389 - the limit set - as long as you install everything as per spec in the first post.

138 hp is max, so you know when it's broken in

@Dr Watson - Why don't you get down on this circus with us?

Just finished testing the cars. Leaning toward the '04 since I prefer the mild oversteer the extra mass and torque give it. The '89 is certainly going to be easier on it's tires though.

I'm probably going to miss the practice race on Sunday. Just a heads up.

I am on my 4th oil change and pp is still 386 135 hp.

It takes 185 miles to break in the engine of the '89, regardless of the number of oil changes.

Doing a practice race this Thursday @ 8:00 EDT.

I still don't know what track though...

It's either gonna be Rome reverse, Madrid reverse, or Suzuka East.

Well I'm not going to be at the Thursday practice race, so we're even. :P

I did my best in Grand Valley Reverse...

Zero confidence in the pre-season coming up with the times I'm running. Welsh is getting good, consistent times while I'm all over the place because I can't get the first section right at all. My biggest problem is simply the lack of using markings for turn-in and such. I, personally, don't use markings specifically and usually go by "feeling" on when to turn in, brake, accel out, etc. I'll admit I have a slow learning curve when it comes to new tracks because of that but, after that initial hump, I'd like to think I'm quick enough. I just don't see that happening with this one though,.

Yes and no. A pit road is a must for this series as this season I am requiring a pit stop every race.
Doesn't Course Maker always add a pit road?

Also, since you weren't around last week due to being in Orlando you missed my custom track; I'd like to think it ended up being a big hit. We'll have to try and get it into another practice session.

The Course Maker does not include a pit lane for tracks based off the kart track template. Which is the template you have to use to create a course that works well with the Miata in terms of length.

I too am using "feeling" to determine my turn-in and braking points for the first complex of corners at GVE Reverse. Sector 1 alone is where you make or break your lap time with T1 & T2, especially, being great fun in these Miatas. I find that you don't need to brake for T1 but for T2 you have to get hard enough on the brakes to get it whoa-ed down but not too hard that you inhibit the turn-in ability of the front tires. Jett & I were running pretty similar laps time when we were practicing together with each of us setting PB lap times around the 18.0XX mark.

Edit: Sorry for the double post.

Mt Aso always generates short tracks, but it's beyond hilly so I don't know if it would be great for miatas.

I want to register!

Road tracks wouldn't be that great. Although making a bunch of really long tracks with the Toscana template would be cool to use for a "road rally" event. 👍

breathes a sigh of relief that I'm not way off pace
The 20 lap shake down I did with each car at GVER was 18.1 for the '04 and 18.2 for the '89

Oh I guess that's true. We'd just have to have a track that's a bit longer and not based on a kart track.

That's kinda what I was trying to hint at. And since you don't have a post season bonus race, I thought I might suggest my track. It's always available as my shared track so anybody can practice on it. 👍

There are a couple people that posted a few pages back that referred to it as the "Rollercoaster Track."

It's 5.16 miles and 80 turns with heavy banking everywhere. It's an awesome 'canyon carving' track... perfect for Miats.

Anello Italiano in English is "Italian Ring," a name I felt was plenty appropriate.

I was thinking something more along the lines of a "Targa" event. Maybe something to think about after this season is over.

Edit: By the way we are on the front page of Flyin' Miata's website, although it seems to be down at the moment...

Edit 2: Their website is working now.

I love Mt Aso -- you can run 200 laps on the same track and the first time you try to go side by side you'll be breaking new ground over unfamiliar bumps and dips...

I really need to practice on GVE though, still in the 120s and with this many people I may not even make the top 16! Will there be alternates in the event of no shows?

I think we should still run the group B for fun as Turbo mentioned. I'm guessing by my times that I'm looking at bottom of group one or top of group B. Group B would still be a fun race, even not for points. Would be cool to qualify 15 for Group A and make the 16th spot a race in from all the group B guys, but wouldn't want to complicate Turbo's life.
