Ya thats what I was thinking, in terms of pedal travel and recreating feel. I might have to incorperate certain components like brake booster, or some kinda caliper with pad material to squeeze. I could jsut put a rubber hose on the master cylinder because the rubber will have some give, creating pedal travel. I dirgess, its jsut I made my seat at work so I'm very "home-made" enthused. Whats is PW brand?

Besides the X1 I have golded everything except that damn rally challenge in the Euro tour. For some reason I am stuck on it. AMG was a cake walk. Even Top Gear and the 8C challenges were not too bad... but for some reason this rally event is KILLING me. Any tips?

brake earlier.....that seems to be the trick...also the reason why it really sucks for the bad pace note since you can't really anticipate too well...

I set the center diff torque split (or whatever its called) to 50/50, seems to help pull the front straight, and power off the corner faster when you toss if sideways. All other aids off.

You might need to be a little more specific, but if my memory servers me right its a time trial on Tuscana gravel course with a Ford Focus WRC?

Rally is really my favorite part of this game, its definately the most fun you can have with the steering wheel. You can gold this one of two ways, and further more there is something to be said about the track and handling WRC with dirt tires.

First, you can either, what I consider, cheat this, or set the aids. If you wanna cheat, set the skid recovery ON, and all you gotta do is slam the brakes, slam the gas, and dont go too fast on slow corners. Assuming you are truely having trouble, you must have turned skid recovery to OFF, in which case turn all aids off. ABS 0, I'm not sure but I think the ABS on 1 might slow you down when braking since you are on dirt grip physics.

The thing I find driving WRC cars in rally is its all about visualizing the speed each corner needs to be taken at. On tarmac surface you can tell when you're going too fast when you turn in and your car starts to understeer off the road(in typical cases or drive trains), so you can sort of feel out the speed with the grip, but on dirt or gravel you might be understeering off the track even when you should be going slow enough to turn in. So first you should have some seat time and track time to learn the general speeds and grips for the event. To me, its all about angle, you want to enter the turn drifting at a slight angle, not a super 45 degree drifter angle, but something about halfway more or less. This seems to be the optimum "position" for the car to grip, and all the while the car is in this position you're going to want to apply about half throttle. When you apply some throttle at the slight angle the car really grips and rips around mid and low speed turns. You're going to have to modulate the throttle to "find" the grip, and as you see the exit you can proceed to give it more and more, but dont let the rear end come too far out cause this slows you down. Furthermore if you find as you're trying to hold this angle while giving it a good amount of throttle the car starts to straighten out, simply rip the gas to full throttle to get the car to rotate, then let off suddenly and get quickly back on it half way to maintain the grip. This technique isnt strictly for every mid to lwo speed turn, but I find that when I concentrate on maintaining the angle through my throttle control I can hold much cleaner lines which in turn give me much better lap times. Lastly, some turns on Toscana start mild and tighten up at the end, so pay attention to your red gear notes and when they signal you to slow down, or shift down, lift off the gas and let the car slow itself down(while trying to maintain the angle with the throttle if need be) to the proper speed so you can get back to the throttle to grip the car around the last bit of corner. Its not as cut and dry as grip driving around a paved ciruit, so if any of this info was missing from your driving technique you might find some lost time. The key is to not let the angle get too sharp or too shallow and let the gas pull you around the turn.

Toscana itself has, in my opinion, 1 key turn that needs to be taken perfectly to really grap hold that gold time. Most the turns are really easy, not too blind, and fairly easy to find grip, rather hard to lose too much time on if you maintain good angle. But the low speed medium left hairpin turn halfwaythrough the track(after the long high speed curve that comes after the courses first chicane, preceeds a short straight) is where I find about 1 or 2 seconds if you can take it correctly. Typically most turns you brake, let off the brake on turn in, rotate, and gas through and out, but on this turn you have acually brake on late brake, through turn in, through rotation, and then gas as you apex and onto exit. Taken catiously, without heavy trail braking and getting on the gas early, you will lose grip after apex and find your self struggling for speed on your exit. Taken correctly you can rocket around this hairpin, then let off in 2nd gear for the tight right hander, gas out, left off a bit extra for the off camber tight left, and gas out over the crest and down to the super tight hairpin. There are 2 hairpins from here on out that you have to take in 1st gear I believe. I found myself not using the ebrake, as proper steering and lift off gets these cars 180 pretty well and smoothly. Lastly theres the 4th gear to 2nd gear high to midspeed right hander before the finish. This turn is also a bit key as well, as it is very easy to screw up. The hard part is entering it on gas to grip it around the high to mid speed part, but you have to find some section to kill enough speed(off throttle) to hit 2nd gear and grip around the end of the corner as it tightens. You have to slow down enough to hit the apex on the exit, but since it gets so tight its easy to overshoot. I recomend a double apex approach, apexing early to grip the high speed part in which you enter, then slide out about mid way to way wide to slow down(off throttle), then when you sense the turn is going to tighten up try to suck the apex back with some throttle and proceed to exit.

Hope that was any help.

P.S. Sometimes you can afford to hit the brake a slight bit to help slow down on thsoe increasing radius turns(tighten up as they end). In any case, just be patient with the lift off when trying to slow down and focus on maintaining angle.

Torque split helps too...I don't know why its set at default at 30/70, seems dumb for both snow and gravel to run rear bias as it delays the moment you can hit the gas and use the front to pull your car out of a turn...

I didn't know the skid recovery thing works in the rally mode, but I am sorta glad I didn't since now I sorta learnt to drive the gravel stuff in GT5. I used to really suck at any GT rallying...

I think it might be permanately turned off, I can't remember. Either way, I felt cheated when I realized what skid recovery does, and have kept it off every since. Makes it too easy...

I use a Driving Force Pro(the old GT4 wheel I believe). I get lockup with 4/4 at about 85% brake. Anyone notice when you first turn on your PS3 and go into your first turn 5% brake pedal is 100% brake, causing you to lockup and spin out? Then it seems to calibrate as I run the brake pedal fully up and down and I have to restart. That **** pisses me off.

Just fully press gas and brake after the wheel spin itself on start-up, you calibrate pedals that way.

AMG driving school is giving me a lot of trouble, probably because I have never driven the nurburgring before, so naturally I don't know the track at all.

To help learn the track I zoomed the HUD all the way so it is literally un-usable. I think this will help me memorize it. What do you guys think of this strategy? Do most of you still rely on the HUD?

PS: This tread should be titled "Special Events - Discussion and Bragging"

Best thing to do with the Nurburgring is to drive it LOTS.
I did a lot of laps on GT4, and you really need to know where you can go flat out, where to brake, overtake etc.

I still suck balls at it though....

Haha, sorry if it seems like I'm bragging, but I'm just trying to give a sense pace so people can compare their pace, or at least restore confidence if they otherwise felt somethign was impossible. If I knew how to upload my replays to youtube I would.

IDK if changing the size of the map or disabling it will do anything. You jsut need to spend some hours memorizing it. The way I learned it was to do each section as it was presented to me, and I never skipped or moved on till I got gold. This enabled me to focus on what parts of the track I had down and what parts I was slow or could find more time/grip.

Exactly, really the only way to be comfortable and fast around the ring or any other track is by learning and memorizing it. The way the special events are setup really does help as long as you take the time to run them all the way through, the extra time you spend getting those golds really pays off when you get to the point where you don't have to rely on the map to know what corner is coming up next. It was very helpful to me to be able to work on specific corners or sections in the 2nd half of the course without spending 5 minutes just getting to them.

I think AMG Academy in GT5 is probably the best way to learn the track I've seen yet in a game. You are doing it in 1-3 min chunks, and you can focus your memorizing down by section instead of crashing repeatably early on in the lap and never see the end. I don't remember how it was done in GT4 but I don't think it was that structured. The first time I ever play Nordschleife though was in I think a user made track in EA's F1 Challenge 99-02 on PC. So having some track knowledge help as it translate somewhat over to GT4(and now GT5). Back on PC it was just a crash fest in the early days....:D

I still remember that License test in GT4 around the ring in the 190 Evo II, I wish that car is a Premium in GT5...

ALL GOLDS- I don't have the X1 challenge open yet however.

Karting- Easy Peasy
Nascar- Relatively Easy- Pit to first in two laps was a little tough.
Top Gear- I didn't have too bad a time with these, but the lotus requires smooth inputs.
AMG- Don't fear the wet, fear the dry- dry times are tougher. The SLS full lap (dry) of the Ring in 7:05 can be tough especially if it is late at night and your a little drowsy- my case.
Rally- Tarmac was the toughest by far. Snow was way too easy.
Grand Tour- Easy until you get to the night time race, then you will have to use THE FORCE as the headlights don't do cr@p.
Seb Rally Events- so easy I can't even remember them.

My tip . . . be sure and check the Driving aids before starting each event. If you are going to use traction control don't set it to anything higher than 1. For rally set it to zero.

Can someone please help me out with the final Jeff Gordon event? I have no idea what to do. I'm trying to draft off of the other cars, but my car just falls farther and farther back as the race goes on.

I suggest you search GT Planet, there has already been a lot of discussion and tips given for it.

I decided to give the SLS full lap a rest and try the wet tests. Only one left to gold so I concur with others that the wet gold times are more generous. I just have the SLS dry and SL wet full laps to gold.

Grand Tour =easy, well yes apart from the Eiger test which is the only other special event left to gold. That is hard. Any tips, please ?

Turn ABS to 0 so as to turn off the ASM. ASM significantly slows you down on the turns and makes your car dance around in the turns, with it off its much more smooth and the car holds a higher speed.

First off, a big tip is to use a steering wheel of course. May not make you faster, but it makes things way easier. Also it should be common knowledge to turn all aids off because there are situations were you need the car to slide and rotate to achieve higher times or faster exits. ABS 1 if you must, but I usually just keep it off.

The Eiger trial with the pos alfa is a bit difficult. I find that not alot of time can be made up in the esses, but actually in the last sequence of turns. Make sure to brake late and slide a bit of speed off to set up for the second apex on that last turn, some of you may find that second your looking for.

If you are consistant with the beggining hairpins, you'll need to make up time on the last double apex corner. Not much to this track...

Please give me some tips for the Karting challenges. I have gold on the first 2 but the last one (advanced?) - takes place on a kart track and on Autumn ring mini - I just can't complete a single lap without spinning, being spun off, sliding etc etc and dropping WAY behind the other karts. wtf is going on?

Is there a way to drive the karts smoothly? I come around the first corner of Autumn ring mini, then the tail slides out, then spins back the other way, then spins the other way etc... this continues, the flapping builds up and then I spin around, slide into a wall and get glued there. Driving me mad :D

I did this again last night (already have gold, I wondered if anyone had tried gaining the experience and money again... you don't, but worth a shot and enjoyable!)
The first corner is the hardest, because you drive it differently in the go kart compared with ANY other car in the game. Brake going in of course, but don't brake mid corner and you need careful accelerator control. Full throttle and steering upsets the car, and you can feel it happening as it begins to let go. (This applies to the other corners as well now) be REALLY careful with the steering and make the faster sections as straight as possible to minimise the steering input, certainly never even close to full lock. Finally, if you feel the rear about to break loose then come off the throttle slightly and then put it back on. Best tip by far, since its needed regularly for about half the track and will stop you spinning out as often! Good luck

Got gold in the Eiger 8C challenge! At the beginning i try to race with automatic transmission due to the difficulty of this challenge...wrong! Manual transmission is a must in this challenge! Shifting down to first gear(you get much more traction, btw be gentle with the gas) in the first section then shift up at the apex of second and third corner makes you faster! Try to open the gas early in the fourth corner then brake as late as you can and go for the long right corner, shift up to third gear just after the mid of the corner and full throttle. After the tunnel brake a little shift down to third just for a split second then 4th. The last double right corner is not so simple, you can brake very late enter the first corner then when you open up the gas to exit the last corner you can shift to 3rd gear to keep a good traction.

I hope it will help you in golding this hard challenge! :D

p.s. sorry for my bad english! :)

This evening I golded the SL wet lap and then eventually the SLS dry lap to complete golding the AMG Academy. I then thought I would try for the GTR '07 trophy and got it second go !

Top tip; after golding the Intermediate full lap event, go straight after and get in the GTR '07. ;)

I think I may do an Endurance race and then go off to the Eiger - the only Special Event that I have yet to gold. Thanks for the above tips I may will need them !

Ill look and see if I saved my Eiger lap, so maybe I can give you guys the time I usually hit before the bridge after the beggining hairpins. That way you guys can tell if you're fast enough in the first part, after that the only other place to really make up time is either the long hairpin after the hairpins or the last double apex turn.

Thanks. I have looked at a gold run and noted a couple of 'checkpoint' times. I am losing time in the second half of the test. But it is still early days, though I have always struggled on Eiger and do not expect a quick gold here. I am going to try again at the weekend or early next week. After my vacation at the 'ring I need to do some racing.

Golded the Eiger. Maybe some repetition here, but in case it helps others: I used a DS3, MT and TCS 3, ABS 1, Active Mild, ASM off. Initially I was struggling to get under 1.18 but I stuck with it and then got regular 1.17s before eventually golding.

1st checkpoint is the bridge at 34s - it quite easy to get regular 34s to the bridge, but very hard to find much more time regularly, though much easier to lose. Just find a rythmn or method to do this.
2nd CP is the 'tunnel' at 50s - you have to get the long right hander correct, minimise any drift and get a good clean run. Though I braked down to 2nd gear, I took most of the bend (gingerly at first) in 3rd.

Then it is the run home. The kink after the bridge; I would lift and stay in 4th but after the first apex drop to 3rd briefly for acceleration.

Final turns; it is so easy to lose over a second here. I braked on the rise down to 2nd, kept it very tight and very gentle on the throttle until the second apex then accelerate and change to 3rd as soon as the track drops. You must keep the car tight through the final apex and to the finish.

Persevere and it will come to you.

I have one question, for us that already golded all the special events the update 1.05 bring the new prize cars for the AMG challenge or we can't have those cars because we're too fast?!?!? O_o

Have yet to gold the Eiger, but I did manage to gold the full Intermediate lap....7:03.6 something....now I can use the 24 hour track...:)

Thanks...The autumn ring mini event is driving me nuts...:yuck:

I only did the special events once and left them, the AMG ones are insanely hard cause i only got silvers on them, all the others i think i have golds on, maybe 1 silver from the grand tour (cause you don't get a prize car for it, so i don't see the point) i was doing them mostly with default driver aid settings or all off abs 1 found that the racing line gets in the way though, its only useful if you don't know the track.

For the Karts:
If you use DS3 like I did lern to minimise the Steering input. If you max the steering you will spin keep it smooth and you will succeed.

AMG:
Rain was easy. TCS down to 3 and I made both Rain challenges Gold first or second try.

Loeb:
A bit to easy 3-6 Tries (Chamonix killed me) due to not knowing the tracks ;)

Rally:
Way to easy !!

NASCAR:
Tough with DS3. Turn ABS off and you will have it easier.
Know your steering input and speed.

TGTT:
Frustrating bt golded all three.
Only tip which I can give: Try, try, try ....

World Tour:
The Lambo event is a no go for me. I will not do this (tried it allot and gave up on that).

Vettel:
Maybe I am to old for this... Or I must try it more then once xD
The Car is Holly S*** !!
