The bad and the ugly.

I am 100% sure that it was a little mistake or something like this
because if we watch the trailers or gameplay videos or pictures we see that night driving in GT 5 is amazing (especially the LeMan peugeot car on LeMans (night , i love it )
That is the reason why i think it was a mistake and that is the reason why you found only 3 pictures ...

I could send the same cars/pictures at night with awesome lights ...
little mistake , PD will solve it

Only three pics because I am very lazy. The cars bouncing between fully lit and completely dark happens all through the night replays. I doubt it will be fixed, as with the comical wheel spray (though the wheel spray effect would improve a whole lot if they simply removed it at low speed, hope they do).

There are a great many amazing aspects of GT5. It is shaping up to be an incredible driving experience. But it is a flawed masterpiece. Among the countless threads detailing all that is special about GT5, this thread is about its flaws.

The rain effect. Amazing at first glance, just don't focus on the tyres. The spray acts in a strange fashion and very low resolution effects are used. Next time you see a rain racing video, watch the wheels of cars closely.

Night replays. In inside the car night driving is again, amazing. Watch the replay however and you see that only a few cars surrounding the drivers car have working lights and those light do not correctly interact with other cars. Panels on any given car are either fully lit or dark and pop between the two states. It is very jarring to watch given the high polish on display elsewhere.

See these three pics for one of the stange replay lighting effects. The car has only headlights visible, then its bright (with no external lights), then its dull, in a forth pic that I can find now it goes back to totally dark again like in the first pic.

Standard cars. The obvious flaw everyone knows about. Enough said.

Slowdown. There is no evidence of this apart from the word of KY, but I don't doubt it.

Feel free to add to this list, but don't post to flame. I am very excited about GT5, I really can't wait. I just think that negative aspects are just as valid to talking points as positive aspects.

Lol these are not flaws. But there is always room for improvement. I was not expecting weather but it is nice surprise. Head lights are good and only when close to camera they have to make sure it looks nice.

For me the paddle shift looks little weird and only good in some cars.

I think overall its pretty impressive what PD have pulled off with the capabilities of the PS3. There's going to be flaws because they are still limited on performance.

You guys probably think its sacrilegious to say this, but I wish GT5 came out for PC. Then if you had enough power you could turn on pretty headlight effects for every single car, you could have heaps more cars on the grid, you could use high resolution textures, set the LOD reduction to have little to no reduction of quality and you'd have the flexibility of being able to adjust your controllers/wheels through drivers like logitech profiler. All at 60fps and 1920x1080 or even 2560x1600 or 3 screens each set to 1920x1080.

I know its just a dream and GT5 is married to the PS3, but damn it could be so epic on PC with i5/i7 processors, 5870/GTX480 graphics cards and 6+gb of 1600MHz ram ;)

The only reason I'd want Gran Turismo on the PC is so I could re-skin my cars. I know it could be amazing, but it wouldn't feel right. The PS3 needs its family of games, especially exclusives, on PS3. MS isn't shy about allowing/doing ports of XBox games to PC, but Forza has never appeared on the computer either.

Sony never publishes any game on PC ( not sure ), PC already has tons of great Sims probably not with the level of production values GT5 has but still they are awesome.

And the PC-sims are getting closer and closer to the well done graphics in GT5. rFactor 2 to mention one. But it's not out yet. Don't forget that PD "cheats" in replays.

That's fine. I'm all for the PC sims "cheating" too, in fact I wish they would! But this is mostly an academic thing for me, because the PC sims are too cold, clinical and uninvolving for me, with a limited selection of cars. On top of that, those who say the sims A.I. is soo much better are either fibbing or they just haven't compared properly. Frankly, I find them to be as stupid as ever. And with the physics of the Time Trial demo being so close to that of the much lauded Live For Speed, I've lost interest in my PC sims long ago.

I might pick up rF2 after a while, but rF1 disappointed me with a bunch of fake content, only race cars, and it seemed like it had "spindle" physics car behavior. What's more, it had the WORST user interface I ever experienced! It took me digging through the manual to find out where they hid the auto/manual transmission option. I guess I should give it a peek, but to be honest, I'd much rather race the Standard cars in GT5 than play a "perfect" PC sim.

Got to update this with a complaint about the rain effect. Looks great inside the car, switch to bumper or roof cam and the rain disappears. I really wish they made the decision to put the effect into all views (ala F12010), not just in car.

In car if you look hard enough you can tell that the rain only exists on the windscreen, but the effect is good enough to suspend your disbelief. One flick to an outside viewpoint though and you can not unsee what you have seen :(

As always this is just nitpicking. But it is annoying since applying the effect to all views is something quite easily implemented and would not cost them processing power beyond what the incar view costs them.

Are you saying it's not really raining?
I haven't noticed to be honest. It only rains when your in cockpit view. That's rediculous.

I don't think that's just nitpicking. It's raining buckets in the cockpit view, then switching to chase cam/bumper the rain seems to vanish only leaving spray being thrown up by the tires.

Could it possibly be due to the way light hits the windshield, giving the effect that it isn't raining in other views?

The light hits the windshield definitely showing rain. The wipers are working as well.

I have noticed that, at least in the chase view, it doesn't necessarily appear to be raining. But, that could be the resolution of the video not giving enough detail in the game. Every couple seconds I swear I see a few drops fall in chase view but it's very hard to tell if it's my eyes deceiving me or it's really happening.

Cockpit view is great with the way the rain hits the windows and how the wipers work very well.

You can occasionally see rain falling in the chase view, and all the time in replay camera, it will be more obvious in high quality.
The cars don't look like they're being rained on, which doesn't help, and the cameras don't collect rain, but that's not so bad. Makes me wonder what the view from an open cockpit would look like though.

Well going from a huge downpour that looks like a monsoon in the cockpit view to a couple rain drops in the chase cam is a pretty drastic change. I didn't notice this at first so I went back to look, and the amount of rain changes significantly between cockpit and chase cam.

Because it's much easier to see it in the cockpit in blurry videos... Wait for a proper HD version.

This is definitely needed to properly judge the quality of the rain in game.

Has there been any HD video of the weather effects that aren't completely shown from cockpit view?

It is very evident in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJfHw9qmmko&feature=sub

Heaps of rain in car, a few drops on distant 'broadcast' shots, nothing visible on the roof or chase cams.

Erm, I see LOTS of rain falling in the distant shots, as well on the roof.

Keep in mind, IN REAL LIFE, it's extremely hard to view rain from a pulled back shot of a sports game, unless the rain is backlit. In most of the shots we see, there is no backlighting at all.

Yeah, couple of things to keep in mind people.

Firstly, the quality of this video is very poor, wait to see it with your own eyes.

Secondly, as quoted, when you see rain through a TV broadcast, it can be absolutely pouring down and barely look like it's raining.

I agree. In fact to me from what I can tell the rain will be just as realistic from a out-of-car perspective. Also, did anyone else notice how the rain that sprayed up from the tyres was blown sidewards by the wind? that was preety cool. I know this thread is about bad aspects but im a glass half full kinda guy :)
