Jeeez..some of you guys are picky, personally I'm not too fussed about minor imperfections!

So long as the game 'feels' right.

There has to be priorities, and the physics of spray behind the car as opposed to excessive understeer, grass like ice, power oversteer, precessional AI that sticks to the racing line like it's a set of rails..the list of 'actual' bad things I really hope they have made good on as promised.

[...]

We're not too "fussed" about imperfections. I know this game will be good anyway. We're just pointing what could be improved.

As for "grass like ice", I went to Youtube to see how a car handles on grass. I've found these videos:

And finally:

GT5 seems okay for me.

[...] also cars spark when rubbing each other [...]

It's not happening anymore in recent builds.

There's only one problem I have with GT5, and it's that I don't know if I can drive some of the cars I'd really love to drive. Other than that, you can't really guess the problems, I'm sure I'll have a small tick like maybe something's too close together and it goes too far and a click something wrong and it takes me a minute to back out (this happens in way too many games for me), but none of these things matter to me. I'm gonna love the game just for being GT. If it has a GT logo on it, I will love it. Case closed for me.

All games have flaws, and no doubt GT5 has them as well. For me, if the overall experience is positive I can overlook minor things. I'm more concerned about show stoppers.

The only reason the PS3 has a seperate graphics card in the first place is because lazy ass programmers were too, well, lazy to use the cell processor properly.

Some people in the know reckon it's actually better not to use the graphics card at all, because the cell processor is so much better at handeling graphics and everything else than the grapics card is, but it's not easy to do, so hardly anyone does.
Well, you can't blame the programmers for wanting an environment which has been the standard for gaming computing devices for decades. ;)

Remember the early talks about the PS3, and how Ken Kutaragi was thinking of having another Cell instead of a dedicated GPU? Just about everyone hated the idea, including the SONY PS3 coders themselves. They would have to have basically created a Cell API from scratch, or spend a lot of time and effort adapting one, while a GPU chip would have the support of fairly mature and more easily tweakable APIs such as OpenGL. With Microsoft slated to launch the 360 console earlier than PS3, SONY partner developers needed a system which was traditional and easy to get their heads around. Cell was tricky enough on its own, and no one could afford having a development time drawn out by six months to a year more, simply because of a dual CPU architecture vs a traditional CPU/GPU one. However, it seems that by sharing coding techniques among those having issues, pre-production videos of games in development looked to be on par with 360 games which had launched, even though the 360 GPU has a few advantages on paper.

And remember that partnering RSX with an SPU or two can work wonders, making the RSX much more powerful. Take the images we've seen in GT5. Does any PC game look that good? Heck, does reality look that good?? Okay, getting a little carried away there, but you get the idea. Many people can't tell the difference between GT5 replays and racing film. The semblance with real life is amazing. So I wouldn't say anything about the PS3 is horribly short sheeted, or anyone that doesn't want to break away from the traditional methods of rendering graphics as lazy.

Great thread nasanu, let's all focus on little and large negatives that we don't even know exist in the final code. Forget the fact that there are way more important positives...your glass is only ever half empty, right?

Wow, shows how little you know eh? Is that why the next generation of CPUs are going to have optimized graphics chips on the same piece of silicon with ultra fast bandwidth between them? PS3 has a separate GPU because that was the optimum design at the time. Cell alone was not enough, and if you think that programmers were lazy, how about considering the fact that SONY and IBM over-engineered the design as opposed to Microsoft who made an equally powerful machine with standard components?

I am 100% sure that it was a little mistake or something like this
because if we watch the trailers or gameplay videos or pictures we see that night driving in GT 5 is amazing (especially the LeMan peugeot car on LeMans (night , i love it )
That is the reason why i think it was a mistake and that is the reason why you found only 3 pictures ...

I could send the same cars/pictures at night with awesome lights ...
little mistake , PD will solve it

If GT was made on PC there would be no end to it because you can always upgrade it, that means PD would just endlessly add stuff.

The only thing that makes them to release the game, is that they are almost at PS3 limits (shore you can always optimize and squeeze more).

And if you ask me (I'm a PC gamer for many years) Its more fun to play on ps3 then it is on the PC (even is the game is lower res or something). Put in the disc, relax on the couch, Play on your big-ass TV.

Maybe I'm just a nostalgic, but consoles have that strange feeling/spirit from those times when I was a kid, laying on the floor in front of my TV, playing Contra :)

yes right it's much more fun on the PS3
and the reason why some games are not very good on the PS3 is that some game companies don't want to spend much time to "convert" the games for the PS3
that's the reason why GT5 has awesome graphics because it's made for PS3

I think in the premium cars, in the cockpit view, the steering whell (for example us or europe) should be on the left and not on the right, right? Even if ot is japanese cars it's supose to be on the left

Well....... I hope so, but I'm ready to see night racing with just some of the cars casting light around the track. That effect is about as processor taxing as particle rendering, and you know by now that the dust kicked up as you go off track fades pretty quickly.

The PS3 is shockingly powerful, but it can only do so many stupendous feats at once, and some Cell horsepower needs to be available for the rest of those amazing graphics and physics.

yes , we will se it after 23 days XD don't worry about that
I don't think PD will realase it with this "problem", as i said i think it was only a little mistake or something like this
and if they will realase it with this "problem" then i think they will update it very fast

The PS3 has much power , if the game doesn't work perfect (i don't think so and you will think so too after 23 days ) then PD has to take out more power from the PS3 ...
but we really don't need to worry about that

I think it should be where it is in the real car.
The trick there is that, most of the time, it can be on either side.

I drive a Japanese car IRL. Yes, the original Japanese version has the wheel on the right. But mine has it on the left.

I'd rather they made it "best of both worlds". On cars that are available in multiple regions, they should give us a choice of LHD or RHD. For cars that, in real life, ONLY come on one side or the other, those cars should be locked to whatever the real car has. That would allow us silly Americans to drive most of our cars with LHD, and we'd just be "stuck" on cars that are locked to RHD. Or, we'd have to pay out the a$$ to have it converted to LHD. Which can be done IRL, but it's expensive.

I'm surprised they didn't do something like this for GT5. It's not difficult at all to do the modeling. One guy could convert a car from LHD to RHD, or vice-versa, in a matter of hours, maybe less.

Tis a very good point, and would be a nice touch of detail. There is still hope too. :scared:

Wasn't this already in GTPSP, at least partially?
Many cars had JDM/USM duplicates with different names (in some cases) and small details.
The bad thing is that these very slightly different versions counted as additional cars.

I don't like how they completely skipped out on redesigning a new HUD for this game...Something about those gauges in first person mode really piss me off...maybe because they look like they're from a mid 90's Corvette.

Also, the cockpit views don't bother me much because i'll probably end up using the hood(roof?) view 95% of the time. However, they should've kept the standard cars in mind for people that do want interior views. My fix is actually easy beyond belief, and would've been a great novelty factor for the series. Instead of using generic gauges in first/3rd person, use the actual gauges that are in the car. Sure its not an interior view, but the RPM's are the only thing you should be looking at during a race :D

....but its too late for that, and we'll have to settle with ugly generic gauges and a high mounted roof cam on the standard cars.

The flaw of this game in my opinion is the horrible tuning system that makes it very arcade like. I was hoping it to include real life aftermarket vendors. To upgrade your car you pick either Level one, two, three, or four upgrade which I think sucks ass. Even Need For Speed Underground has the tuning system that I prefer.
I rather have a "Injen Cold Air Intake" then a "Level 3 Intake"
Why can't there be real life mods in the game because I'm sure I'm not going to the store and asking for a Level 3 upgrade. Sorry if this is confusing, I find it very hard to explain.

You know you have to pay licences when you put stuff in your game, so why spend money unnecessarily when you can have the exact same stuff without the brand name and save lots of money!

I believe what you are talking about is what Need for Speed Shift does with their gauges in bumper view they change from car to car.

Making gauges change depending on the car model isn't as simple as you think. Putting aside the fact that there are many different cars, instrument scale in GT changes depending on modifications performed to the car and settings. Making the instrument needle going over the maximum range might be ok for internal views, but wouldn't look right in the HUD in my opinion.

Branding Placebo. Id rather have a L3 GT5 mod than a brand name NFS mod, because simply GT is superior, so they wouldnt bother giving you 5 different brands if they didnt actually model the actual parts. Theyd need to give each part from each manufacturer different characteristics, more efficient-shorter life, type stuff...then you would only buy the best overall parts no matter what, so in the end you are STILL limiting yourself to one part(the best overall one) per mod(exhaust, trans etc).

It's funny how we simultaneously having people in this forum blaming shortcommings on the old and weak PS3 hardware right alongside people sure the game will be flawless due to the awesome power fo the PS3...

Well, that's because we have Polyphony delivering such unbelievable content in one game. Prior to E3, we had some people wondering if we would have damage or weather, skidmarks, reverse lights, working wipers, night racing/time of day changes, etc. Very few of us dreamed that Kaz would cram in practically all the gram we'd asked for. ;)

So now, the PS3 to many of us seems limitless in power. But then, how many games can you think of that look as good as GT5 on far superior PC hardware? I can't think of one. And no, I don't think Crysis looks like real life.

At the end of the day GT5 is an amazing game and no game can compete with it.

GT5 JUST ISN'T AS GOOD WITH A CONTROLLER.
PROUD G25 OWNER :)

Honestly I wish they would release this demo over PSN so you guys can play it. Its very addictive. I can give you guys all the footage and videos, but it is nothing compared to playing it for your self. Can't wait for November to get here!

So you would say it's noteably better than GT5P?

By a long shot I can never play GT5P without a vibrating controller. The physics in this GT5 demo are very good. I have a G27, but I played the TT demo with my DS3, and it was extremely hard to control the car IMO, this is not the case for GT5 demo. You really have the sense of being connected to the road. Balance and smooth inputs are still a major key In GT, this demo screams it. When I was cutting my lap time down I was all smiles. I actually kinda like bumper cam, roof cam and that modified hood cam. Don't get me wrong they are still not my favorite views. cockpit view is still the best IMO. What I really like is how intense the cockpit and bumper cam views are. Its very immerse. 👍 I really cant believe i'm so hooked on this demo. Tomorrow I will get better footage. I am also going to best buy to show you guys this standard car video I saw 👍
