for me the main flaw of this game, is that even after a long development.. it still feels incomplete (ie. standard cars, weather/night only on select tracks).

oh well, the game will come out soon and i can finally enjoy it after all these years

Ever cross your mind that the video uploader has a crap camera, crap standard tv and crap recording skills? Plus he mostly plays in mario kart view. Cockpit view is the true view.

How can you guys complain about something that is BEST effort?

It's not like the PD team were slacking off. This is the best that can be done under the circumstances. No matter how you look at it, in the end there needs to be a compromise between graphics and fps, and since the fps aim was 60, this is the best that can be achieved.

Why do people even bother complaining about limitations that are largely due to the hardware? Beleive me if the PS3 could handle more, the PD team would give it to you.

As for the number of premium cars, again, this requires time to do, but we all want the game released now not in another 3 years, so there has to be a compromise. This is it.

IMO the only thing I thing there is a right to complain about, is an important, part of the realism experience PD isnt delivering, in that that the steering angles in the cockpit view are totally wrong for wheel users. With all this obession toward other aspects of even minute details in the pursuit of reflecting real life driving, its is scary to me the in-game driver still turns like a zombie in final builds.

(You can see that not only does the cockpit view driver not turn the wheel very much, but when the wheel user is 100 degrees into turn the in game wheel is barely over 30 degrees.)

Yeah actually the rain is better in that video. Still not entirely convinced about bumper cam though, the view I race in (use in car when cruising for pure pleasure, bumper for serious stuff). They really should have had the rain hit the cam as happens in other games.

maybe in f1... but normal gt cars doesn't have a roof cam installed...

If I'm out in the rain I don't see drops building up on and running down my eyes and the rain is only visible with particular lighting or sometimes when hitting the ground, put a sheet of glass in front of me and it'd be a different story.

The rain not hitting the cam breaks the suspension of disbelief. It should be hitting my TV screen because I am right there. It worked quite well in F12010 and I believe that at least some drops appearing on the cam in bumper view would add to the believability of the experience.

Well.................. Its ugly and a truly dreadful damage model , Swiss cheese ? , Plaster , Card Board , Play doh , these are all the things the Ferrari 458 is made of according to PD

I'm disappointed in the fact that the traditional main menu like in games 2-4 is gone, but it was gone in GTPSP as well. Also I;m worried about what prize cars will be like. I know there are prize cars from the license obtainment vid, but I really hope most of them are prize-only.

How hard was it to put wheels on a standard car? Why not just focus all efforts on premium cars. I can't wait till I discover something else ground breaking when I play the game that they seem to have not told us about.

You can see the rain much better here:
http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_gran_turismo_5_tgs_eiger_rain_better_quality-17190_en.html

I'm assuming it hasn't been downgraded in the full version.

There may be different levels of rain. On the video from the final build, it wasn't raining so hard. Random white lines on screen don't seem to take much processing power, so I see no reason why PD would have downgraded that.

Oh how I hate not being able to change wheels on standard cars, which means not being able to change wheels in 800 cars. We could do that in almost every car in GT4. So I ask: why, PD?

Well, if there is one thing that kinda irks me.................

Why does Polyphony Digital always assume that every single muscle car was made for drag racing? I mean, come on you guys, you can give some variety to their top ends.........instead of just assuming that almost every one tops out at 125-130, like you did in GT4............and the 6-speed transmissions{ridiculous!} didn't help matters, either.

I really wish somebody at PD could fix this little issue{how about a DLC kit?}...........some of these cars were capable of 150 plus with the right gearing, and it just doesn't seem quite all that authentic when they're all as slow as hell. It doesn't have to apply, but at least fix some of 'em.

Oh, and as for custom transmissions? 6 speeds should only be confined to a few cars like the '69 427 Stingray{if they're in there}, or maybe the Camaro SS..............everything else should have either 4 or 5 gears, and NO MORE.

But other than that, I guess that's it for now.................

1969 Camaro SS mainly came with 3speed manual, Z/28 had a 4 speed manual. ZL1 had a 4-speed also.

Obviously the fact that most of the cars in this game will remain in their stock form. Standards were bad in the first place, but giving us less options to do to them than GT4...that's just depressing. Its probably safe to expect little to nothing different in terms of body mods from GT4 for them, as well.

Leaves me questioning the purpose of the cars except to market the car count on the CD case.

I hate that we all waited endlessly for this game and allthough I have tried to avoid spoilers all the time, I have the feeling that I've read about every addition and that the only things that will surprise me are dissapointments that Kaz didnt want us to hear about.
It's looking like we're going to get a racing game with 200 cars, 30 tracks, ugly damage, bad sounds, awfull physics (I saw a small part of a video here of someone driving a subaru in the rain and the car was floating above the street again just like in prologue), hdready instead of full HD and thats it.
I briefly scanned the news headlines on this site with all the leaked videos of people who are allready playing and I didnt see anything in the order of: Surprise! Livery editor, Check out exploding engine in this vid! Cars driving through public and falling from cliffs!, Gravel damaging window, etc. It seems likely that those criminals who are posting vids on youtube would spoil something like that for us immediately but I see nothing amazing.
So what was all the hype about? That we have 200 cars now instead of the aprox 70 in nfs shift? That we have thesame ammount of tracks as shift and F1 2010 combined plus some ovals? That the graphics are slightly above hd ready?
I'm sure I'll like the top gear track but if the handling is indeed similar to prologue then it will ruin the game and I'll probably go back to playing F1 2010, be bored and sell the ps3 because there arent really any other games announced worth waiting for.

Wow. Just wow. Previous post is just full of it. Didn't have to read much to realize he hasn't got a clue what he's talking about.

HA! Shift track count and type of tracks is not that great.
GT5 has physics twice as good as F1 2010, which is mega understeer

This is the bad and ugly thread. I think you need the good thread.

When I have thoughts about this or that feature lacking in a game, I look at this picture and afterwards, I feel much better:

Even though this is 15 pages old (sweet clyde you people enjoy whining), we must remember: You're entitled to nothing. There are physical limitations to how great any game can be. The excruciating minutiae, the tiniest of details that some of you people expect out of this game is a little bit sickening. Nothing is ever 100%. This game looks awesome.

Stopped reading here. Awful physics? What a joke. I've played the BestBuy demo, the physics are spot on, better than anything seen on consoles to date, and on par with many PC sims. Call it how you want it but we are getting 1000+ cars, not 200. Yes standard cars have less features and lower visual quality, but they are running on the same physics engine so they will drive the same. There are a ton of awesome cars in the standard roster as well. The full damage model has yet to be seen. The sounds that we have heard in the leaked videos are leaps and bounds better than any previous GT titles including Prologue, and actually sound pretty good.

I really hope there is some basic livery editor. Personally I don't like how far you can take it with Forza, I don't want to see hello kitty or batman all over cars when I'm racing online. But to allow for some customization so that car's are unique and distinguishable online would be nice.

-No rims on standard cars
-No livery editor
-Random dealerships
-Used-only standards

The livery editor could be patched in later (write a petition?), but the others are just stupid. It's little things like that that make you go "who the 🤬 came up with that and who did they think would enjoy it?"

Also, if the Stealth cars turn out to be arcade-only it'll be a major disappointment, because then I won't be able to collect them all (online trade). Ah well, there's always Gameshark.

I'm thinking of running a Nurburgring lap times ranking thread (I'll probably be too lazy though) and since the Stealth cars have increased performance (in addition to just being cool) it would be useful to have some way of getting them all.

I'm hearing a lot about standard cars having less options but so far the only thing I have read on it, fact wise, is that we can't change the wheels. We will still be able to add racing kits and performance upgrades, correct? :nervous:

Doubt it. Wheels are the most basic aesthetic mod you can do, and since they're modeled in one piece I doubt we'll get much else. Although a few might have an all-out racemod a la GT2, remember that strange button in the GT Auto menu?

While I'm sure you'll still be able to mess with the engine and suspension and so on, it looks like the majority of the cars will be stuck with the sleeper look again (even more than in previous games).

Modding the premiums should be interesting, and I still hold out hope for an inter-site petition to change Kaz's mind about DLC...

Okay, but I was talking about the custom{'Full Racing' IIRC} transmissions you can buy in the game.........IMO, it was kinda ridiculous to see 6 gears for almost every muscle car out there.

@White & Nerdy: Btw, there was some clarification on this..........Kaz was only against DLCs that you actually had to pay for{don't recall when I saw this, though........but it's out there}.

I could also stop reading where it says you live in Florida because what do americans know about car physics? You dont believe me? Then believe Jeremy Clarckson or compare the crap you drive in to what we have. But I'm not the kind of person to show someone the door when I dont like what he's saying and if it isnt my door.
For you and some other people who probably never got their driving license, who will burst into tears when someone says something they dont like to hear and who never had a GT game and therefore not recognise that what I said does show that I know what I'm talking about: Watch this video from 2:26 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_J3hGg-8PJc&feature=related
I know its not the final build but its a very recent one.
CoolColj, especially for you: What you see happening all the time when this car is sliding off track is what they call understeer. What you sometimes encounter in F1 2010 is oversteer. So, next time, if you want to say HA! Game x is mayor understeer. Be sure that you are talking about GT then. Yeah I know it makes you cry but if you dont you will look like a huge noob again.
So besides the bad physics you can see in this vid you can also see the bad graphics: There are often huge jaggies visable on both sides of the car. This is not due to the low res video because you will not see them on the minimap for instance (which is turning around all the time). That's because the hud will probably be in 1080p but the real game is in a lower resolution. If it was full HD then you would never see that.
Then Organ donor (I'm beginning to wonder which organs u donated but ok :P) You said GT physics are as good as many pc sims. I dont know why you think that is relevant but as you can see in the vid: the car isnt rolling over in the corners at all, its sliding all over the place and the way that guy is going through the grass on the inside of the corner with like 10 miles an hour shows that the sense of having control over the car is non existant so if this is what the pc sims are like then I'm not interested in those either. My only hope is that they radically changed the handling after this demo.

@CaliBoy: Ah... hope remains then.

Personally, I'd be willing to wait an extra 2 years or maybe more for GT6 if it meant some upgrades to GT5 in the form of DLCs. Standard cars upgraded to premium, and maybe a few cars from GT2 such as: Espace F1, PT Spyder , Coppehead/Concept Car and LM Edition, the better Proteges and Pulsars, the many "tuner" type prize cars, various Tommykaria tuners, etc. etc. Where'd all the good cars go anyway? Oh that's right, they became Skylines, Miatas, RXes, 3000GTs, and of course Kei cars. (That reminds me, I'd like a lot less redunant/generally wrothless cars in GT6. But that's another story.)

Maybe revive some tracks from earlier games - I for one would go for Red Rock Valley, Tahiti anything, Rome 90's (and Rome Night - loved that course), Green Forest Roadway, Grindelwald, Smokey Mountain, aaaaaaaaaaaand Seattle Short. I loved all of those, and I'm probably forgetting something here.

Oh, and a livery editor. Can't forget that.

Like I said, I'd be willing to wait a looooooooot longer for GT6 if some surplus content was provided for GT5. Anyone agree?
