Something i just noticed, the front end is lower in the 3/4 pic then it is in the side pic. The fender is near flush in the 3/4 pic, but has a good inch atleast in the side picture.

Might as well contribute some more, these are from a gtg today.. :)

That is very close to E34 perfection 👍

I don't care for JDM.

It is what it is. I don't care what people do to their cars, but when theirs actions are a direct cause to the lack of new innovation and engineering applied to our cars, then it starts to get a bit annoying to say the least. Companies that have been around for a long time, started with the concept of bringing new, fresh ideas to the table are being killed off by blatant theives.

I should take the phrase "don't let others influence you" that you said. What if you don't have a choice because suddenly the product you wanted for your car is not available anymore because the company can't afford to produce it?

Opinions are opinions, but there's nothing "elitist" about disliking criminals and those who support them, especially when it affects you personally.

Most people can't afford to dish out $5,000 for a set of rims, so they would rather buy the knock offs. I see nothing wrong with it because people want a certain look but don't have the money, I can't fault them for that. Seriously I could careless where parts come from, CDaily said it best when he said he likes what he likes.

And you know as well as I do there will always be rims in the used market, if you want a style bad enough you can find them and have them restored if they are in poor condition.

I also fail to see how this affects you personally, do you make rims for a living or work for a rim company? If you do then yes I can see how it affects you but if you don't then I think you are overreacting to something that in the long run doesn't really matter.

I honestly don't like the way the import scene is going, no offence but cars like yours bore me to tears. It looks like a stock Civic that's been lowered and stickered (I know you don't really care for my car and you know what, I'm ok with that). I like things that make me go wow. Sure I can respect that you put a lot of work into your car and I'm sure you like it a lot, as you should. But it seems people who have the same taste as you have this elitist air about them and can't stand any form of modification to a car other than some rims. No this is not to start a mud slinging contest, just sharing an observation. Maybe I'm off but based on what I see hear that is what I pick up on.

Personally I can respect many different kinds of style when it comes to cars and I have a hard time understanding why people so fervently hate a certain style of vehicle. And that is where I stand on the issue.

In general the import "scene" is moving away from extraneous appendages and moving toward sport and racing modifications. This is the way it's been in Japan and Europe forever now, because in the rest of the world racing is a lifestyle, and even old ladies enjoy a big slide on the drift track or F1 cars screaming by. The sport tuning scene here in America has long been a tiny niche that only hardcore racers were a part of, but it's growing rapidly. Imagine what the autocross and road racing world will be like once all those ricers get their hands on a set of well-tuned shocks and tires that are so sticky they throw rocks at your head.

For us Japanese car drivers, our Holy Grail of parts is Japan. People in Japan have been tuning and racing these cars since day 1, and pretty much have it all down to a science. Their products have been designed on the race track and in the wind tunnel, and made of top-quality materials. It's sad to see people missing out on the passion put into these performance parts, the cars, the drivers, etc.

I learn about new old companies and parts all the time. There's some wicked hardware out there. Drives me nuts that people fawn over parts from companies that don't have any history, heritage, passion, innovation, and didn't even come up with it in the first place. Yes, a lot of them are expensive, and even the hardest core guys out there are guilty of cutting corners, but in most cases it seems you get what you pay for. You're not gonna go fast and be durable unless you've got high quality parts.

The other part of the equation is skill...

Anyways, sorry for spurring it on with another post. We really need to just ignore other people's remarks about what's hot and what's not and quite getting into these arguments every 5 pages.

I can respect what your saying but I just don't get it all, nor do I think I really care to terribly much. If it looks good then I ok with it.

Any ways you are right about though, lets just post pictures and get over it.

Oooooh Joey, you know that RX-7 is going to start an argument sooner or later...

I think it's pretty sexy either way. I love RX-7s.

Sure there is now, but there won't be in the future when companies stop producing them in the first place.

Because I'd like to actually have something new a fresh to look forward to on my car, not the same stuff that's been around for the last 5 years at least.

Wouldn't really be a problem if there was a constant supply of new products to choose from, would there? There's about 5 choices of front lips for my car, and being a Civic, that doesn't look good for less popular cars.

I can tell you about 10 places to get one like mine though.

Me too.

EDIT: I'd like to point out that you guys are extremely exaggerating the price of wheels, they aren't $5,000 dollars.
If you can afford to modify your car you can afford to buy decent parts, it's just that they choose not to. You can buy a great set of wheels for under 1k pretty easy, it's not like it's out of their reach.

I have a Japanese import (imported from Japan, not sold local) almost all of my aftermarket parts are also imported from Japan, not because I want to be 'JDM' which isn't that much of the case here as we have tons of genuine imports but because thats where most of the quailty parts are for these cars.

Although these days we are getting more and more quality local built stuff, so our choice is local or Japanese import.... or cheap Chinese built rip offs which are ever present. The cheap knock offs is ruining the Japanese import parts market and even worse the local built stuff. I will never buy a knock off, the quailty is always lower and I have personally seen so many failures due to them (not talking about wheels here).

As for my other car a Aussie muscle car, my parts are either local or American imports, you want the parts, thats where you look.

Oh and btw I have parts from almost every major Japanese tuner and maker on my car for it's own reason (No not talking about radiator cars and shift knobs) and have absolutely zero stickers or marking to show that off, I don't buy the parts for the name.

That is a very practical swap, makes sense. In Australia though we have a huge high powered rotary market with many shops who specialise in it so we don't have many LS RX7's. That thing would be quite a beast with a LS7, any LS9's yet? :D

I badly want a LS9 for my Monaro, but wont happen :indiff:

About the LS7 RX, what's the deal with the cut wheel arches? I realise they might be for clearance, but surely water on the alternator and fuses/wiring etc. can't be that safe?

I won't quote the RX7 pics again but that car is gorgeous, I reckon the series 8 front end is epic.

I know the wheels are both a silly green colour and Rotas, but don't hate, appreciate the stance. Despoiler FTW.

S12s are so tough. I should import a Gazelle RS-X. Or just stop dicking about and FJ20ET the Datsun.

That blue RX7 further up is a lovely piece of work. The 'Vette engine looks quite... snug.

Anyway - more photos. A fair few Civics (sorry Joey!), an Integra, and a Celica that you'll probably recognise. Apologies if any are reposts:

Some Ferios, including a brochure clip from one of the top JDM models, the Vi-RS. Nice to see people modifying ES sedans too (as in the black one at the bottom of these).

Hmmmm, I have been wanting to ask about the RS badge on Civic Ferios for a while now. Almost every Ferio in my village has that RS badge on the front grill (at least 3 cars). I thought it was some kind of thing between the guys that own them in my village all being friends or something. Can anyone explain? I would go out and take photos of them but it's dark now.

Best info I can find is here: http://world.honda.com/news/1998/4980903.html

Basically, it seems to be one model below the JDM SiR II (which in turn was the next highest performing after the Type R). The Vi-Rs has a three-stage VTEC engine designated D15Z7 as in the Vi, and all the RS seems to mean are the extra aero bits, fancy grill, interior trim and some nice wheels (the standard model has the same wheels as the VTi/Si EM coupes available in some other markets, as you can see from that brochure excerpt).

It also appears to have a sort of performance CVT transmission, which marks it out as being quite different from other performance Civics.

So there you go!

But I'd rather run wide steelies or used quality wheels picked up for cheap than fake splits or any of the other likes. You can find class wheels down to 1/4-1/2 of the price of similar wheels, you just gotta be patient really. Seems like most wankers want their car done yesterday, and would rather shell out for a set of fake splits that are easily and quickly obtained instead of waiting out a bit..

I have cheap wheels like Ronal Turbos and the likes, I wanted Works but knock-offs have kinda ruined them for me because you see them every day now.

On the note of racing inspired cars and so on, everyone that hypes up these stripped out, fully caged cars haven't been in one.. :) You can continue all the arguments here.

Anyway, thread rules:

I've linked to these pics in Eirik's new discussion thread, but I'm posting them here to keep that one uncluttered and to keep this one on the subject of imports!

The car below is an EM2 Civic Coupe Type R - a car the factory never produced, but some guy in Scotland has! The story from which the pics came is in the March 2009 issue of Japanese Performance magazine, photos by Adrian Brannan - credit where it's due.

The car is a mix of EM2 coupe, EP3 Civic Type R and DC5 Integra Type R.

The RX7 with the takata green stuffs is owned by a guy who used to frequent on the Digimods forum, does/used to work for Max Power, here's his old Civic:

I'm just not gonna comment anymore: there's clearly a fair sanction that thinks stretched tires and wild camber is cool. I don't. I'm simply going to leave it at that.

We have a separate thread to debate on this now. I'll be honest - there's times when I tire of the constant offload of E30s and E36s as well.

I see no problem with comments. Debate however is probably better kept to the dedicated thread now.

Oh, and a picture:
