1 pile up happened again, but not as bad as I imagined. I was under the impression for while that my points lead is gone until I saw people dropping like flies. Was a able to catch up to lofasz alot of times and in the pits, he kept beating me. I also had Hemi right behind and the gap I had seesawed with him gaining then losing time on me. After the second pitstop, lofasz slowed consideribly(not sure if it was intended and if it was, thank you) and let me by and at the point, I could relax abit knowing I've minimized the damage to my point lead. Here's the results:

🤬 me... Jeez of cheese... First off, if I wrecked ya 13dog or anyone for that matter, I apologize right off the bat... Now.. as for my car and why the hell it was going extremely crazy.. well my internet disconnected during the race... and all hell broke loose... which I have nothing other than this to say.... 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Anyway I would of had a great run if that didn't happen.... but it *expletive cannot be said on a family site with ing at the end* did. 🤬 me.

Well I had a good start on the inside of Mofongo holding the inside line to turn 1. Held a tight line and exited the corner with the lead while I heard the melee behind me. Then FormulaNone and I had a difference of opinion on the braking point for turn 5 as he took off my rear suspension :indiff: and my race went down hill from there :grumpy: but it could have been worse as I made several mistakes trying to make up for an error not of my own doing :dunce: I managed to pass a few as they made mistakes or on pit strategy :sly: I believe I could have got to P2 from my pit strategy had I not caught too much of the curb on the chicane resulting in an 8 second penalty and exiting turn 13 I hit a tire from ??? who had hit the wall causing me to spin into the pit lane. I managed to keep the car from going into the pits but strangely I had two worn tires and two new tires...........on opposite corners :odd: I brought the BMW Sauber home in P4 👍 On to Monza where mistakes cost you plenty :D

No No No No No, I hit you. You didn't do anything wrong, I tried to go two wide on a chicane with one line. It was all my fault.
 
Good race, I lost a rear tire on L1 when Mofongo got into the back of me (I Think). Had some good racing with Thirteendog the 2nd half of the race 👍

FormulaNone had the fastest lap at 1:14.1xx. I missed getting a pic b/c my camera freaked out.
 
Not a bad race for me. Had a couple of bad crashes, but that was to be expected from a guy who props up the bottom of the table! 👍

My only grievance this time was that I was kicked out of qualification, and end up late joining at the back of the grid and way off the pace! :lol: Oh well, onto the next round! 👍
 
Did some rough laps today with the wheel. Was doing consistent 1'30s, with a couple of 29s. Looking back at last season, fishfash was doing 26s. He was roughyl 3.5 secs a lap quicker than me at Budapest. I wasn't happy with my laps either. Reckon I can do 1'28s. This was offline too, which is slower than online.

I did a few practice laps and my best was a 1:26.8 but that was with draft down the back straight. Still, i've yet to nail my brake and turn in points and I think I can hit consistent 1:26's with practice. All about practice and pushing the envelope 👍

Well i've done a bit more practice and managed a 1:26.7 without draft on a regular lap, and a 1:26.4 on an outlap. I think my thoughts of getting a consistent 1:26's is maybe a bit far fetched but maybe consistent low 1:27's is a possibility.

Then again this might all count for nothing if Ardius decides to play around with the weather. Seriously though, it wouldn't rain in Istanbul :)

At Istanbul 1:25's-1:26's will be the way to go, no practice for me though I will just switch the PS3 on next Sunday, that's providing if I can be asked to swap wheels. Currently I am using a Logitech DriveFX wheel for the 360, this wheel is shockingly bad compared to the G25, in fact it is rubbish. :crazy: It's a real pain, as I have to keep swapping wheels between the PS3 and 360.

Most of my time is spent on the 360 at the moment. Really getting into Race Pro, this game is a master piece. I played for a good 4 hours on Sunday, and then switched to GT5P immediately afterwards and I was able to beat my best time with over 1.5 seconds just after a few laps in one of the events. 👍

Race pro rocks! I am going to try to start a F3000 league sometime this summer ( Got a WTCC league starting up soon as well on a different board that runs for 8 or 9 weeks). They are recruiting drivers now, but it's 6pm CST if anyone is interested.

We all know the game is laggy and passing is difficult but please remember to be as 'courteous' as possible during the race, especially in the first few laps. After reports of some incidents during the race, I think it would be in the best interest of everyone to remind themselves of this.

There are varying skill levels and some people using pads, some wheels, so everyone is going to have different braking points/ lines etc. The race can't be won on the first lap, but you can ruin your race or a fellow competitors.

This is true, I was much, much faster than most of the drivers during the last race at Buda (1:14.7xx for Pole certifies it), but a little bump from behind on T1 put me in 4th; then another on T3 put me in 7th. It was impossible to pass, drivers went inside after missing the apex (after running wide on a corner.) On a close race, a driver should stay on the outside if he/she runs wide. If not, contact is unavoidable.

yeah It's also hard to leave room during complex sections of the track, so it may suck, but it may be wise to pass on the next open section or straight.
 
Well i took the chance and qualified last night, and ended up 3rd i think. At the start of the race i got a good launch off the line and passed MOFO to the outside just before turn 1 but decided to use the runoff area just in case of trouble to my inside. As i was easing back on the track i saw LOFASZ to my right then looked up ahead and saw 2 cars on the right side of the track in front of LOFASZ crashing together and headed across the track right in front of me, and then looked at LOFASZ and saw i was going to make contact with him trying to miss the other 2 cars but i got off the gas just before i hit him, and we didn't just hit once but three times, but i waited untill we got separated before i got back in the gas and it worked out ok, but i was sweating it for a moment, stayed behind him for a couple of turns untill i saw an opening and took it to grab 3rd spot. That put me behind CAMikaze who was running a good race but was really holding me up bad. I got some good runs on him but backed off each time to avoid an accident, CAMikaze i think you are making the most improvement as a racer than anyone else in this tournament but when someone is up your tailpipe that hard its usually better to let them go and try to get them back later. I know when someone is racing me harder than i want or feel comfortable with i let them go and hope their speed will cause them to make a mistake and i can get them back. But you are by far the most improved racer. After i got by CAMikaze i noticed FormulaNone had built a nice lead, so i set off after him and was closing at a pretty good rate so i was thinking ok i can get him if i just be cool and not make a mistake, but he helped me out by crashing just before the beginning of the front straight, i managed to miss his car that was sitting in the middle of the track backwards. Once i got by him i had a relatively easy race, i had a nice lead and a clear track , so it was smooth QUACKIN after that i did see thirteendog coming out of tha pits so i gave him a couple of QUACKS as i went by. All in all i had a good race and now im only 1 point behind RC.
 
Wow, the wheel is worth it just for nailing Turn 8 with it!

It's fun isn't it? That said it's damn hard to get consistently right, and I think it's easier with a controller and automatic gears, but this is probably just because you're not going as fast through it. Still, you know you've done a pretty good job when you have to shift up to 7th as you're actually going through the last apex 👍
 
Consistent mid 29s on-line last night. Losing about a second through T1, the first corner is difficult to consistently nail, and I hate the tight right after the downhill apex left hander, before the double left. Not quite got the final corner too.
 
Can I make a suggestion regarding cars being lapped? I think the best thing to do is to come off the racing line and slow to let the other car past, that way it should definitely avoid any incidents which would adversely affect both drivers. In otherwords then I would like it if Ardius could put that as a rule in the first post that the faster car should always maintain the racing line and the lapped car should always move aside, that way it avoids any confusion. Believe it or not it was because of that sort of confusion that Gilles Villeneuve died.
 
I think most people come off the racing line and slow down.

Hmm, not enough in my experience in the last race. Bloody nightmare trying to get past Appie, It took 4 corners before I got past him even though I was sitting in his diffuser the whole time. In your case it was more a case of bad luck really as I emerged out of the pits directly behind you. If you notice this I think cars should really slow up on the next available straight, off the racing line, you won't lose that much time, maybe a second at most as we should be right on you anyway before we make the pass.
 
This complaint has come up before and like I said last time, backmarker blocking is a viable team tactic but it is appreciated if people move over.

However, with the online system as it is, with sometimes horrible lag and regular random accidents, I will alter this to a rule after consideration.

Announcement - NEW RULE ADDED:
Drivers are expected to allow faster cars past in the situations of being lapped, it is recommended that the slower car pick their place to allow the other driver past carefully, making sure its off the racing line and in a clearly visible place. As a general rule of thumb, the exits of corners onto long straights is a good place, allowing the driver behind plenty of time to realise what you are doing. Faster drivers must keep in mind this rule, as slower cars aren't always able to instantly move over at every corner safely.

Also keep in mind that the slower driver may not always realise they are being lapped, so I also ask everyone to not allow themselves to become too frustrated with being unable to pass and also for the slower drivers to keep a good track of their position and the position of the leading drivers.
