I think he got those painted like that, not from Rota.

Also, Rota never make anything cool. They've just massively contributed to killing the industry.

But you must admit, with Rota, having awful gaudy wheel colors wouldn't be cool. Rota made gaudy colors cool and accessible to everyone.

No need for Rota when you can have Duplicolor for a fraction of the price and turn your OEM wheels into mad JDM y0 wheels!

What's wrong with a little pink on black? You guys all love your race cars with lime green and red and yellow wheels.

I don't understand the whole hate for Rota thing either. Okay, they are knockoffs...So? You can hardly tell, and the only difference between Rotas and the real things are probably the weight, and on the road that doesn't matter.

The weight isn't the issue. The wheels BREAKING is the issue.

The images of breaking ROTAs are bullpoop. All rims will break if you use them too hard/ don't bother to inspect them for hairline cracks, etc, after tracking them/driving hard on them.

Personally I wouldn't use ROTAs for full-on racing (primarily because there are better wheels out there for a little more dough) but the stories of them breaking randomly on public roads is tosh... unless the driver has hit a curb hard or treated the wheels like trash.

Hater stories, hater stories :yuck:

 No I know what you mean though, I've seen several people run Rotas for a long time and never have an issue with them. With any rim, even OEM one, you should inspect them from time to time since they do take quite a bit of abuse from pot holes and other uneven road surfaces. This is especially true if you have lower profile tires.

Some concessions must be made, I think, for companies that actually make high-quality knockoffs. Take Password JDM's "Powerchamber" air intakes for Civics for example. I believe the design is based on a J's Racing design from a while back. Now, I have no idea where to buy the J's version, as I've never seen it for sale and imagine it would be a ridiculous price. Maybe they don't make it anymore. But, Password's knockoff is still plenty expensive and of pretty darn good quality, and is certainly not your average Ebay or Autozone short-ram.

It's also spurred on designs for brand new cars. I'm not sure if those are knockoffs, or if they actually test them in computer simulations (I know they've tested on dynos at least), but they are one of the cases where they actually make good copies of parts that are almost inaccessible to your average tuner.

But then they may be guilty of JDM-killing also. For instance, their front strut tower bar. It's a copy of Carbing, and I have seen Carbing parts for sale before, somewhere. Carbing even had a version that incorporated a brake master cylinder brace, which is pretty baller. Password doesn't sell that, but they did make their version out of a stiffer tubing design.

Meh. I'd like to defend companies like that, and the parts that I bought, but I know they're knockoffs. Good knockoffs at least, with excellent quality. Makes me wish that these "real" brands would advertise more and make parts more accessible. But then again, it's good to have parts that are genuinely special and rare. That way when you do have the parts the guy next to you doesn't. That's pretty cool.

But yeah, knockoffs that don't carry on the quality of the original, like Rota, are pretty lame as balls.

This is why I hate Rota wheels and any other knockoff parts. I would post it here but it's a big article.

It's a good read, check it out.

He lost me when he said "Al Gore." If he wants to verify himself, he could do much better than THAT nutcase.

*gets past that, takes another look*

He makes a good point though...But one wonders why these companies don't sue for copyright infringement. Do they realize how much money they could make from suing these chinese knockoffs?

They can't sue these companies because there are always slight variations made to the knock off brands so that they're not exactly identical to the original.
This has been a long time practice with companies and keeps the lawyers off of their backs while companies get away with ripping off designs. :grumpy:

I still like to support the real brands where it's practical for me. Like the Enkei wheels. You won't see Konigs or Rotas on this car. But come on, Password's $170 short-ram is expensive enough, and it works better than other typical designs. I'm not about to go hunting for a J's pipe or spend $400 on a shiny aluminum box from ARC.

But anyway...

Me...posting VWs?

And Rev, you missed one that I've never seen before...

I'd object to the VW less if he'd gone ahead and removed the Mercedes center caps...the SLR wheels (?) don't look bad, but do look kinda stupid with big 'ol three-pointed stars...where there should be VW logos.

Apologies for double posting, but here are some rather nice imports from the Retro Cars website. I read the mag frequently and buy it occasionally, and they never fail to have some very nice cars in there. Link to their site here - it won't let me hotlink

A Vauxhall Nova an import? Maybe not for us in the UK (unless you consider it an Opel...) but it fits in with those above, so...

Not normally a fan of roof-racks but that one really suits it. It was a cover car a month or two ago - best looking Nova I've ever seen, the owner did a really nice job with it.

I'm really liking this Cooper S, I've posted one similar to it before although it was a Clubman.

Seriously? They drive $30,000 hot hatches and they couldn't be more clever than sets of Rotas? They're not even painted an interesting color for jebus sake! At least the first guy had the dignity to take the center caps out so nobody could see it.

I recommend you delete these photos from your collection and flame these Mini owners. They ruined baller cars with knockoff versions of wheels that aren't even appropriate for a Mini in the first place.

It's good to see some MINIs in here, Joey! 👍

They can be turned into some very good looking cars.

I was thinking a set of wheels somewhat similar to those on the last one would look pretty cool on the GTI.
