GTA: Liberty City Stories

Great vid for the firetruck glitch, it looks so easy!! And I love how you put the triangle button onscreen to show when you pushed it..brilliant!

The warp zone is a collision glitch, very common in 3-D games. There's no exact spot to do it, it all depends on the game physics in a weak spot of the game, being exploited by an action that further weakens the physics.

Take for example; LoZ: Ocarina of Time. I recently performed a collision glitch in that game and was able to "sequence break" the entire last level.
By moving a statue to right up against the wall, a well aimed sword slash pushes Link outside the wall...
Pic100.jpg

Pic101.jpg
Pic102.jpg

For some reason this glitch only works in that spot, other statues just squeeze you up to ontop of them. And a more recent game, Castlevania: Curse of Darkness,,,same concept but the details are too long to explain--puts you outside the normal map area...

Thanks. I was very happy with how that worked out. I asked my son for help on the thought characters and he offered to animate the button push too. I would have been content with a simple triangle flash, but the animation gives more warning of what and where to look.

Based on your comments about the frame before the load screen I reviewed some of the clips in slow motion. With a little tweaking I managed to get several clear images - the video stream tends to show blurred images if I simply export the frames. The thumbnail below links to a larger image showing a composite of 2 frames on either side of the Welcome to Staunton Island load screen.

Top Left - Last normal frame of the tell-tail slide in Portland.

Top Right - First frame in Staunton; forces loading of map. A blurry after-image from Portland can still be seen on radar. The mission icons are now far to the east and a corner of the stadium map with a distinctive gray arc is visible in the NE sector of the radar. Toni appears to be underground, but I don't recognize the bridge support structure on the horizon. [Edit: The structure appears to be the Lift Bridge to SSV.]

Bottom Left - First frame after the load screen. The radar map is the same as the previous frame but the after image from Portland is absent. Toni appears to be high above ground level, but I suspect the map still isn't fully loaded.

Bottom Right - Second frame after load screen. The radar map now shows the other 3 sectors and the structure of the stadium can be seen.

I see what you mean about collisions when I review the warps in slow motion. In all cases Toni begins a collision animation that leads to appearing flat on his face on the sidewalk outside of the stadium. In the other blue hell warps I've tried, Toni will flail his arms during a falling animation - unless he crashes into something. Here's another shot of Toni a few frames further in the animation.

Nice vids, Orion 👍. Thanks for sharing.
outofthegamer, you're the guy from gamefaqs who found the warp zone glitch, right? Very cool stuff as well 👍.

What is everyone's favourite vehicle? I suppose it depends on the situation and availability of the vehicle, but if I had my choice and was looking for something quick then I would tend to grab a cheetah. I'd always grab a Banshee in GTA3, but I have a tough time handling one in LCS.

I tried doing some vigilante with a police car in Staunton, but wasn't able to keep my wanted level below three stars. Eventually I followed Spuds' lead and grabbed a tank to store in my garage, then did vigilante with it.

**Possible Spoiler**

Also, I tend to agree to an extent with what Kooky said about the story line being longer and making Shoreshide Vale more interesting. There are less than half the amount of story missions in SSV compared to Portland. I felt the same way with GTA3. It felt like there weren't many story missions in SSV.

In any case, I'm glad there are street races in Shoreside for LCS, as well as all of those other side missions. The "See the sight before your flight" missions are pretty neat, I think.

PCJ600! I much prefer motorbikes to cars so I just keep my garages packed with PCJ600s. The Banshee is my favourite car, just like it was in GTA3. For doing missions that you need something resilient, the Patriot is great. It's got decent speed, handles well and takes a buttload of abuse.

KM.

I'm partial to the PCJ's also-- even in alot of missions-- the patriot is great-- I just found the enforcer yesterday and used it on a "run over" rampage... worked great...I think its even more durable then the patriot... and still handles decent with popped tires.

Finished the story yesterday... the last mission was a bit too easy IMO-- it too me 2 tries only because I didn't grab the armor at the last bit up there when I took some damage-- I had trouble with alot of other missions in the game more then that one.

I've been working on some side stuff... (without guides) am now at 53% with 21 hours played (saved time)... been knocking out the races, check points and stuff... I have 42 packages, 10 rampages, and 10 jumps done-- have yet to finish my R3s other then vigilante and firefighter-- I wanted firefighter done so I could go crazy with molotovs in some situations.

Once again I'm finding some of the liberty city rampages tough (like III's)-- I still don't think I've found any on Portland yet???? found a bunch on SSV and SI.... one of them is kicking my but... too many gangmembers are spawning

I did mess around with that warp/teleport thing and couldn't get it to work... I even tried to do it on a PCJ and see if I could get some "superjump" stats without luck.

I also tried the III superjump but just got blown up... I wasn't sure if I was positioned correctly anyway.... Its harder driving a car on the L-tracks in LCS then I remember from III.... but its been a while..

Overall I'm happy with the game-- but you guys are right about the abbreviated time/missions in SSV--- left me wanting a little more (maybe some more side stuff)--

Favorite vehicle? I prefer bikes, except maybe on Staunton Island for variety. The streets of Portland are narrow, crowded, and bordered by obstacles, and the cross town jumps in SSV are much safer on a bike. I guess my favorite random car would be the (Yakuza) Stinger because I associate it with Liberty City. My favorite new car is the Deimos SP. My favorite special car is the Bickle '76 because unlike the Bulletproof Landstalker is will respawn and doesn't take up valuable garage space. The Bickle is a great car for the Portland street race, but I haven't driven my BP Landstalker any further than the garage. Oh, I like what they did with the Manana. It's cute and manuverable; a great alternative to the Caddy. And the BF Injection sucks; it can't climb in the sand and is useless in grass - may as well get out and run.

I did most of the side missions and packages before any of the story missions. I used a map to find my last three packages and the rampages I'd been avoiding so carefully while exploring. I discovered the lift bridge and ammo glitches on my own so I don't feel bad for using them. After I reached 100% I loaded my Home Sweet Home save and used the warp zone to shoot for the maximum non-cheat % before missions. I'm weird that way, I love glitches but avoid cheats. Then I discovered tunnel drops and that added some extra play to the game.

Now I'm back to one of my favorite all-time GTA side missions - Vigilante. I've had a lot of practice with vigilante so to make it challenging I started a new game so I wouldn't have double damage police cars, only did the first few story missions, and glitched some ammo for the Micro-SMG. I've decided I prefer the micro-smg to the MP5 dropped by some of the targets starting around level 7. When I start to use the MP5 for drive-bys everything starts to go badly. I can destroy the vehicles a little quicker, but there is a much higher chance of a quick explosion or fast chain reaction with other vehicles damaging the police car.

My goal is to complete Vigilante level 12 within 15 minutes, but at best I'm still a level short; usually it takes closer to 20 minutes. I tried both weapons; I finish faster with the micro-smg because I waste too much time collecting bribes, replacing vehicles, and reloading when carrying the MP5. So I guess the only way to improve my time is to find better routes across town and to avoid hitting things while navigating by radar.

BTW, I don't like the new timer for Vigilante in LCS. Each level allows 5 minutes to complete. I like the other method where time is accumulated so at very high levels there is enough time to cross the whole planet to get the weapon needed to kill the target that is stuck inside of a locked building. Usually 5 minutes is plenty of time, but why change the rules for a perfectly good side mission?

I love PCJs just for the fact that when one drives by you can shoot the driver right off. Yakuza Stingers have always been my favorite car (if i ever won the lottery, I'd make a real one) I've always wondered what kind of car it's supposed to be...

Time of Death: I found the warp zone, the "leap of faith" blue hell entrance, and the Staunton pay 'n' spray blue hell entrance (the ceiling isn't solid). I also found a way to drive a PCJ right off the top of the mountain in SSV,,,near the observatory; it's kind of tricky but I'll explain how if you want--you just end up falling for a while and landing in the tunnel--with a pretty decent "insane jump" message.

I also read about something that might be of interest to you guys (if you haven't already heard about it) You can supposedly make any car/bike, that is available in the "salesman" missions, fireproof/bulletproof/etc. By just driving it into the water far enough for a "mission failed" message to appear. The game thinks that you have destroyed the vehicle, but as long as you an drive it out, it won't be. I haven't actually tried it (having too much fun with the Firetruck glitch!!) but it seems logical that it would work.

Thats cool-- I tried to steal the one from the yakuza mission (on top of the casino) but it was locked-- bullet proof too (I tried sniping the pilot)-- I'm guessing using the taxi boost with the taxi that the taxi isn't tall enough to jack the heli-- was hoping it could be done without cheats....

Does anyone know what (if anything) unlocks extra health??? I did paramedic a little while ago and once again it gave me unlimited sprint. I can't pass one of the rampages (keep getting killed) and I think I need the extra health to pass it.... just too many gangmembers spawning (never seen so many 20 )-- its the AK one in the northern 1/2 of SI (didn't want to give away the exact location)...

Does "trash dash" need to be done on each island maybe?? I've done it on SI and Portland.. have yet to finish taxi... 62% done now...

Nice vid, indeed 👍.

I think the "Noodle Punk" and "Pizza Boy" missions give you 25% more health each.

outofthegamer, thanks for the info about the "salesman" glitch. It does seem work, indeed 👍.

I also like the PCJ-600, but my main issue with it is that I usually end up falling off every now and then :) (and sometimes more often than not). Need to work on it.

So i was hopeing one of the glitchers could perhaps make a better looking video of that heli jacking strat. Mind doing so anybody? (the quality of that other vid is kinda bad, plus i would like to save it to my harddrive)
I know its cheating to get it, but i think its very worth it. :)

I have no idea about trash dash, portlands one was kinda easy, after getting back to the dump, im like ok, here comes level 2, but nope, i was done. :(

The taxi can jump in gta lcs?

Spuds, Trash Dash on every island is required.

outofthegamer, you are going to love this...

A Connecticut Yankee in the S Staunton Subway

I revisited Leap of Faith and managed the turn using cocktails to navigate. I made it all the way to the S Staunton Station and tried to explore the structure, but the ceiling is not solid over the ramp out of the tracks so I fell through into the subway station. I rode the train in the invisible subway (which has a much more interesting animation when you can see through the tunnel walls), but the map loaded shortly after the SSV station where the tunnel crosses back toward Staunton Island.

So I returned into the S Staunton Station with a Yankee, parked it over the ramp and climbed it to jump up through the ceiling onto the subway tunnel. Since the subway map was loaded while driving the the Yankee down the stairs it is much easier to explore the subway system. I managed to time the tip of the wave that killed Toni in SSV Tunnel Drop and connect the two systems all the way to the tunnel blocking at the other end of SSV Tunnel Drop.

Near the SSV Station cars and peds will fall from the sky. I managed to jack a Freeway which will fit under the blocking overpass at SSV and traveled from the SSV tunnel wall to the water blocking the path between S Staunton and the Leap of Faith near the Callahan Bridge. Toni took health damage while driving the bike through water and since half his health was missing from other explorations he didn't survive long enough to get through it all.

I know the one you're talking about. It's a toughie alright, but the one that gave me most trouble was one on Staunton where you have to slaughter a bunch of peds with a chainsaw. That chainsaw is just useless. You walk up to someone and hit fire and he just sticks it a foot in front of him, misses the ped and everyone runs off. I eventually did it after about 10 tries. Each time I'd end up with 2 or 3 stars and nowhere near the total target, so I'd have to run off and restock on health and armor, come back and do it again, and again, and again...

I've finished the rampages and unique jumps and I'm up to 75% so far.

Spelunking in GTA Liberty City Stories

Mission completed. I have explored the entire underground tunnel system of Liberty City Stories.

Blue Heaven is accessed from the Speeder Drop where the subway passes under the docks of east Staunton Island. The subway train travels from an invisible wall northwest of the unfinished tunnels of Staunton Island, south east to the Chinatown Station, south west to the drop point under the dock, and a little further south to the wall of the Callahan Bridge where health damaging water can be found. I parked a car that fell from the sky in the Red Light District in front of the wall, jumped off the tunnel to warp to Staunton, and then visited the north wall of Leap of Faith using the Connecticut Yankee access so the wall would be invisible and I could see the car parked on the other side of the wall.

Leap of Faith can be accessed by jumping under the bridge using the blue containers near the east docks of Staunton Island. This section continues the train’s route from the Callahan Bridge south toward the water near the southern end of Staunton Island. The invisible tunnel can be navigated using rocket glare and the water can be navigated using Molotov Cocktails to cross into the Connecticut Yankee section of the subway.

Connecticut Yankee is accessed by parking a Yankee near the ramp leading from the tracks of the S Staunton Station and jumping from the Yankee through the ceil which is not solid. The subway map is pre-loaded entering the station. This section extends from the water’s edge at the southern end of Leap of Faith, to the tip of deadly water at the south end of the SSV Subway section of track. It is possible to sneak under the tip of deadly water on foot and with a vehicle by timing the waving motion of the water.

SSV Subway can be accessed by the Runway Drop in Shoreside Vale. This section starts at the tip of deadly water under south west Staunton Island, west to the SSV Station, and north where it is blocked by the SSV Tunnels.

Shortline Vale is the small section of subway tunnel where the train passes under the SSV tunnels to the coastal wall of east Shoreside Vale. This section of tunnel can be accessed by jumping down from the SSV Tunnels (more information on accessing the SSV Tunnels will follow).

Abandoned Subway is the section of subway tunnel that completes the subway circuit by extending the route from the east coast of SSV, past the abandoned subway, through the N Staunton Station, to the invisible wall near the Unfinished Tunnels under Staunton Island. This section of track can be accessed by pushing a Firetruck into the water over the ledge above the subway as it passes under west Staunton Island and jumping a PCJ onto the floating wreck for the drop. If you travel the straight route west toward SSV on the invisible tunnel the subway map will load at water’s edge for the return trip. The Staunton Island map will load again as Toni approaches the abandoned subway. The train wreck of the abandoned subway is within throwing distance. The subway map will load again as Toni enters the N Staunton Station and this will make visible the invisible wall that blocked the path of Blue Heaven.

The Unfinished Tunnels under Staunton Island can be accessed by jumping down from the subway tunnel of Blue Heaven. The inside of the unfinished tunnels can be accessed by jumping a car into blue hell near the abandoned subway.

The SSV Tunnels can be accessed by driving a vehicle to barrier blocking at the end of Blue Heaven and jumping over the wall from the top of the vehicle, or by a tunnel drop in Wichita Gardens. The crossing is marked on the map near the sign with the armor and the road to the campground. I managed to jump a PCJ on to a Firetruck for the drop, but it was much easier to bring a Predator from the end of the far runway.

Portland Post Drop

I finally found the location for a Portland drop. At the north end of the channel wall are several supports for the L-train at water's edge. I parked a Coach between the northern most pole and the lamp post just to the south and pushed it into into the water. Then I jumped a Sanchez onto the floating Coach for the drop onto the invisible subway. Now that I know the location I can manage the jump with a Mule and PCJ. The subway runs directly under the lamp post heading to the southeast.

I didn't have any problems navigating to the Chinatown Station to load the subway map using rockets, but these aren't available on Portland. It might be possible to use cocktails, but these aren't easy to find in Portland until Staunton is almost open anyway. However, the train is still visible so if Toni is careful to wait and follow the trains, it is possible to use this drop to get to Staunton Island. However, I suggest continuing past Staunton to SSV and using the AWOL Angel Ammo and Lift Bridge Glitches to collect enough rocket ammo to safely navigate the invisible tunnel for return trips. Rockets can be found under the SSV side of the Lift Bridge and AWOL Angel is on the second level of Witchita Gardens.

I think the Firetruck Drop is safer than timing the tip of deadly water blocking the subway route to SSV, but I've had a lot of practice. If someone was trying to get all the way to SSV from Staunton and wanted to minimize the risk of a first time visit, the Connecticut Yankee Path might be a better choice. The timing for the Firetruck Drop might be difficult to guess, but timing a character's movement under a deadly obstacle is a very familiar puzzle for gamers. My guess is that more people will guess the timing correctly for the tip of dead water than the Firetruck Drop. Also, if you get caught by the water with full health it is possible to jump off into blue hell to escape. There's a health heart right next to the subway entrance and the rare Yankee will probably still be there.

Awesome stuff Orion, however the fast forward bits made my brain bleed, but that's probably just me!

Maybe I pushed the time compression a little too far on some of the videos. 3X isn't bad, but I tried 5X to keep the file size down. Maybe that was too much. I only squeezed the driving parts of this next video, and stuck with 3X. I would appreciate feedback on the use of time compression, the service of the file hosts, or other qualities of the videos.

The time compression was my only complaint. It was only really the 5X that got me, however perhaps there should be an epilepsy warning at the start, as things get a little flashy at times...LOL!

Another nice vid :). I downloaded all of the vids and think the quality is great. Once again, thanks for posting them. I used the rapishare links because it lets me save the file to my hard drive (where as BaDonGo loads a vid in windows media player when I press "Download File").

That's good to know. I was considering abondoning Rapidshare as a host but I don't get many downloads from BaDonGo.com. I think if you right-click the link, reconfigure your browser, or use a different browser, that it is possible to download from BaDonGo instead of viewing in Media Player, but I was not aware of any confusion.

I remixed the Portland Post video with 3X time compression instead of 5X and cut out what I could to get it under 5 minutes (4:30). I agree that 5X was too fast. I work hard for continuous shots and hate to give them up, but I don't want to be causing any seizures.

Congratulations Orion_SR, on succesfully navigating the entire tunnel system...on foot!!! I did it recently with a heli. I also got inside the abandoned tunnels a different way. I did the firetruck glitch near the stadium, but instead of going west to SSV, I went east to the other side of Staunton Island. There you can see the tunnels on your map, sticking out of the edge of Staunton Island.

The tunnel heads east by northeast torwards portland, but it ends right away. Right before it ends a smaller tunnel branches off to the south. Walking along the west edge of the smaller tunnel, an invisible barrier forces Toni closer and closer to the edge, until he falls. After falling I was loaded into the the tunnel.

The roofs of the unfinished tunnels have some strange properties. In several places the roof is not solid. I usually stick to the side of the wide part that heads toward SSV, and the top of the spur that leads toward the unfinished entrance by the Staunton Hospital.

When returning from the end of the narrower Staunton tunnel (makes a great insane jump) and heading north to the part visible in the NE corner of Staunton Island where it meets the main tunnel between SSV and Portland, it is important to stay on top or the invisible barrier (horizontal plane level with the top) will block the path. However, a Freeway is short enough to fit under the barrier and around the corner.

When traveling along the main tunnel the roof level shifts from the edge level to the top level. There are gaps between the levels that a Freeway will fit under and fall though to the tunnel. It is possible to snipe or shoot rockets between the gaps (more fun on the SSV tunnels). I usually travel along the egde to reduce the risk of crashing into the level shift and loosing my bike in the gap. Traveling the edge in a car is tricky, but I did manage it once in order to jump over the barrier blocking off the tops of the SSV Tunnels. BTW, I once found a Perennial parked on top of the SSV tunnels. Unfortunately, it was locked and hasn't respawned.

I hadn't tested the depths of blue hell on foot in that area, Usually falling in that area will warp into an endless fall so I've been very careful. But the location you tested is far from Fort Staunton and a ways out to sea. I would have guessed a warp back to Staunton but it's good to know there is a foot warp available. The only way I have found out of the tunnel is to die. However, once I saw a cop car inside the tunnel after I ran up my wanted level with rockets, but he drove right off into blue hell before I could react. I don't think he spawned in the tunnel, I suspect he fell through another way.

If you use Firefox, with the UnPlug extension, you can right click the page, and got to UnPlug, and it lists all the embedded objects, and lets you download them. I use it at YouTube, and other not-normally-downloadable video sites all the time. I tried it with google video, to try and get a non-google version (I hate the google player), but they convert it before making it pubic.
