6162cc OHV 16-valve V-8

lol i bet its an engine from the 70's with aloooot of plastic crap on it and a "new" electronic fuel injection system..

:P

Actually it's a pretty advanced engine. All aluminum, and it has variable valve timing, (yet is still of the overhead valve variety, a first of its kind).

Actually, the basic design dates back to 1997; and it is almost certainly a considerably lighter engine than, for example, the VK50VE that is in the Infiniti FX50. Sarcasm Fail.

Im not comparing the weight.. just the outdated technology of that engine (beside the vvt) when most modern car manufactures have been using doch and 4 valve/cyl since the late 80's

Most modern manufactures have been, including GM.
DOHC 32v Northstar V8? They may be outdated engines because they don't have all kinds of letters and numbers mixed together on the dealer pamphlet. They are however highly reliable, refined engines, which produce lot's of power in a relatively small and light package. Today you can have a 7.5+L small block that on the outside is no bigger than a 5.3L, they aren't tired lazy motors like they used to be. There not even gas guzzlers, unless of course they are moving battleships like this Escalade in question, which it does quite well for it weighing more than the moon.

Are there other ways to make power? Yeah, of course. There is nothing wrong with making it that way, but the only thing this line of engines has wrong is carry on what works.

It was at one point a cool vehicle. Once rappers and trophy wives got hold of it it became so uncool I can't begin to fathom it. They started sticking giant rims under it and large unnecessary things inside of it(You don't need a giant subwoofer and 7 screens in a car.

@ Joey, lighten up dude. People vote what they think. Isn't that the point of this whole cool wall? If I remember right you wanted to do it because it would "bring discussion to the board"(or something like that) and it has done that. If everyone used the same methods to vote something cool, everyone would vote the same thus there would be no discussion.

Gotcha, so by bringing discussion to the boards I need to keep my opinions to myself. Will do, carry on then.

Nope, however you seemingly always try and tell people how to vote.

I don't, but go ahead and think what you like. I'm tired of actually arguing this crap, so I'll cease.

It's a Made-For-City SUV...

UNCOOl

It's a Made-For-City SUV that typically appeals to inner urban punks that listen to (c)rap music and Dip Hop.

SERIOUSLY UNCOOL

Escalades are a symbol of hood-rich, if you know what I mean. Seriously uncool.

They're popular, yes. Are they cool? No.

Britany Spears is somewhat popular, but I don't think she's cool.

Steam punk isn't popular, but I find it awesomely cool.

Something has to be extremely cool to be popular and cool in my eyes. This isn't it.

Joey is expressing his opinion, and urging others to take heed.

This is a debate thread for the cool wall, and he has every right to do so.

Still, sorry, Joey, had to vote seriously uncool.

I've ridden a late-model Escalade, and while it was nice and comfortable, the fact that it's a rebadged Tahoe with a tarted up interior and a big engine doesn't change the fact that it's a rebadged Tahoe. Refinement isn't exactly the Escalade's strong point, and the trim can get kind of rattly over time... not what you want from an extremely pricey truck.

The later models have made it ride more decently, and the plastics are improving, yes, but it's the same argument against buying any Volvo sedan or hatchback (in Europe and Asia... not in the US)... why buy something so pricey when you can get basically the same thing with a Ford nameplate (and sometimes, a Mazda nameplate) for much less?

Or contrawise, when you can buy something that exudes a real premium feel not only in material quality but in build quality for the same price?

A Tahoe or an Expedition would be a much more sensible choice (sensible as any V8 truck can get) over an Escalade or Navigator (yes, I like the Expedition better than the Navigator, too... having driven a Nav versus the same generation Expy, I just don't see the point).

A Tahoe would get a neutral vote from me. An Expy would probably be borderline cool. Their overpriced siblings? They won't get nuthin'.

At the end of a day it's named after a time-zone. Says it all. Seriously, seriously uncool.

I've ridden a late-model Escalade, and while it was nice and comfortable,

I've driven and ridden in a 2004 Escalade and while in the back It wasn't so comfortable to me, being 6'3 my knees were pushing into the front seat and the seats seemed a little harder than the older Suburbans I was used to.

I will say having driven many Cadillac in the US and imported ones here, I am a fan of Cadillac but I still voted Uncool for the Escalade.

Seriously uncool. Pointless waste of money. Save some money and get a regular Tahoe if you want a large GM SUV.

Maybe because the foam still had some life left? :D

Can't relate. All of 5'4.75" here...

Nice and comfortable being relative... it was nice and comfortable compared to a sedan, compared to the humongosity that is a Suburban or an Excursion, it's about average.

Well, just a little (dealer tag on it and exhaust was still burning off) :P

I find Cadillac Sedans to be more comfortable, especially in the back.

I'm defying a personal rule for GM vehicles by voting Uncool. Why? I've never really understood the point of the Escalade, despite the fact of liking it when inside one. I mean, you can grab the arguably better-looking GMC Yukon Denali for less cash and get essentially identical performance and street cred.

Would this have been a Chevrolet Tahoe, I'd be tempted to vote differently.

Has absolutely nothing going for it at all. Almost makes an H2 look cool. Seriously Uncool

Although I love them, drug dealers aren't cool. Either is every balla', playa and hip gangsta wanna-be driving these things. I'm pretty sure you could make a 10 disc volume of songs made about or overly talk about these things by almost every rapper in the last 10 years making them so played out I don't even turn my head at a stop light to look at one at a stand still but with rims that keep on spinning.

Seriously Uncool.

Where do I start....

The badge seems as good a place as any, its a Cadillac, a brand that I cant think of a single good thing about, and would have been very happy if the GM bankruptcy had killed them for good! - Seriously uncool

Its a car thats only driven by rappers and drug dealers - Seriously uncool

Its ugly - uncool

Its a big 4x4 thats not a Landrover - Seriously Uncool

I could go on but its such a dull car I really cant be bothered. End result a vote for Seriously Uncool!

*Insert joke about British automobile industry*

What automobile industry? :sly:

See, our ability to self-deprecate beats your ability to imply we're useless. Have at ye!

Anyway, we still make the best GTs (Aston Martin), 4x4s (Land Rover), superminis (MINI) and sports cars (Lotus) in the world in this country, even if the money is coming from elsewhere...

And before anyone gets too riled by this post, let's just say you'd best grasp a little sodium chloride between your index finger and thumb...
