GTA: Liberty City Stories

Just for clarification: we are discussing the Bus, and not the Coach. The Coach looks like a modern Tourist Bus and spawns at the Bus Barn at the south end of Portland. The Bus looks liike an old-school school bus. The vehicle model is reported to be in the game, and a wrecked version can be seen in the scrapyard.

I'm still getting Toni and his MP5 killed about 4 out of 5 tries, but twice now I've been able to finish Vigilante level 12 in under 15 minutes; my best so far is 13:35. The pace must be relentless. There are 24 target vehicles so on average, each must be destroyed within 30 to 35 seconds to allow a little time for switching vehicles and chasing bribes.

I'm really having problems controlling the cinematic camera view in Portland. There just aren't that many good open areas with the proper perspective so most of the time it's in fender view. However, I am really liking the 1st person view when weaving through traffic in St Marks.

Now 12:05. Did it in one car, finally. I'm starting to get a little control over what I consider to be the reckless tactics necessary to complete level 12 this quickly. Toni only dies in maybe 3 of 5 attempts.

Ahhh, well in that case, nope, haven't seen it. There is no way to get into the bus at the junkyard?

Anybody know if the Manchez bike has better speed, acceleration, or anything then the Sanchez????

I just unlocked it yesterday and I can't really tell.

I also finally got that stupid package on the ledge in the construction site in Portland-- I got it once pretty easily.. then died after and reloaded--- I spent well over an hour of gameplay trying to get it again... :nervous:

Is there an easy way to get that that I couldn't see???

60 packages so far- I found 89 without a guide in III so I'm trying to beat that-- Trying to get at least 3/4 of the jumps and rampages too (I did find all the rampages in VC)

- 67% total in my game.

I have a favorable impression of the Manchez, but haven't done any objective testing. I was using it where I wanted the speed of a PCJ, but the off-road handling of the Sanchez.

There are two ways I know of to get the package on the ledge of the contruction site in Portland. Both involve getting onto the upper level and dropping down to the platform with the package.

1) Climb the L-train tracks and sprint-jump to the platform, or
2) Just before Staunton is unlocked a slight map change from a mission will open a new method to reach the platform.

It looked too far to make from the L-tracks so I never tried...

Not sure what you meant by #2??? Does a section of wall disapear allowing you to drive a taller vehicle in there???

The way I did it...
3) Park a bike in front of the ledge (out about 10-15 feet). Knock it over... now use another bike to jump up to the ledge using the first as a ramp/bump...takes a bit of a run up and evidently some luck (which I had my first try)...:ouch:

Sort of; the walls change, but not at the construction site. If you have unlocked Staunton, then this method is available. I would be more specific, but you have asked us to avoid spoilers. Don't worry, you'll find it before 100%, and it will be easy to recognize if you make the jump on foot.

Useing a bike to jump from the L-train is pretty easy too. You want to drive against the train's dirrection, on the middle area, then just as it comes up, turn hard and you should make it, sometimes you fall off your bike, sometimes not.

I explored the top of the last section of tunnel - the new tunnel in the back of SSV. I used the helicopter to fly around the back of the planet. The helicopter can't quite go high enough unless Toni starts low so there is some upward momentum. It's really boring so I don't see a need to look for a non-cheat way to get there. I suppose there are some intersting views of Toni standing just below the ceiling of the tunnel, but that's about it. When Toni jumped over to the extension to nowhere it wasn't solid and he warped back to SSV.

I've finished the story--

Thanks for respecting my spoiler wish.... If I get to 100% and still don't know what you are talking about I'll ask.

70% done now... got a few more jumps-- finally found a rampage on portland and up to 65 packages now.. 14 rampages, 9 jumps--- knocking out the races and RC stuff still-- I found and skipped a fair amount of stuff early on...

So I can start one up then?
EDIT: If someone wants to run it, do so. Otherwise I'll take care of it next weekend when I come back from some vacation.

Also, what is the "sprayings" stat?

How many car sprayings you have did. Duh;)

Anybody know if, when your jumping off a unquie jump and you get that cinematic slow motion happening, if your useing a bike, and your still holding the correct amout of pushing up on the control stick, that you're still gaining speed? Or would it stop being affective once you get airborne? (Ive always wondered this, but have no idea the true answer.):crazy:

Did we decide anything about a record book for LCS?
That`ll be interesting once it`s here. I may go for some of the killing records someday. That is, after I`m finished with San An. :sly:

Oh, and after I actually OWN a copy of LCS. 💡

Attn: Orion SR or anybody who knows the answer to my question.

Does tilting forward on a bike give you better speed if your in a cinamatic unique jump attmept?
Thus getting more distance, or does it stop helping once your airborn?

I don't know how tilting influences jump distance. Standing and ducking controls don't apply in the air, so reducing air resistance isn't a factor. Vehicles don't accelerate when the wheels are off the ground anyway. The only physics in the game are programmed; my impression is the physic set is fairly limited and real-world experience won't help much.

During the jump the bike is an "object in motion" that is influenced by gravity and air resistance. I suspect that air resistance in contant for each vehicle and the increased speed from ducking on a bike is a modification to the vehicle's top speed or acceleration. This would explain why people report more speed is gained by tapping the D-pad than when using a perfect analog duck.

I usually control the tilt of the bike in a way that I think it would help gain more distance using areodynamic lift - similar to a ski jumper's air foil technique. But I don't think this helps; it just looks cool in cinematic view. I'm mostly concerned about sticking the landing, but sometimes I need the wheels to clear an obstruction - similar to a high jumper clearing the bar.

The slow motion physics in cinematic view may also have some strange influences on jumps. My experience from other GTA games is that the animation for unique jumps somehow kills the vehicle spin for flips and rotation. I'm in the habit of looking for non-unique stunt jumps when working on rotation and flip stats, so I never tested LCS to see if the same thing still happens.

The short answer-- I don't think it affects it-- if you hold the stick forward while in the air then you will start to flip forward so you would not be able to hold it the entire jump anyway.

Yeah i know, i was just wondering.
So does tapping up bulid more speed, or is it alright to hold it?

Also another werid question involving a glitch(i think), its in the stats screen. Has to do with bump and grinds, it give's you a Most Air Acheived(M) stat, but for some reason it goes away. Anybody know why? I made it come back, when i started a new game and loaded my "good" save, and was able to get my record up to 23(m), but now today when i try it, i can't get that stat category to show up again on my good save.
To me it seems like a temporay stat, that shows up in your huge list of stats, but if someone knows a way to make it show up when you want to see your best, or improve your best. I would love to know it. :)

Regarding the Manchez, to me it feels like it has more juice than the Sanchez. After unlocking it a couple weeks ago, I worked on the first course of Bump & Grinds and cut several seconds from my Sanchez times. My best course time for Course 1 using the Manchez is 0:43 (splits were 15-14-14... 14 is my best first/second lap and 13 is my best lap using the final lap strategy) and my best lap time is 13 seconds.

EDIT: Looking forward to the record book! Should be interesting with all of the different races and stats.

Tapping: I started to suspect that tapping provided extra speed when a keyboard racer kept posting outstanding times in bike races in GTASA for PC, but I never tested the idea. I wonder if a speedometer mod might provide objective data on the top speed of either method. I don't have much experience with mods. Then D-pad tapping was suggested like it was a well known fact in a jumping strategy topic on GameFAQs. So I tried it and it seems to work, but I don't like switching between the D-pad and analog stick so I try to acheive the same effect with the joystick only instead.

Most Air Stat: I seem to remember seeing that stat, but lost track of it. I would not be at all surprized to learn that this stat is glitched in a way that is similar to the Scrapyard Glitch (4X $ Bonus doesn't save), and Lift Bridge Glitch (position status isn't saved). Rockstar Leads inexperience seems to be demonstrated by some of these glitches, or maybe this is a symptom of the memory and save requirements for PSP games - probably a little of both.

I suggest that you experiment with it to discover the properties of the glitch. This would be information useful to people considering a record book for LCS. It might be necessary to load a particular save, set a Most Air record, and take a screenshot before resetting, in order to document a stat for this record.

From what i can tell it randomly shows up, im not sure why, or if because i have new mission saved with just the 1st track beaten. It shows up whenever im not expecting it, and when i want it too, its gone. :(

Seem like it comes and goes when it please's. I have a save with just the first mission and first bump and grinds complete. Even with that save, it doesn't always show up. But it seems like it helps, i guess. :(

I'm now at 85%--

78 packages, 16 rampages, 16 jumps found

Running out of things to do--- does anyone know how the mission points are distributed with the jumps???? is it like VC where they were disproportionate (2% for every 3 jumps)-- I still don't want to consult a guide until I'm stuck--- my goal is to find at least 75% of the jumps, rampages, and packages-- still lacking 4 jumps for this....

I'm officially out of stuff to do (other then my jumps, rampages, and packages)---

87% with 78 packages, 16/20 rampages, and 16/26 jumps.....

Anybody have an idea of the % breakdown for the jumps, packagee, and rampages-- should I be looking for more side stuff or am I wasting my time??? I don't want to look at a guide yet--

As I stated before VC gave you

~ 2% per 3 jumps
1% for every 10 packages
I don't recall the rampage percentages...

I did some poking around on a new game to get these numbers.

10 Packages = 1% (tested only with 1st 10 packages)

Rampages
1 = 1%
2 = 1%
3 = 2%
4 = 2%
5 = 3%
6 = 4%

Jumps
1 = 1%
2 = 1%
3 = 2%
4 = 2%
5 = 3%
6 = 4%
7 = 4%
8 = 5%
9 = 5%
10 = 6%
11 = 7%
12 = 7%

---------------
+87% Complete
+03% Packages
+02% Rampages
+06% Jumps
=98% Complete
---------------
Maybe a little bit more due to rounding errors.

Thank you very much-- helps out alot-- I know I'm in the ball park at least--

either nothing left or 1 or 2 other misc items-- I'm gonna give it another 8-10 hours of searching for my rampages, packages, and jumps-- and if I find the remaining items (if there are any) in the process thats great-- but if not... oh well..

I expect that you will find all of the rampages while searching for packages. The rampages really aren't "hidden" the way the packages are. You are bound to stumble across most of them while systematically covering the map for lost packages. Some of the packages are very well hidden in obvious spots; I was really irritated by the ones I missed (but I looked there already, twice). I'm surprized that you haven't found more jumps. I thought most of them were pretty obvious. Would you like a few hints? Maybe a breakdown by island?
