LONG POST WARNING
-> Went to this Gamestop location 2 hours ago:
-1300 W. Sunset Rd., Suite 2429, Henderson,
NV. Gamestop.
Google maps. (unconfirmed)
^ This Gamestop location is located inside the Galleria Mall right across from Sunset Station Hotel and Casino along Sunset Road. The place is located near the food court inside the mall (see pic).
Story-> After work, I headed down here to confirm if it really was true that there is a genuine demo. After 3 weeks of searching all over town, I've finally played GT5 (demo). Apologies for these pics, as I took them on my Samsung Captivate using one hand and uploaded them directly on my Facebook. I played GT5D for about a good 30 solid minutes.
^ Luckily, no one was playing at the kiosk. Everyone was stuck at the XBox 360 kiosk playing MMA. So I jumped right in!!!
Graphics-> The usual GT tradition, simply jaw-dropping. The graphics is seemingly crisper compared to GT5P and GT5TA. There is a certain awe every scene it changes. Although, it was a tad too sharp IMO as if like GT4 in 1080i it didn't had that soft tones similar to GT5P that were easier on my eyes (I wasn't wearing my Gunnar Optiks glasses at the time).
Menu-> It was pretty straight forward in a traditional demo standpoint. It was self-explainatory as some of the menus were not operational.
Gameplay Pt.1-> The first car I used was the SLS with pro-physics, no aids, no TCS, no driving lines, on N2 tires on all sides in
Nuovo Rome Circuit. I did a time attack run to get a grasp of the game first. Sorry I was unable to take any gameplay pics because of sheer excitement.
-> As I start the game, the tires had no traction on 2nd gear forcing me to go to 3rd quite hastly. Physics-wise, the SLS handled great despite with its lack of traction but I managed performing short exit drifts on the whole course. The weight transition between angles were slow but otherwise spot on.
-> The damage was up to par within real life standards whenever I hit the walls. But there was a glitch while I was stuck on the wall, the back swayed like a guy in a hammock enjoying his lemonade. To those damage jarheads this may be disturbing. But to me? Who cares.
-> As for the
Nuovo Rome Circuit itself; I found it a bit boring, unexciting, and shorter than I expected. Compared to Rome '90s,
Nuovo lacked almost everything that the '90s we know and loved. The only thing that the
Nuovo and '90s had in common (beside on some track layouts) was its blind corners. I hit the walls twice within its 2:30 min limit.
Gameplay Pt.2-> I tried a different approach compared to the rest of the guys. At the Toscana Track, I used a GT-R Spec-V (sorry, no pics on this one). Again, pro-physics, no TCS, and no driving lines. The GT-R handled as a GT-R should be, big, heavy and a nasty kick on higher revs. But overall experience was challenging and somewhat fun, I had experience driving fast on loose gravel on my ex-car the WRX.
-> The Toscana track was a tight course for a simple rally track similar to Grand Canyon without the length. The thing that suprises me was the track surface! The gravel dynamics was similar to the gravel road I did in real life!!! Amazing, no more figure skating on a rally car! Plus, the day/night transition was the scary part. Seeing night at the Toscana track was similar to driving in a farmland in Utah, the (very) limited visibility turned a completely adequate track into a short track nightmare! As if you entered Silent Hill while trying to escape from Racoon City!
Gameplay Pt.3-> So, somewhat confident on my measly skills on GT5D. I tried a knack on a single race using NASCAR Sprint Cup vehicles. I chose the easiest difficulty setting (C) [I know, I'm lame], at Indy Oval. I forgot to switch off the driving line, but there was no TCS, on Pro-physics using default R2 tires. Using Jeff Gordons Impala, we had a rolling start. At the first two corners I screwed up by grinding against the wall, but the rest was a breeze.
-> Damn, these 'stock cars' grip like there is no end! On the upside, these cars were predictable as they shudder indicating the loss of traction. Overall enviroment was tight, tactical drafting was essential. Slipstreaming/Drafting was less effective compared to GT4 & GT5P, but it was evidantly evident still but not quite real life, yet.
Gameplay Pt.4-> After getting some confidence in GT5D, I was confident enough to go to Nurbie-Ring in an 458 Italia. With its toughest difficulty setting (A):
-> I configured the 458 with Pro-physics, no TCS, no driving line, using default S2 tires. The Italia was a frisky fellow, and I already thought that the 599 GTB in GT5P was nervous. A very hard car to handle at limit, the SLS was a very confy sofa compared to the 458.
^ The outcome was a failure (on my part). But
there was something wrong, while I was trying to race, the road dissapeared only showing the tracks backdrop and the cars were floating. Lucky me, I sorta memorized the track to follow my race line, but it didn't last as I went off course as a result.
-> The profile of the updated Nurbie-Ring was a completely different sensation. Nurbie was significantly tougher compared to GT4. As if the track got tighter, narrower, and a lot more challenging!
Gameplay Pt.5-> With that disapointing run, I scaled back and went another Single Race. This time on R246 on a C3 Corvette with Medium difficulty setting (B):
-> The Vette was set the same as the cars above. But the car was very predictable witha hint of understeer before the controlled oversteer. My only gripe was there wasn't enough gears (up to 4th gear) to keep pace with everyone else.
-> R246 wasn't much of a surprise compared to GT4 except with its increased visuals stunning-ness. So there is not much to say here.
Gameplay Pt.6-> Before the manager gets angry at me for hogging the kiosk too much, I did one last run with the Corvette on Nurbie-Ring.
^ I did pretty good on this one, I did a clean run until time ran out.
A.I.-> Tough, as in like being online tough. These guys shows no mercy of passing you; inside, outside, late-braking, the works!!! Without even hitting you!!! GT5 will be a lot tougher (for me) to finish if the A.I. system are like this, trully staggering!
Final Thoughts-> GT5 is no mere 'driving simulator', its more of a 'driving experience'! People with a wheel and seat will have the greater advantage due to smoother transition of each vehicle that 'us' controller-using people will have a hard time to control. But even for a short stint with GT5D, I got a glimpse of GT5 has to offer me before November 2. I'm now glad that I pre-ordered the Collectors Edition 5 months ago! Good night, I'm tired!
