Here is my set up guys, let me explain. The X button is for the gas or more formal the accelerator. The square button is to brake, R2 and L2 are upshift and downshift while the analog stick is to move the car. Not sure what you guys have, but my unit is compact :sly:.

Nice setup, do you have the plans/dimensions for the rig? đź‘Ť

This is my frame which has been made on a budget after blowing all my money on the G27 wheel. i designed the frame so that the seat, wheel and pedals can all be adjusted. The seat is from a mk1 ford focus (ÂŁ30 including the rails isnt bad for how good condition it is). Its a simple design but works beautifully.

Let me know what you think and what you would change or add to it to improve it????

I love seeing people build their own rig's. And yours looks very tidy! good job. Only thing I'd say, and it's from personal experience is the height of your seat. Mine was low too, though not as low as yours and after using it a while I found it hurt my legs. I raised it and its so much better now.....Really comfortable. But great job

Thanks for the comment! luckily that seat has the height adjustment and on the picture it is at its lowest. If the seat was higher it would also make it more realistic if i was using road cars.

edit....

I think I'm going to cover my cockpit with fiberglass and some real carbon fiber here and there too. Never really worked with the stuff before, but plenty of my friends have and can give me guidance. Think it will look nice and "finished" in the end.

mine is covered with carpet on the floor and bottom-inner corner of the sides, carbon fibre decal over the rest of the sides and the bottom of the top, and fake leather over everywhere on the top except where the wheel itself goes. strange choices, I know, but I'm a big fan of how everything turned out.

I ran out of the carbon fiber decal by the time I decided I wanted a pedal box, though, so that's covered in a checkered flag vinyl I had sitting around, just to finish it off.

Yeah, I was considering vinyl, but I'm just not sure anymore, as I want it to be a fairly permanent solution and I've had some significant problems with vinyl stickers in the past. Just not sure how long it would last. Leaning towards fiberglass/FRP now.

i got the GT5 Cockpit out monday night and played all day yesterday. took some more in-depth pics of it.

For RHD, flip the top 90* by the wheel board and bottom 90* by the seat and the shifter mount needs flipped too.

Did you use the front from the simul8r design then make your own for the back and shifter

Carbon fiber would be awesome, my prosthesis are built out of it. I should see if my Prosthetist could get me a roll (cheap)

Carbon fiber fabric is fairly cheap to begin with, but yeah, might even be able to get a better deal. Fiberglass and carbon fiber are fairly easy to work with from what I can tell. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to get it smooth and uniform, it just takes someone with a lot of patience.

How do you like having the post between your legs on it?

I have read comments from other people explaining that having a post inbetween your legs causes a problem when heel and toeing. Therefore i have off set my post to the left and moved the pedals to the right just enough so that i can still use my left leg for braking when using the paddle shift. Because I have used a ball joint on the pedals I can move the pedals further over if i want quite easily.

I have a center post on my rig pictured a couple of pages back.......I have no problems when I heel toe.

It is a hassle having it there.......I will be doing some upgrades to my rig soon and eliminate the center post altogether.

Some of these are quite nice, and some have a nice setup beyond the seat like a great surround sound and tv. However, the platform of the steering wheel seems kind of cheap which is ironic of that around the rig.

Mine was just a toss together on a saturday with some scraps. I do plan on designing and building a nice rig, but for now this is plenty functional (although looks like crap).

Your set up around it looks awesome, hence why I didn't understand why at first the rig wasn't matching. However, I do get it now, it's a labor of love and not something that is going to come together in an instance.

Right, think of it as a prototype of sorts, I'll build upon that for a nicer design (function and finish). Just made it yesterday, ideas for then next one are just starting to flow.

And now you're hooked. I've designed and disassembled about 5 different prototypes now using anything from a computer desk, a stand alone wood platform, and a complete f1 style cockpit (hated to disassemble the f1 but i don't have a dedicated man cave so it wasn't practical). Now i'm using a sporty bucket seat out of a honda S2000 bolted to a frame that i made with galvanized steel pipe. Trust me, it never ends, but I'm glad because building them to me is just as fun as racing. In fact, i've got some more mods to do on my uprights to add anti-flex support for my new Fanatec CSR Elite coming on wednesday! heres a link to my post, i'll be updating it more when the elite gets here.

Oh and TEK Jimmy, I was really wondering about the purple pants at first... Then I thought about it, and thought, whats a racers favorite color? Most people would think green or checkored, but they'd be wrong. Its purple, as in he who has the fastest lap goes---- PURPLE! so rock on those purple pants dude, I hope they make you go faster!

Mantown down ;(

My 65 mitsu dlp i think has given up the ghost. A few pages back i talked about some issues i was having with my tv. At last count I was up to 27 stuck pixels and 3 dead ones. Which is a problem with the light engine.
This morning my daughter turned it on only to have it shut down within two minutes and the lamp failure light would come on. Odd thing is, when the tv was on, i had an image where as my last 2 blown bulbs ( grrrrrrr ) resulted in absolutely no image as the bulbs actually popped. So i remove and inspect the lamp. No breaks in the glass, filament is solid etc but the thing smells bad. Dusted out the lamp compartment and fans and reassembled, hoping in vain I would atleast have a working tv. I can ( not really ) deal with the stuck pixels for a little while longer.

Damn tv ran out of warranty oct 30th. In four years i have gone through 3 bulbs and a failing light engine. The tv has 4 feet on either side and a foot behind for ventilation so I know that isnt the cause.

Decisions decisions. Down size a little for an lcd, go for a projector.......
That optima gt750 projector looks nice, but is not 3d capable without being run through nvidia.

Blah....... end rant

Mantown down :(

Started building my console today. It will house the shifter, my USB monitor for iSpeed, my DSD button box, the rotary encoders for my SLI-Pro, and some LED's and other random buttons. It will also house the amp for my bass shaker, but not sure if I want it on top like in the picture, or on the back.

The rounded part of the main cockpit is being cut away so I can rest my arm on the console like a real car. Only done minor testing with it so far, but it feels much better than before, much more natural. Still needs to be smoothed out, painted, and carbon fiber stickers applied, and some other little stuff.

Here is the current work in progress:

It supports HDMI 1.4 720p 3D standard format. Compatible also with X360 3D via HDMI 1.2 and also Nvidia 3D Vision. Great wee PJ, get the much superior RF glasses though. It has a slight hint of screen door effect with a big screen and close up that recent/decent LCD don't have. Good at the price though and the 3D on it suffers from no Xtalk.

I'm for testing triple GT750s trying to achieve 3way GT5 also in 3D next week to determine and continue "Project R" development. I'm considering 3x 50" screens but on a flat wall first then if no good consider canted screens.
