GT4 Weekly Arcade Time Trial Challenge: Week 5
gran-turismo-4.jpg

This week’s challenge is;

The traction control test.
This week we’re going to see how good (or not) your throttle control is. You’ll be driving the most powerful road car in GT4 the TVR Cerbera Speed 12 ’00. First we'll be driving it on S2’s with the TCS enabled. After that we’ll give you quicker S3 tyres, but this time the TCS will be turned off.
(Anyone who drives auto may want to make friends with the L2 (stops downshifts) button, or drive manual (in 6th only), because using only 6th gear for the whole track will probably be faster then wheel spinning away in 1st-4th gears). (I used 5th gear for most of the track, only needing 6th for the main straight.)

Track: Fuji Speedway ‘90

Primary Car: TVR Cerbera Speed 12 ‘00
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: TCS Only
Tyres: S2 (Sports Medium)
Quicktune: None (Stock)

Optional Bonus Car: TVR Cerbera Speed 12 ‘00
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: S3 (Sports Soft)
Quicktune: None (Stock)
Optional bonus Car Time: For this week your bonus will be half of however much faster you manage to go on the S3’s without TCS. (You will not get a negative bonus if you can’t beat your S2 with TCS time)

My Times (so Far)
TVR Cerbera Speed 12 ’00 (S2’s TCS only): 1:27.290
TVR Cerbera Speed 12 ’00 (S3’s No Aids): 1:26.606 (therefore my bonus is currently 0.684/2 = 0.342)

These are the specs the cars should have on the track menu screen just before you start driving;
TVR Cerbera Speed 12 ’00: HP-798 KG-1020 Tyres-SM
TVR Cerbera Speed 12 ’00: HP-798 KG-1020 Tyres-SS

You have until Tuesday 6th December 2011 1:00 PM GMT to post your best time(s) in this thread (you can edit/improve them if you wish). All other rules are as per post No1.

Good Luck.

Nice one! Victory by .005 seconds. My apologies, no wait, no apologies Smallhorses. :sly:

Congratulations to Croooooow, who seems to be a Motorland specialist

I don't know why I am very aggressive when driving on this track. Way before any of these :gtplanet: Gran Turismo 4 challenges came to existence.

Always nice to see a gracious winner! :sly:
You'll be back to eating Smallhorses' dust soon! :mischievous:
I kicked myself when I saw that, I could've sworn I'd read your time as 49.090 and I quit trying when I thought I'd got you beat! :dunce:

TVR Cerbera Speed 12 ’00 (S2’s TCS only): 1:26.487

No time to run the unaided car.

I haven't driven this car for a long time, that I forgot how terrible its driving physics were.

This more than makes up for last week!

After 33 laps I managed a 1'32.579 in the Mugen... PHEW! Anything below that is incredible by my standards on R1's!

I wish I had found this sooner, I've missed out on so many awesome challenges!

I've put down some solid times in the Mugen and more especially the Spoon.

Honda Mugen Motul Civic SI '87: 1:32.513

Spoon Civic Type-R '00: 1:34.935

I'm amazed at myself for the time in the Spoon but tomorrow I'm going to try and improve my Mugen time. Normally I curse at FWD cars but this is a great challenge!

By the way where can I get one of those cards to get replays from my PS2 to my computer? I saved my ghosts but all I really have for proof is a photo of the rankings page :/

Just making my initial runs at this now.
Love the Mugen Motul, it's a great little car. 👍
One of my favourite all-clean, all-stock 200 A-spec point races was won in this car!

Honda Mugen Motul Civic SI ‘87: 1:30.695 (Wrong tyres) Time coming later... 1'31.505
Spoon Civic Type-R ‘00: Work In Progress... 1'34.844

*Edit* The Spoon Civic appears to have the gearbox of the Cadillac Cien & Peugeot 905! :yuck:
Gear changes are soooooo slooooooow!

Wow I've done about 70 laps now in the Mugen and I can't seem to improve.

You beat me by nearly 2 seconds that's nuts, nice work :D

Oops. My bad. :guilty: :dunce:
I'd assumed the R1s were the default and didn't check!
My time was on RH tyres, which are in fact R2s. Will have to re-run this later...
Thanks to all for the heads-up.

Yeah, R1's are mostly defualt in GT mode, but Arcade seems to give R2's as defualt for race and S2's for road cars.

Also approx 8:30 hours left for this round.

Okay. Took a lot of work but I finally nailed the perfect clean lap on the RSH (R1) correct tyres this time. Time edited into my post above.
Now got 3 hrs before bedtime to wrestle the Spoon within 3.5s of that. I think I'll need a huge chunk of luck for that to happen though.

 👍
As ever, all my replays are available in MAXDrive format upon request (for a while, eventually they get recycled to free up mem-card space, but I keep them for as long as possible before that) although they're NTSC-format only.
I can make shaky movies of them if necessary :(, but nothing like the quality of my Motul vs. Saleen race above which was made for me by Jump_Ace with a video-capture card, and hence looks a little more polished.

Ok here are the results for week6.

GT4 Weekly Arcade Time Trial Challenge: Week 7
gran-turismo-4.jpg

This week’s challenge is;

Toyota Supra “The Japanese Sports Car GT4 overlooks”.
Everyone knows GT4 is awash with GTR’s, RX-7’s, NSX’s GTO’s, Lancers & Impreza’s; all the premier Sports cars fom each Japanese manufacturer. Yet despite this how many Supra RZ’s are in the game? The answer, just one. So this week well be using the “Overlooked GT4 Japanese Sports Car”; the Toyota Supra RZ. It will be compared against the Woodone JGTC Supra (1 of ironically 5 (6 if you are PAL) JGTC Supra's in GT4) to see how the road variant stacks up against the quickest Supra in the game.

Track: Deep Forest Reverse
For this circuit only the red/white kerbs and the tarmac are all that I consider to be part of the track. This means the paved sections (in first tunnel), the concrete sections (around the 2nd /3rd tunnels) and the grassy looking kerbs, are not to be considered part of the track for this challenge, so two wheels on the circuit proper at all times.

Primary Car: Toyota Supra RZ ‘97
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: S2 (Sports Medium)
Quicktune: None (Stock)

Optional Bonus Car: Toyota Woodone Tom's Supra (JGTC) ‘03
Transmission: Either
Driving Aids: Off
Tyres: R2 (Race Hard)
Quicktune: None (Stock)
Optional bonus Car Time: For this week the bonus will be 1/10th of the difference between the times you submit for each car.

My Times (so Far)
Toyota Supra RZ ‘97: 1:25.081
Toyota Woodone Tom's Supra (JGTC) ‘03: 1:11.034 EDIT: 1:10.912 (so my bonus is currently 1.417)

These are the specs the cars should have on the track menu screen just before you start driving;
Toyota Supra RZ ‘97: HP-325 KG-1510 Tyres-SM (S2’s)
Toyota Woodone Tom's Supra (JGTC) ‘03: HP-495 KG-1100 Tyres-RH (R2’s)

You have until Tuesday 20th December 2011 1:00 PM GMT to post your best time(s) in this thread (you can edit/improve them if you wish). All other rules are as per post No1.

Good Luck.

Congrats, yet again lol. I'll take you up on that offer though because I always practice at the Opera before I go Karting, with the MR-S JGTC car :D. I'm always looking for ways to get faster!

Week 7 looks just as awesome!

I'll double up the request above, I wouldn't mind a peek at the Motul Mugun Race car replay as well if its not too much trouble.

I'm glad to hear everyone seems to be enjoying the combinations I've come up with so far.

No bother at all. Just got in from work, kinda late, but I did stop for Happy Hour on the way! :D
Gotta cook dinner, but will get the camera set up on it's mini-tripod and head down to the garage afterwards. I'll probably just put the 2 replays on the playlist and play them back-to-back within 1 video rather than separately.
Will edit them in here later...

Actually RyanR61, did you want the MAXDrive files too? Or just the video?
I'm making the video as I type/speak, as I know shotamagee won't be able to use NTSC MAXDrive files anyway.

*Edit*
Ok, at this point aren't I supposed to come up with a lame excuse about why I can't provide proof?
Alright then, when I went down to the garage to film my replay, I found that 1 trillion ferrets had broken in and eaten my PS2. Sound feasible? :P
Ok then, my non-existant daughter's, new-boyfriend's, great-Aunt's, sister's, late-husband's pet iguana said that you should just believe my times 'cos we're online and playing by the honour code.
Not buying it?

Oh well, here's a replay then!!! :D Video quality may improve a little, it's going through some post-processing stuff on YouTube at the moment, which may improve the colours slightly. Still no idea why my camera does that random black bar 🤬 either, I've tried all sorts of stuff and lighting conditions to eliminate it, but it doesn't seem to do much. :( Musical accompaniment from my iPod (since I hate most of the stuff on the NTSC GT4 soundtrack) is Geraldine by Glasvegas. 👍

It wasn't so much, that I was demanding proof, more that I was just wondering where you found the extra time.

Anyway cheers, smooth fast laps as always well done.

Oh no, don't worry, I was being facetious given some of the recent goings on around here (not within this thread though!) and thought I'd have a bit of a giggle with some preposterously long-winded and unfeasible excuses.

(Plus I like to use lots of long words as it confuses Crooooooow! :P)

Looks like I need to go slower through the middle hairpin; I am taking a late apex approach which seems to be slower. All else is fairly identical! thanks! 👍
