Ideas to be a cleaner driver?

Hi GTP,


Can you please give me advice to be a cleaner driver?

Because some times I don't like all of the hitting and sometimes I try to be clean but the AI keeps hitting me.BTW my driving view is the bumper view.

So what should I do?

There's nothing you can do about the AI drivers hitting you, seeing as they're all as dumb as rocks. The bumper view is the worst view when it comes to judging your own vehicle size and it's proximity to other cars, as well as surrounding roadside objects (but obviously it's down to personal preference). So perhaps this has something to do with your 'dirty driving'. I wouldn't recommend changing if it's what you're used to.

The only thing I can say is try harder not to ram other cars! ;) Perhaps you could try out-braking your opponents, going outside them as the AI sticks rigidly to the racing line - something you can exploit 'cleanly'. Use the full width of the track, as opposed to just the racing line.
 
The AI cars also brake ludicrously early for corners so out braking them shouldn't be a problem. As far as them hitting you, there's nowt that can be done. My personal 'favourite' is when you've out broke and got past a car only for them to pull alonside (i drive for 200 A-spec pts) and then push you off the road :mad:, why can't they see i'm there!

Anywho i digress, attack the course more and you'll win without having to knock them off the road.

Ps. i too drive in bumper cam view.
 
I disagree with you saying there is nothing to be done about AI hitting you. Yes, they drive only pre-programmed lines and are very slow to react to other cars moving into those lines, but if you've played long enough, you'll be able to predict their braking points and where it's safe to pass without contact. Often, you will have to just wait behind them until you reach a place you know is a passing point, even when you think you should be able to pass. Also, while bumper cam is indeed the worst for judging the position of your car, with enough experience, you will get a very good "feel" for where the edge of the car is, through the inevitable curb-riding and wall taps.
 
After a solid 4 years of playing this game, I've settled on the roof cam. You can very easily place the front tires exactly where you want them. :)

I don't like the swaying and bobbing of the car in the bumper view... I find it quite disorienting.
 
Hey SVX, I used to use the view looking at the whole car but since getting a steering wheel I have started using the 'inside the car view' where you see your bonnet. I beleive it is much easier to keep the car where you want it on the road. It is a little tricky to get used to but gives you are much more realistic experience. As for the AI drivers, I just try to pass them on the outside or on long straights. Watchout though as they will change into your line etc. even when you are right behind them, causing you to, more often than not, crash. :):)
 
I'd suggest you get at least the first two licences on silver. These teach you the fundamental skills needed for the game and any experience you gain later will be more useful as a result. You can't outbrake the AI properly until you understand the difference between the 'ideal' racing line used by them, and the 'best' racing line for the car you are using.
 
You could practice passing cars cleanly by (re)doing doing missions 1-10 (the pass). They all allow you to practice outbraking other cars cleanly, while providing a fun challenge.
 
My best tip: observe the AI behaviour. As has been mentioned, the AI are dumb and stick rigidly to a line whether you're there or not. What this also means is that you can learn exactly where they'll be at any point on any circuit, and plan your overtakes around that. I've done so many races at the 'Ring now that I know exactly where I can make safe overtakes without even brushing the AI cars.

On topic - As the others mentioned SVX, it's more a case of how you drive in regards to the AI and also what car you use for defending against the AI cars pushing against you. For example, if you use a small car against big heavy brutes, they will push you out of the way because it's simple physics playing there, the heavier car will win out in a shoving match.

But the AI is dumb as pig crap anyway and will run off the road at the first sign of pressure on some circuits and at others will brake up to 50m earlier than they should (Tsukuba is a perfect example of that) so it makes it easier to take the inside line on those corners. 👍

Also, listen to the others with the missions and licences. My advice would be that if you can get your S licence normally, go back and re-do the earlier ones and see how much you have improved since you first attempted those same tests. You may be surprised at your results. 👍

This is very true. Once you start learning where and how the Ai llike to drive, it's possible to work around their brain-deadness. I rarely get pummeled by Ai.

I think the 3rd person view (entire car) is actually worst. Depends on the car, though. One might have better luck driving a Prelude around in 3rd person than a PT Curser. :lol:
 
I like the idea of being a clean driver. I also use the bumper camera because for me is the most confortable. But each one uses the camera it wants. I don't have a lot of expirience being a clean driver but my advise would be to wait for a safe passing spot and overtake. Sorry for bad English.

What are you talking about? That is very good if it isn't your most spoken language. :)
 
AI? What AI? :odd: All I usually see on the track is roadblocks that move slowly and are easily outbraked when arriving to the corners.. Personally, I use the bumpercam more, unless I'm being a hooligan and drifting around the AI cars.
 
In an Arcade Mode single race, when you hit something, such as a wall or an AI car, with the front end of your car with sufficient force, Autodrive will take over when you near the pit entry and drive you through the pit area at the speed limit. You can't turn it on in GT Mode, but the idea is that you are punished for wallriding or bashing AI cars out of the way.
 
As you probably suspect, nothing happens, because there's no pit area. The same would occur on a "tarmac rally" track like Amalfi, George V Paris, or Citta di Aria. However, if you want, you can choose the other option on that menu, which, I think, gives you a five second penalty, just like in the Special Conditions races.

You would be correct Austin343. In arcade mode you can set the race parameters to include the 5 sec penalty. Run alot of races in arcade with the forced or time penalties in place and you will become a better/cleaner driver. Nothing sucks worst than having a long race ruined because of dumb AI. Trust me. We feel your pain, because it has happened to all us.

Watch out for the AI punting too. I'm a bumper cam driver too

Hi! These days I've been trying being a clean driver. It's more difficult than I thought. For example when I want to overtake a car in some thin tracks it's really difficult. In Nümburgring there a few safe spots to overtake. Could somebody give me any advice? Sorry for bad English as I always say... Bye.

Slipstream- brake early- overtake before corner:), the ai brakes too early, it is not a tough job to outbrake them...
 
Best technique to be a clean driver? Easy.

Take the BRM or Honda in Grand Prix Legends, set it up, then take it to the Ring and try to break the benchmark with it (under 8:22). Speedwise, those cars can do it but they're wholly unsuited to to the job due to their weight and tricky handling - not to mention a total lack of grip.


If you are not stupidly, *anally* clean doing that in every single corner, you will meet the scenery. Every. Single. Time. In Every. Single. Corner.

After managing that, driving totally clean in GT4 will seem so easy you'll be able to do it while being unconscious. It's really not that hard, only passing the AI can be tricky since they're intellectually challenged to the point of flatlining on yer average EEG.

I stay as clean as possible by not getting agressive while behind fast cars. Always look for that one opening to pass along the outside or when the AI goes to the left on a straight away, draft alittle and pass him/her along the right. Also, look at their brake lights. My friend and i did a reaction test in 2 player mode to where the leader would let the other driver tail him then brake at a moments notice.
 
personally i'd say save up for the 2000 Ford XR8 Falcon. put some qualifying tires all round and get confident with it. the car has an awesome amount of power, handles great and even better with the high grip tires; has awesome brakes and again even better with the high grip tires. but if you want to practice throttle control then equip it with some racing slicks. 👍 hope this helps.
