I should post these here as well. Finally saw one on the road and I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be, the car didn't sound like it should and the drive gave it a healthy dose of the right pedal too. The rims are still awesome looking though and it doesn't look overly goofy as I thought it would, I just wish it sounded better.

There is the link to the video of the 7'26.4 lap at the 'Ring. Personally, I spot one place that could have saved maybe a half second, the driver loses the tail and powerslides through a corner at about 65.

It shows 3 things to me:
That car could go much faster yet
GT5 makes RWD cars unrealistically taily
GM are in such financial trouble they can't even afford a high quality video.

Interesting link that I'm sure will re-ignite the GT-R vs Vette crap, even though that's not my intention with this. After I first watched the new ZR1 vid, I noticed they stopped the timer earlier on the track than when it had started, so it's nice to see a video that has synched both of them up with the same start time. Yes, the ZR1 is faster, but trying to pause the video at the same spots (roughly, where the Vette ends the rumble strip), the time looks more like 7:28 for the Vette, and 7:30 for the GT-R. Still highly impressive, I'm just interested in making comparisons as like-for-like as possible. The timer starts roughly where it would in Gran Turismo (heh), but I do understand why a complete circuit isn't the best idea for timing purposes.

Awesome nonetheless, interesting to see the two side-by-side!

My opinion of the ZR1 video for the most part is that I do wonder what the use of a dual-clutch box would do for the car. More often than not, it seems like the car is in the wrong gear, or the driver can't shift when he should, which could hurt lap times. That being said, I can't imagine it being that much of a change either.

Nevertheless, the Corvette looks like it is "well-sorted" over most of the track, but certainly, you can see where the shortfalls of an FR setup with more than 600 BHP come into play (one recalls the slide before reaching the final turn to the straightaway). We've already seen that the Z06 and GT-R play on a fairly even level, and I'm pretty sure that we'll see the same with the ZR1 and the V-Spec.

I'm willing to bet that his point wasn't that at all, instead to indicate that Mero is not just an engineer but also a racing driver. At least that's how I understand it. The conclusion being that the ZR1 is hard to handle even for a very skilled man behind the wheel.

It's 600 horsepower. It's meant to be respected and given effort to control. It's not a sterile car that does the driving for the person holding the steering wheel. Monster Vette means exactly that. It's a beast. Respect the beast, or it may eat you and spit your shoes out on hella-licht.

That's my .04 (still nearly worthless, like the real thing)

Quite right. We all saw the ZR1 powerslide a time or two on the track, its just the nature of the layout and the power that's going out of the rear wheels. That is, of course, what makes it fun... But also limits it to a greater extent as well.

Which makes me wonder: If Chevrolet would have went the SRT-10 ACR way (crazy aerodynamics, weight cuts, etc), how much faster would the ZR1 have been? Furthermore, could they even call it the ZR1 at all?

It would have been a C6R, yes? Although that would have been quite cool to see, especially in a show down between the two.

It was probably the ZR1 proto, the one that got the name "Blue Devil" mentioned in the thread title. But about going ACR style, I think it should have been done. As they were going to make the car damn fast anyway why not go right to the limits instead of trying to make a cross between a grand tourer and a supercar? It would be good for the image too, give people a Le Mans racer for the street and take advantage of the track success.

Didn't Chevy release C6 Gran Sport some time ago? atleast it had similar paintjob.. :odd:

I seem to remember a C5 Le Mans edition with the red, white and silver stripes.

As for the ACR idea...Nah, I'm not really crazy about that, for some reason. This is the Corvette from Hell, or at least from the Tuner from Hell. It's not meant to be a race car, rather, a very, very fast road car. I think I've made enough Wangan MidNight references with this car. It's always gonna be the American Devil Z to me.

And I want one in Midnight Blue.

That being said, I wouldn't mind a Club racing edition with this engine.

You're thinking of the Z06 Ron Fellows Edition:

There has also been the 427 Edition:

There have also been a few variants of the regular Z51 C6 that has been sold in Europe (the Victory Edition) and in Japan (I forget the name).

Who Doesn't Love a Little Hoonage Now and Then?

That has to be one of the most epic burnouts in a car of that speed class, ever. I'm not 'feeling' the exhaust note all that well, but I'm guessing it sounds much better in person.

"I want to play on the Wangan with Porsches!"

I actually like it the noise, quite edgy. It probably sounds much better in person, though it could rev a little more...but what would be the point?

I love the sound, it's almost a bit like a V8 Supercar, it's a very high performance V8 sound. That was done in the GM proving grounds by one of the engineers too I think, no hooning here.

I think that means you're the first one of us to see one in person, congrats!

Yeah dude, i freaked out! i was like "wtf is that real?" and my gf happen to have a camera with her at the time so she immediately took some pics :) i only saw it for about couple minutes before the guy hopped in and took off :( i wanted to ask him so many questions.
