A British and an American, pretty interesting in my view. Look out Smallhorses. Check your rear view mirror each and every second, I'll be overtaking you without your eyes becoming aware. :sly:

A British and an American...

Fixed :sly:

Or: "A Briton" if you're feeling more formal.

"A British" would need an object or person after it, such as "A British girl..." or "A British car..."

I'll watch out for you passing, it'll only be you unlapping yourself as I'm slowing down though! :mischievous:

For NTSC I guess you would therefore use normal comfort; as long as the game says N2 just before you start driving everything should be fine. For my future reference what are N1's called in NTSC?

On the NTSC game N2 is normal comfort and normal road is N3. Which on do we use?

Good to see you back in here again! 👍
Yeah the tyre descriptions can be quite confusing across the 2 formats, NTSC & PAL, however, the numerical designations, N1, N2, N3, S1, S2, S3, R1, R2, R3, R4, R4, DT, SNW are pretty much consistent and can be relied upon.
In this case N2s are what shotamagee is after, more than likely, unless N2 is a typo of course, so we'd better let him clarify this. I suppose it'd be useful to post up a list of the different names for things PAL vs. NTSC.
I'll work on a tyre name list for NTSC later and if someone can add the correct PAL descriptions that'd help. It could be added to FAQs or just into post #1 for clarification here.

It does seem there are more names for the N-spec tyres than I'd thought; here's a summary of my findings for my PAL system.

GT Mode: Car Parts Purchase Menu

N1 Standard:Economy
N2 Standard:Comfort
N3 Standard:Road
S1 Sports:Hard
S2 Sports:Medium
S3 Sports:Soft
R1 Racing:Super Hard
R2 Racing:Hard
R3 Racing:Medium
R4 Racing:Soft
R5 Racing:Super Soft
DT Dirt
SN Snow

GT Mode: Car Tune Menu
N1 Standard:Economy
N2 Standard:Luxury
N3 Standard:Road

Arcade Mode: Quick Tune Menu
N1 Normal:Economy
N2 Normal:Road
N3 Normal:Sport
(rest same)

Arcade Mode: Race Menu Tyre Names
N1
N2
RD

SM
SS
RSH
RH
RM
RS
RSS
DT
SNW

If someone can give me the comparative list of NTSC tyre names hopefully this issue can be put to bed.

EDIT: For the current round (wk10) N2 tyres (I can't be any clearer than that can I?) are the ones to use.

I've bolded the major differences between formats.
It seems there's greater consistency in the tyre names in the NTSC game, Economy, Comfort and Road are N1s, N2s, & N3s respectively throughout. The only real difference is that Dirt tyres show up as DT when available for purchase in GT Mode and D in Arcade mode race screen, and Snow tyres show up as SN when available for purchase in GT Mode and SNW in Arcade mode race screen.
Oh, and they insist on spelling tyres wrongly as "tires". :P

From your PAL info it appears that N2 tyres can be known by Comfort, Luxury or Road depending on where you look at them, and equally confusingly N3 tyres can be know as Road or Sport depending on where you look at them. Ugh.

Out of curiosity how many laps do you guys run? I think that I have run 40-50 laps with the jaguar. Also, maybe separate NTSC/PAL tire info should be added into each weeks description for avoiding more problems.

I ran about a dozen laps each and got these times.

Jaguar E-Type Coupe ‘61: 1:44.936
Chevrolet Corvette Coupe (C2) ‘63: 1:46.464

I have a small question regarding the bonus time. Let's say that you had to get within a second of the primary car to get a .5 second time bonus, and your times were 2'00.000 and 2'01.100, and you just could not get the last tenth off. Could you run a couple of laps trying to get you main car time to be just over 2'00.100 so that you can get the time bonus or do you have to post your fastest results?

If you want to submit a slower time to get in the bonus zone thats fine by me.

I try to make the bonus fairly easy to achieve, so that those who invest the time in driving the second car should find it easy enough to stay within the bonus time zone. (the bonus being only 0.5 this week is because you need to spend money in GT Mode to buy the Corvette)

Ok, thanks. I shouldn't have to sandbag to get the bonus though.

Great times Bopop4 👍
I can see where I'm dropping the 1/10ths on you, but I've run out of time to try and keep a faster lap clean as I need to run the bonus 'Vette before bedtime.
Sadly I'll be at work all day tomorrow, so no time to squeeze any more laps in before the deadline!

Jaguar E-Type Coupe ‘61: 1:42.857
Chevrolet Corvette Coupe (C2) ‘63: 1'43.933

Hmmmm... fastest bonus lap, but scant consolation for being unable to shave the 3/10ths I need off the Jag. Oh well, can't win 'em all! :D

GT4 Weekly Arcade Time Trial Challenge: Week 11
gran-turismo-4.jpg

This week’s challenge is;

GT4 WRC Road Version.
The heyday of the World Rally Championship (WRC) Subaru Impreza Vs Mitsubishi Lancer battle was during the late 90’s, and the battles between their lead drivers; Tommi Mäkinen and Colin McRae are just as famous.
So I would have liked to have done a Impreza 22B STI Vs Lancer VI TME rally battle, but due to availability we will instead see how much WRC genetics remain in each manufacturer’s most recent (2004 for GT4) offering.
Despite these car's specifications being so similar, (4 door, 4WD, 2.0litre turbocharged, same power, similar weight) I find the way they actually drive is noticeably different.
IMO the Lancer has less under-steer and looks better, but the Impreza has the better engine and sounds nicer.
So which camp are you in, and which car will come out on top?

Track: Cathedral Rocks Trial I

Primary Car: Subaru Impreza WRX STi SpecC '04
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: DT (Dirt)
Quicktune: None (Stock)

Optional Bonus Car: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII GSR MR '04
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: DT (Dirt)
Quicktune: None (Stock)
Optional bonus Car Time: For this week, you just need to keep the times of your 2 cars within 2.000 seconds of each other to receive a 1.000 second time bonus.

My Times (so Far)
Subaru Impreza WRX STi SpecC '04: 1:46.989
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII GSR MR '04: 1:47.932.

These are the specs the cars should have on the track menu screen just before you start driving;
Subaru Impreza WRX STi SpecC '04: HP-321 KG-1370 Tyres-DT (D for NTSC)
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII GSR MR '04: HP-321 KG-1400 Tyres-DT (D for NTSC)

You have until Tuesday 24th January 2012 1:00 PM GMT to post your best time(s) in this thread (you can edit/improve them if you wish). All other rules are as per post No1.

Good Luck.

Thanks. I thought that somebody was watching me play on that last run. :)
Does a wheel make a big difference?

I haz spies...

As far as the wheel goes, I'm not sure, I played GT1, GT2 with non-analog DS1 & GT3 using the keypads, D-pad for steering and X &
square-white.gif
for gas / brake as I could never get used to the analog sticks on the DS2.
When GT4 came along with it's odd self-centering mechanism, the fact that I was used to steering and then tapping the opposite way on the D-pad to straighten up again, this went out of the window as it just results in over-correction as the game has brought you back to center already, and I end up driving in zig-zaggy lines everywhere. I didn't last more than a couple of laps on the first day of owning GT4 (on release day!) before I got utterly frustrated and decided I ought to treat myself to a wheel. Since then I've never looked back.
There are certainly drivers out there such as Austin343, Jump_Ace & hollo1 who'd eat my lunch with a DS2 anyway, and for certain combos the controller is just quicker, but you'll not separate me from my wheel now!

(Those who were at SFGTP event where we did a reverse controller race - wheel drivers forced to use DS2 & DS2-ists forced to use wheels - will attest to my total inability to drive GT4 with a controller! :embarrassed:)

Lol, thanks for the info. I was trying to drive a 787b at the ring and couldn't figure out why I was all over the place. Turned off active steering and power boost, took about 10-15 seconds off!

Subaru Impreza WRX STi Spec '04: 1:43.683
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII GSR MR '04: 1:44.845

This was quite fun racing on a dirt and road track in the same trial.

I probably shouldn't even submit my times, but someone's gotta be last.

Subaru Impreza WRX STi Spec '04: 1:49.089
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII GSR MR '04: 1:49.553

Knew there was something I forgot this weekend. :ouch:
Best go and bash out a couple of times then. Don't expect greatness though. :nervous:
Any chance Crooooooow can post some replay videos after the results are up so we can learn from his newfound mad-tyte rally skillz? 👍

Ok people just over 5 hours left until the end of this round.

I'll echo above, a replay (or something) would be nice Crooooooow, I'm not normally over 3 seconds off your pace.
