The Hill - This is the end, beautiful friends, the end

Ford Focus ST400

Test drivers, please take the time to watch this video, particularly if you're not familiar with driving FWD cars or the 'Ring. It is important to brake sooner rather than later and to use the throttle to modulate your line mid-corner. Provided you get both right, you can pull out of corners with alarming speed.

You can see the corners I missed, there's some time left out there for more consistent drivers than I. Try to stay off the curbs, you can ride them, but FWD is far less forgiving compared to RWD. And stay off the grass at all costs. This applies to all cars, FWD maybe more so. With Grip set to Real, you collect debris off the track and this ruins your grip for a while after doing so.

You chose just the right time, the fog has lifted on The Hill and the sun is shining brightly. There's a fresh stollen loaf on the side and you know where the kettle is, so make me a coffee whilst you're at it. And as always, there's fresh OJ in the fridge is you fancy something cool :)👍

Have you had a chance to trash the Alfa GT..?? I'm thinking about boosting it to 450-500PP and upgrading it to Sports tyres. I can't bring myself to submit it for the 2nd Round of CSLACR's 'Ring Shootout :indiff:

Thanks for the track time the other day, hopefully I'll find some time over the weekend (if I can keep my wife off of the Playstation and Oblivion..!!)...

{Cy}

No time for the Alfa just yet , well actually i did have time but it completely passed my mind :D .

We will see about the track time , you could always lock you're wife up in the basement , that way you have free gaming time :D ...

I think you'll like the big old GT, drives very well on bumpy tracks. However, in order to keep it under 420PP, it has had to go without oil. I'm not sure I can do that to a car, even an Alfa that will likely breakdown whether I oil it or not..!!

The wife and I were going to buy a second Playstation, so we could play coop on MW3 and the like. Well, we did buy a second Playstation, but only because she killed my original launch PS3 by playing Oblivion..!! If I could only get her to express an interest in GT5 :odd:

~Japanese Auto Celebration Shootout~

This car is full of squirrels (literally). On corner entry, the diff and brakes will lock the rear wheels if you're not careful. Likewise, it can push wide on exit, or oversteer. However, if you get your speed right, you can use very small amounts of lift-off to really pull the car in tight to the apex. The rear will bind slightly, acting like a drag brake.

Also be aware that this is a flat track car, it will not work well on bumpy or undulating track, you have been warned.

Hey Cy I like the Tarmac but I didn't think ryangt's rules allowed it since its a concept that was never actually produced or even finished with running gear.

Thank you for your concern, good Sir, but if you Google Mitsubishi Colt CZT, you'll find this car, without the 4WD drivetrain and with slightly less aggressive wheel arches. They even share the same engine 👍

I ran it past Ryan, just to be sure...

Nice choice for the 520 class. I almost entered one myself. @ XD I tried one and feel it is in line performance wise with the other contenders. The one concept that worries me is the gixxer-4 that car would dominate if allowed entry.

Thanks man, I was originally looking at it for the 490PP category, until Ryan pointed out it's Cr 60k :boggled:

If I'm honest, now I've posted it up, I'm going through the usual self-doubt. I do worry about it keeping up, we'll see...

I have a tune for the Mazda Crossport that is a few seconds faster then my entry, but like always I wanted a fun thing to drive... but second guessing is alway there :dopey:

Don't get me wrong I love the car and don't think it has any major advantage here just wanted to make sure you had cleared it before tossing it into the fray is all.👍👍

My Caldina is looking pretty good on Tsukuba but I think it may be off the pace a touch at Suzuka. Going to run it in all three classes.:lol:

Yeah, my EVO 520 entry has a little accel understeer that I can't really tune out without making it too slidey in the corners. I know I'll here about it from the testers but it laps fast when you get it right. So I'm also second guessing entering it.

I love the Tarmac, cool ride and I'm sure a one off for the shootout,

I was going to enter an Evo with the Yaw control enabled (to be pure) but could not getit to behave nicely on corner entry, to much "Kick" out sideways action

It was as close to Soccer Mom as I could get, whilst still packing a punch. I'll keep my eye out for one of those Crossports if you've got a build for it 👍

Not a problem Sir, I anticipated questions, that's why I checked with Ryan after doing a bit of surfing to confirm my hopes. Two reasons I ended up going with the car, firstly I'd already tried two other cars, an R34 at 490PP and a Mazdaspeed6 at both 490 and 520PP. I only took the Colt out for the giggles and ended up spitting my coffee everywhere. It was as fast as the Mazda with no tuning  Secondly, the last place I lived, there was a guy who parked his Colt Ralliart on my street, lovely looking and sounding car.

Keen to see your Caldina, I've a mate who would probably like a Sport Soft version at 500PP :sly: Hell, I wouldn't mind one. It's the sort of car I like :D

Ditto. My car has a fairly fine margin of error, with steep drop-offs :scared: Get it right though and it's a proper grin-machine :dopey:

I do hope so. I was very surprised when I checked the GT5 Google page to only find 2 builds for it.

My first few iterations utilised the AYC, as you can see, I'm now running a custom diff. My experiences of LSDs and AYC went something like this:

LSD: Hmmm ... corner ... Brake ... Turn ... Accelerate ... End.
Me: Nice...

AYC: FUUU YEAH, CORNER!! YAAAAARGGGGHHH, WOOOOOOAAAAH, YEEEEEEEEEAAAAS, BURN ALL THE RUBBERS, GO GO GOOOOOOOOO..!!
Me: *pant, pant, pant*

My 490PP one has a fast lap on Tsukuba of 1:02.028 keep messing up is the only reason I've not gotten it into the 1:01s.

Afraid that between my hate of Suzuka, mediocre driving and the cars limitations I'm only getting mid 2:22s there. Hoping the test drivers can fair a bit better on Suzuka than I do.:yuck:

As is on the Sports Hard tires it can win the 500PP Cape Ring seasonal easily.:D

madmyk did make a great tune for it in the garage (I drove it for weeks on end it was so fun), and I'd be happy to give you one, but sadly one is all I have :(. I think I may test the 520pp class, because it seems to be the most fun looking :dopey:

You should be fine then, we all know you drive like Miss Daisy :sly: Factoring in xDee Slow Hands, you're running times similar to what I did at that PP. In fact my 520PP times on SH rubber were only 1.6 faster at Tsukuba and slighter bigger handful at Suzuka. I too hate Suzuka, but that's where I spent most of my time testing. There was no way I was going to get caught up in the bun fight that Tsukuba is going to be..!!

I'm happy with my times, but am managing my expectations. Hopefully I've left enough play for the fast drivers but not too much for the regular drivers.

You're ok, thank you Sir. I'll troll the UCD if I haven't already got one parked at the back of the garage. I like the big barges for racing against mates, and you (guys) make very good racing barges :D

There's an eclectic collection of cars in the 520PP category, that's for sure...

Right, I'm going to be off the air for a little while and not just because my Wife now has Skyrim. We've finally managed to buy the house we've been after since Nov last year. So time will be limited and we'll likely have no internets for a bit. I'll stick my nose in, when I can, to see what's happening in the wider community :)

Have fun kids and play nicely whilst I'm away :mischievous:

NOOOOO!!! CYKOSIS!!!! DON'T GO!!! Now who will I attempt to kill ask to test my cars before a shootout?! :( :(

Glad you're moving up in the real world though, that's what matters, I suppose. Lucky man is going to enjoy his new house, we should leave him to be for a bit.

It's defo the Wife's game, not mine ... I may have played it a little bit :sly:

Hopefully we'll soon have enough room to have two PS3s up and running, so my Wife can kill all the dragons she wants, whilst I race you bunch of basturts..!! :mischievous:

The Build.

On request from CyKosis, I reran this Escort Rally tune with a few changes to the drive train. I already liked this car's handling alot and listed it in my top three on driver's choice. This tune really only had a couple of small handling issues. I wanted more turn in. It also has that mid-corner sidesays dirt drift. It doesn't have that aggressive dirt drive off the corner.

One change made the largest difference. I changed the torque distribution from 40/60 to 50/50 and it came to life from mid-corner off. I could get really aggressive through the downhill corner combos and I didn't need to lift at all in the all important turn 5 heading up the hill. This one change made me like this car even more than I had before.

I tried some other LSD settings but only found small gains. Cykosis' settings were: LSD front 8/16/8 and LSD rear 8/16/8. I decreased LSD decel on both ends of the car just a hair to get a little more aggressive turn in. I also increaded the front Initial and Accel in an effort to get the front to drag a little around the apex. I have found that on dirt, higer front LSD settings and more loose rear settings allows the front to drag a little and the rear to rotate a little. The bigger you make this split, the more the effect. It is a great tuning tool for changing the car's corner balance.

My LSD settings:
Front 10/18/7
Rear 8/14/7

Like I said, I still really like this car.

Both from google :dopey:

I wish I could test it but no PS3 for 2 weeks :(

I was too lazy to take a picture of the Focus, and I only needed one photo for the Shootout.

And when I say The Real Thing, the car in game has the same registration as the car in the bottom pictures, R4 FMC (scroll down a bit) 👍

I'll leave the cars up on share for a while, the Shootout will take a couple of weeks anyway...
