Following Super Aguri’s demise, Honda may soon have another satellite formula one team up and racing. Reports from Portugal claim that Ken Anderson, a well-known US engineer who has worked in prominent F1 roles, is in promising talks about setting up an American outfit.

The reports said that while nothing is guaranteed, the Honda-powered team could be ready to debut as soon as 2009.

Anderson was reportedly a Honda guest throughout the recent Montreal race weekend, meeting with team chiefs Ross Brawn and Nick Fry.

None of the parties wanted to comment, but sources close to Honda have apparently said that the Japanese manufacturer is ready to sell engines, gearboxes and KERS systems to the new team.

Anderson is said to be meeting with F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone in London this week.

The US outfit would be assisted by Honda’s North American arm, as well as several backers from within the US, while Takuma Sato is favourite for the lead cockpit.

Portugal’s Alvaro Parente, who made his F1 test debut in January as a prize for winning the 2007 World Series by Renault, was mentioned as a possibility for the other seat.

The reports said Anderson’s F1 team could be announced officially in mid-summer. (GMM)

this is going to be an instant hit for American and Japanese F1 fans 👍👍👍 but im not too sure why honda is doing this so soon after super aguri's demise. its like they cut them off on purpose to make room for this team

While an American team would be great for F1 fans here in the States, it will take an American driver on the team to get any interest from casual fans or the media.

Well, maybe Mr. Anderson has more money in the bank than Mr. Aguri did. ;) But seriously, its a stupid idea that they are going to compete so early like this. Even Prodrive had trouble setting up a car from 2007, and even until now they don't even have an engine supplier. :grumpy: So either they are talking out of their 🤬 or they are really too hopeful. But I'm not saying they shouldn't cause F1 really need teams to fill up the grid as well as seeing Sato performing as well...... :D

Surely Prodrive could use its connections with Aston Martin to secure an engine? I thought the original rumour was that the Prodrive team were intending to race under the Aston Martin name anyway?
I thought Prodrive's problem is with the Concorde Agreement, which is apparently meant to be re-newed sometime soon, this is why they are not going forward just yet with their F1 plans.

Heh, anyway, F1 could use some more newbie teams, it increases the drama a bit. Although, hopefully not like the 90s, of course I want the new teams to be somewhat competitive unlike Mastercard-Lola and the like.

I was under the impression that the Prodrive thing fell apart because they were basically going to be a McLaren B team, similar to Torro Rosso or Super Aguri, and there was no point going through with it because of the no customer car rule change?

You are quite right. No customer cars = no Prodrive in F1. And looking at all other undertakes that Prodrive have been setting about (GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4, LMP1, WRC) they are not very likely to go to F1 at all. Not in the foreseeable future anyway.

It is nice though, to see an American effort. If it does have some , or even just a minute, degree of success, maybe we can see an American manufacturer step in in the future.

Audi should sign up! We could see if they could equal their success in Le Mans.

An American team that uses Honda engines with Japanese and Portugese drivers

?????

As for Scott Speed, what's so great about him? He never raced at any top level American Motorsport until after his career in F1. That's why nobody in America or elsewhere cared about him.

Throw a well known American driver into the car, like Kyle Busch, Marco Andretti or Danica Patrick and you will get attention.

But just calling a team American when Americans can't or won't identify with it won't work to capture interest in the states.

And lets face it, F1 comes on 5am in the mourning in the US or even at times 1am. How will they overcome that? And you have to have speedTV. Local channels only cover 2 or 3 races a year.

indy car, force india, williams, ext. examples on why this shouldn't be a shock to anyone

nobody in the world cares about him except his nascar fans.

i doubt this team is built for attention but American media will take notice

speed replays the entire race at around noon-4pm on the day of the GP

its the same with ALMS and other domestic touring/prototype races

He was also a driver of little consequence and left early after mouthing off at David Coulthard...

I wouldn't imagine that Americans would think too much about F1 even with an American team, given the nature of Formula One races to start. Even NASCAR has more intimate action with the cars out there.

Why would anyone care about Scott Speed before F1 indeed? He is 25 now - so two years ago, when he made his debut, he was 23. Not very surprising he didn't race other top-level motorsports before, considering even Formula 1 drivers usually enter the sport at 20+. Unless you expect him to race Indycars and Busch at the age of 16?

I thought an argument with Toro Rosso's manager after the Nurburgring GP last year was the cause?

Both! He shot from the hip at Coulthard in 2006, then verbally abused his team in 2007. Is HE representative of what America can do internationally in motorsports?

I wish. But Bernie Wuld have none of it; he's been quoted as saying a woman's place is the kitchen and that F1 will never have woman drivers.

At the moment she would'nt even qualify for a Superlicence.

My guess for a name would have been 'Acura' if Honda America are going to be involved in the chassis design.

Bernie only said that about women in F1 because Max gets all excited about women in restrictive clothing.
