GTA: Liberty City Stories

No hints-- I may have found a few more jumps and not completed them-- and just need to go back through some of them-- I also may have reloaded over some jumps and packages-- I was pretty systematic with rampages though (doing them right after finding them)

Most of the rampages I've found without problems-- portland for some reason has given me problems--- I've only found/completed 3 there and all were after I did the story-- and I agree they were not very hidden...

I'm assuming the breakdown for each is similar to III-- with about 1/3 on/near each island-- but since I really haven't kept track (other then portland rampages) this doesn't really help me...

Did anyone else do their game like me??? Just wondering how I'm doing in my searching.... I have not been very systematic-- but have given areas of the map pretty hard target searches... but fairly randomly around the city (not concentrating on SI for instance and doing a hard target search block by block.....

I've played all my GTAs this way-- but will admit that I did not get very far on the hidden stuff in SA... just too much of it.... I'm still only about 1/2 done with my SA jumps... VC rampages are the only ones I found all without a guide

I poked around a little more with the percentages for rampages, jumps, and missions. It seems I made an obvious mistake on my initial report. The jumps and rampages appear to score the same as for missions (about .585% each). Mixing jumps, rampages, story missions, and side missions will increment the game % in the same pattern as jumps only or rampages only. The packages are scored independantly and did not increment the % until a set of 10 was collected (10 packages = 1%). The mistake I made was not including the first mission before the jumps and rampages.

100% Complete
-03% Packages
=97% Remaining
-9.945% for 17 missions, jumps and rampages
=87.055% Completed

Or

100% Complete
-03% Packages
=97% Remaining
-8.19% for 14 jumps and rampages
-1.17% for 2 missions
=87.64% Completed

There still might be some error in these estimates. The fractions will all resolve for 100%, and I only had a small sample of 38 to estimate the per item percentage. Also, .585% doesn't add up to an even 90.0%, so something else is going on. Still, finding all but 2 or 3 side missions is impressive. Several of the side-mission requirements are not very obvious.

Thanks for "poking around" a bit more... with rounding I could be missing up to 3 sides then (if the game automatically rounds down-- I can't remember if the GTAs all do that--or it its just a 99% thing????)

I did get a few hints-- when asking about increasing health-- was pointed at the respective things that bump that up (although not their locations-- but knowing the names make their locations pretty easy to find-- both took me only a few minutes when actually looking for them)... I may have found those without help but had driven past both of them alot of times without seeing them... will never know....

I also looked up what was required to "pass" the salesman missions-- it seemed like both were taking a long time to pass-- I rationalized this in that I found them on my own and would have passed them both eventually.

//edit//

Found 2 more packages (80 now) and my % stayed at 87%--- so I think I still do have 3 more sides....

Got another jump and it went to 88% :)

Did a hard search of the southern 1/2 of SI-- I think its clean of any more hidden stuff---

Spuds725

Well, that was unexpected. I've been figuring the packages independantly from the other 90%.

I'm a little closer on the math now, but have some interesting results that will need to be confirmed to be believed. My current mission count is 160, but only 154 seem to contribute toward 90%. So each mission is now estimated at 90/154, 0.584415584415584%. I'll fill in some of the details later, but for now I don't think it would be much of a spoiler to mention that the 6 missions that do not appear to contribute toward 100% completion are:
Taxi
Paramedic
Firefighter
Vigilante
Punk Noodles
Pizza Boy

This surpizing conclusion is based on the math of what I know counts as a mission. One more mission and I should have a 30.974% save which should allow me to detect any small contribution the driving missions or individual packages would make. But I guess the true test would require completing everything else in an actual game.

Edit: Nevermind, this is all wrong. Keep reading for more accurate information.

Grrr.

I tried the taxi missions a couple of weeks ago and it's not like it is in the other GTA games. I started in Staunton like I usually do in GTA3 because it's the best place, but after 10 missions I got a pickup in Shoreside Vale! I thought maybe it switched island every 10 pickups or so but after 22 missions I failed because my taxi exploded because I ran out of time and tried to take a shortcut by stunting by the hideout over to the dam (what was a unique stunt in GTA3) and I landed upside down and killed my taxi and passenger.

Still, I've got 22 taxi missions done so I'll just do them in batches of 10 or 20 and make up the 100.

KM.

I did all 100 in a row on the first try in portland. :P
I love how you can go as fast as possible, and the marker stops your car for you. :)

No worries on the R3s-- all are done-- the taxi thing surprised me too... I usually did them 10 or 20 at a time-- SSV is a pain-- especially with the cartel shooting at you with their more damaging weapons...

Back to my % thing... I think your math was right just that the game rounds down no matter what so I likely had 87.05 with 3 missions and my other side stuff... the packages reaching 80 gave me 87.64 (rounded down to 87%)....

THe jump took me to 88.225%.... (88%)

Since then I've gotten 6 more packages (still at 88%) and another jump (still at 88%)-- likely I now have 88.81% now (rounded down to 88%)-- I think your math is still good.

I now believe I got every hidden thing on SI-- I went over the entire island block by block with a fine tooth comb and I think I got in every parked vehicle too... I'm done looking on SI anyway....

Portland is next-- but likely not for a few days... gotta work..

The math is close, but still needs revision. Vigilante and Noodles both contribute toward 100% as expected for other missions, so I suspect the other R3 missions will too. In order to accomodate 160 missions I changed the estimated mission percentage to 93.5%. This leaves only 6.5% for packages - I'll need to collect more than just the first 10 packages to learn more. In the meantime, the fraction for 93.5%/160 is 0.584375%, a considerably more well rounded number.

Per Mission Percentage for GTA: Liberty City Stories

+70 Story Missions
+44 Side Missions and Races
+10 Sets of 10 Packages
+20 Rampages
+26 Unique Jumps
+01 All Jumps Completed
=171 Missions

1/171=0.584795321637427%

I'm pretty confident about these numbers. They hold true for all of the saves I tested, the incremental progress of all of my tests, and the "Status Check" percentages offered by btaylorstl's 100% Completion Walkthrough at GameFAQs.com. To confirm the double mission % for the last jump, I progressed a game to 25 of 26 jumps and enough missions, packages and rampages to reach the second 61%, then completed the last jump to skip past the single 62% score all the way to 63%.

bcks
Thats werid the last jump counts as 2 things complete.
Yes, very weird. It took me a long time to track down, but I was sure there was an extra mission somewhere, Once I had made package collections from 0-90 on a 30.97% gamesave, and 0-70 on a 0% new game (didn't finish the 1st mission - no wanted level, btw), I was convinced that package sets of 10 were worth the same and any other mission. The math implied an addition mission in order to get the % breakdown to match observations. 100% divided by the 170 known missions was too small, but 1 more mission worked out perfectly.

So I plugged "Missing Mission" into the spreadsheet and went to work on tracking it down. The missing mission wasn't on our mid-48% Home Sweet Home saves, but was on my Driving Mr Leone save with everything done except earning the Landstalker, 1 package, and the rest of the story missions. btaylorstl's FAQ game me a mid-75% score to rule out everything through Staunton Island. This kept pointing me in the direction of Shoreside Vale and the missions I could not complete without doing story missions.

I'd like to say I'd reasoned it out, but the truth of the matter is that I eliminated every else first. Almost every side mission, race, jump, and rampage was tested before I narrowed it down to the jumps. The only save I had without the missing mission was Driving Mr Leone with only 13 jumps completed, so I was putting that off until last.

I'll provide a more detailed list after Spudz stops protesting spoilers, but most of the 100% FAQs are fairly accurate. If you want to make your own list, these details should help you out when referencing game data or FAQs.

Prologue - is the 1st mission, it unlocks the hideout.
Knock Knock is not a mission.
70 Story Missions total - count backwards if necessary.

All 100 side missions, races, packages, rampages, and unique jumps specifiied in most FAQs are required. Some notes are;

Races with 1, 2, and 3 lap versions only count the first race.
Bump and Grind races 1 - 10 each count as separate races.
All multi-part side missions score as single missions when completed (implied).
Packages are scored as missions in sets of 10.
Rampages are scored as single missions.
The last Unique Jump scores double.

The Missing Mission cell has been renamed to All Jumps Completed to hold a spot for the percentage rather mess with the math for the last jump. I consider it a side mission, but want to sort it as the 27th jump. However, to make sure it gets scored I'm listing it as an Extra Mission thrown in to even out their math, or to confuse our record keeping.

Definition: Now that can predict all possible percentages during a game, it is easy to describe them as low-x% (one more mission won't change the number), high-x% (next mission will increment), and mid-x% (only one score possible with this percentage).

Spoil away -- either in a new thread or give a spoiler warning in your post so I don't read it--- I'll hopefully be ready to "finish up" in another day or 2 anyway--- still need to do my detailed searches on Portland and SSV. Depends on my kids the next few days-- will they let me play or not???

LCS 0% to 100% Spreadsheet

Yeah, well... It's not like anyone is anxious for a mission list. However, attached is an Excel spreadsheet with a complete mission list and a Done column that should calculate the current game % based on any cell that isn't empty.

I bet that sheet contains spoilers ;) ( thanks for posting it though)

Now at 22/26 jumps, 87/100 packages, 17/20 rampages-- 91%

I'm sure I'm missing a few things besides the above---

I'm about 2/3 done with my hard target search of portland-- as I suspected a couple of the jumps I'd done before and either did not complete them or reloaded over completed ones...

I figure another 2 more hours of looking before I give up.. would like to get 90 packages and beat my III record of 89

Well, I got you at 4 or 5 missing missions. Considering the not-so-obvious requirements of some of the missions, I'd say that is pretty damn good.

I have a feeling I'm gonna be pissed when I find out what I couldn't find (when I see it staring me in the face)--

I'm up to 52 hours of play time now--- although some of that was my kid playing around.

//edit//

Found another side misssion on Portland-- now 92%

Another rampage on portland-- still 92% (18/20)

And another hidden package.... (88/100)

Made a little more progress today...

Found 2 more jumps (24/26)

Found 2 more packages (90/100)-- yeah rocket launcher...

Still 18/20 rampages---

Found one more side mission on SSV (but haven't passed it yet-- had to quit right after I found it)--

Sitting at 94% now....

I figure another hour on SSV and then I'm going back to SI and check all the parked vehicles again (and see if anything starts)....

I've reached all my goals I set for myself (goals were 90 packages and 75% of the rampages and jumps)....

Alright, then. I just updated my spreadsheet with your name on it. I've got a good guess which missions might be missing. Can I give you a hint yet? Just a small one that's more related to how things are scored rather than naming a specific mission?

I really don't want any type of hint that will determine what I have left-- I will say that I believe there are 2 vehicle sides left for me just based on what I've done--- so if its related to that then I guess it would be ok.

I did do the side I found-- 95%

I will go ahead and tell you the vehicle sides I've done up to now-- so anyone avoiding spoilers this is your warning...

Spoiler warning--- (BELOW)

I've done---

Wong side of the tracks
Machine gun mahem
Scooter shooter
AWOL Angel (I think thats the name)
Trash dash on all 3 islands
Taxi
Paramedic
Vigilante
Car and bike salesman
Pizza boy
Noodle boy
6 street races (2 per island)
4 Toyz in the hood vans
all 10 bumbs and grinds courses
(I think that is a complete list)

I'm betting I have a couple of more shooting motorcycle sides (a PCJ and Sanchez one since I've done one on each of the other bikes)

Beyond that I think I'm done with sides (or at least done looking)

Ah, well. You must have left off a few sides from your list if you have 95%. Anyway, here's my scoring tip... Unlike other GTA games, some of the side misssions unlocked during story missions must be repeated to count as completed.

my list was of vehicle sides-- I think its complete--- (I forgot about the "see the sites side")-- maybe I forgot more???

Unlike other GTA games

The rifle range in VC is the exception to that.

hmmm-- only one task comes to mind to repeat--although if I think about it maybe some others will....

I'm gonna finish looking for what I think is left before I act on that hint---

//edit//

Ok... I finished checking SSV, went back to SI got in a boat and found a couple more packages-- 92 now..... I went back to SI and checked out all the parking lots again... I really didn't have the ambition to do another hard target search or SI.... I gotta work a few days-- will see if I want to check SI again the next time I play....I think I might be done.... @ 95%

Regarding Vehicle sides (SPOILER WARNING BELOW)

I forgot I have also done:
Go Go Faggio & Karmageddon...

Ok.. I gave up....95%-- missing 2 jumps, 2 rampages, 8 packages...

Spoiler warning...

I checked a guide and found I was missing slash TV-- which is what I guessed I was missing after the hint from Orion.. odd that you have to do it twice.... which I did (fried me some chicken with some molotovs)-- this left me still at 95%

I looked at a jump and rampage guide... found one of the rampages I was missing was one I'd done before and must have reloaded over.... the other one was on Portland (behind the wall in chinatown/redlight district area...was hard to find when even looking in that area).

Missing 2 jumps... the one heading north under calahan bridge-- I know I tried that one before but must not have had enough speed to trigger it...

The other was on SI-- along the water on the east side of Fort Staunton heading north...

All of this stuff has given me 98%-- I redid Carmageddon 2 more times (read that this must be done twice, wasn't sure if it was to be done outside the mission twice) still 98%....

I don't think the last 8 packages will give me that 2%

Is there any other odd ball requirements that anyone can think of?? I'm reasonably certain I have everything done-- will recheck closer tomorrow...

The short list of what you haven't mentioned completing is: Scrapyard Challenge, Firefighter, and Love Media Garage.

Requirements
RC Races - 2 & 3 lap races are optional.
See the Sights - 12 Levels, earns BP Landstalker
Bike Sale - 40
Car Sales - Level 6
Karmageddon - Once outside of Story Mission (need better time? (wild guess))
Slash TV - once outside of the mission for %, again for the outfit (so I hear)
Scrapyard Challenge - 4x and 8x junk value won't save, doesn't matter for %
Trash Dash - $2000 (P) + $3000 (SI) + $4000 (SSV) = $9000
Vigilante (Noodles, Pizza have asset $) - Plus next to health and armor is same size

I guess most of these things are easiest to check against the stats. People are always complaining about a 99% glitch, but most people tend to suspect that something must have been forgotten. However, one person reported earning the 100% bonus before finishing the final mission. This has made me a little more suspicious about % glitches.

Is it worth a purchase? Does it have racing records?

why should i get it instead of just playing SA?

Is it worth a purchase? Does it have racing records?

why should i get it instead of just playing SA?

yes, yes (6 street races 3 bike, 3 car)

It has a decent story (tells how Tony becomes Salvatores right hand man-- takes place a few years before III)-- lots of pretty good side stuff-- I like "avenging angel" very similar to vigilante-- however it is more of "vigilante"-- no cop car required. They took some of the improvements from VC and SA (from SA they added news reports to the radio that report what you have done like SA)

There is a dirt bike track with 10 different courses (3 laps each) against the clock-- completing unlocks a faster dirt bike (the Manchez)

If you liked III you should like this game-- I love bikes in LC--- the stunting abilities of the bikes (spins mainly) feel different from VC and SA--- feels in between the two....

The city is almost the same-- some areas are alot different, but most is the same....

You will miss some of CJs abilities-- swimming, no crouching or stealth-- weapons are similar to VC (weapon classes-- 1 of each)--

Note there are no helis or a dodo in the game-- so if you want to fly -- look up Orions vid in this thread-- you can steal a maverick during a mission when you get to SI and save it in your garage... you will have to use one cheat code.

I've done all the stuff you mentioned Orion (and did improve my time)-- I was asking for more obscure requirements-- (2 times for Slash TV)... I'll go through my stats with a guide again and look and collect the rest of my packages before asking for any more guidance....

thanks anyway.

Got 100% finally--- and went on a rocket launcher rampage (I like not running out)

The last thing I was missing was getting greater then 21 on the scrap yard challenge (took me looking at a few guides before I found one that actually said the score you needed)... I thought I'd passed it but am quite sure I hadn't before.

Was missing 4 packages on portland, 2 each on SI and SSV...

I just got this game afew weeks ago... and I do have to say its really good..... its the kind of back to basics GTA which can be a breath of fresh air from the huge epic story lines as seen in SA..... it really could provide you with abit of entertainment till the next GTA comes out..... judging by LCS's success I really hope GTA VCS will be released on PS2 after PSP aswell... I really thought that was by far the best GTA...... Its worth the money!
