What is 'Clean' and what is 'Dirty'?

I'm sure this question has been asked and discussed quite a bit, but I've never been kicked out of a room until recently and it happened twice in one night. I didn't change anything I do. I don't intentionally sideswipe, bump or outright rear-end anyone unless out of retaliation and even then I rarely get the opportunity because I'm well behind after they knock me off the track. Other than intentionally making contact, what else is considered 'dirty'?

All subjective... and you've seen races in real life with contact - the after accident reporter thrusts the microphone under the chin of the drivers.

You listen to both replies and you would think they were in different accidents.

The after shunt adrenaline could make a host kick just out of frustration I guess.

The easy answer is "How would I like it if the positions were reversed?"

If you want to mess about - pick a random online race.

If you desire a clean race with like minded drivers - who won't ram you off the track because Mummy shouted at them for not doing their homework - then try to find a league event... or race with your GT friends.

Once you race with people you will have to interactwith alot afterwards it soon gets people out of kiddy driving crashtastic behavior.

You know in your heart what Dirty is

Anything can be misinterpreted as dirty. Depends on who you are racing against. Newer drivers try to drive cars that they can't handle and end up causing accidents out of pure ignorance, not malice. Other drivers may think you are doing this intentionally and therefore, you get kicked out. You have to drive as clean as possible. This may mean that you have to find races with cars that you can control better, or find rooms that allow the use of SRF, TCS, ASM, etc. that help you artificially control your car better.

I would suggest finding races with other people in your skill range, because some rooms are very strict and professional. When you feel you are better than your competition and they are holding you back, move up to the stricter races.

I would never retaliate for a bump or even a bang, because I don't know that persons skill level or if they had done it intentionally.

Cutting the track, passing on the inside (in dangerous situations) just to name a few. Sometimes, the host will observe your breaking and throttle use for improper/abrupt use. Sometimes you will get kicked for being a little too aggressive. BTW, you shouldn't be bumping people in a clean room EVEN if its out of retaliation.

Sometimes a host will let a few "taps" slide if its not intentional and doesn't disrupt the flow of traffic. Some hosts will kick for you for being/not being your fault. Its your responsibility to have control over your car at all times.

That's what I try to go by, but can it be 'dirty' even if you make no contact at all when you pass someone?

I think I was retaliated on because I used their slipstream, passed them on the inside of a turn and they didn't like it. Or they were bumping me from behind and didn't like it when I sideswipped them as they passed by me, which they wouldn't have been able to do so easily if they didn't bump into me in order to get me to partially lose control of my car.

I'd add aggressive contact and dive-bombing as well.

The man says "deliberate contact" ... I think that includes your concerns. :sly:

Sir, you are not clean. You can't complain of something that you does too. Payback is not justice :sly:

Driving in an aggressive manner where your intention is to collide or distract the opposition is considered "dirty" driving. Driving in a manner where you have respect for other drivers on the course and avoiding body contact wherever possible is considered "clean" driving. For me as a racer, I prefer the clean lobbies.

I prefer dirty racing with no aids. With SRF off in Dirty Shuffle, it's good drivers only but racing dirty. It's the same people when I race as well.

I see you like to drive like Jeremy Clarkson :P .

The car in front of you is not to be used as an extra brake pedal. Nor is it to be used as a mobile bumper pad.

Now watch as many dirty drivers will jump on you and say that you can use the car in front of you for anything...

I HATE dive bombers! I am one of those guys who tries to keep momentum up by braking early and lightly, rolling through the center of the corner and driving off hard. I've practiced the technique and have it down and I'm clearly faster because of it. But it's hard to do because when you brake even the slightest bit early, people try to stuff their nose down inside knowing that I'm about to turn in. I understand from the dive bombers perspective that the door WAS open, but if you follow me for more than 1 corner you'll see that the door doesn't stay open long enough for you to crawl through it.

Agree with quietstorm. As a momentum car driver in real life, I really don't like it when someone pops up in my inside and forces us BOTH to be slower around a corner.

In my rooms, track knowledge is expected. I'll make exceptions if I know ahead of time, but generally racers are expected to know where they can and cannot pass.

Personally I like being bumped and and cut off. It's a game! When someone is drafting me and I slow down for the turn and he clips me and sends me into a drift that gets my blood going! I'm not mad at him I realize I need to go faster. When were 4 deep around a turn and your sandwiched in that's racing! If you don't want to be bumped and hit and are going for lap times sorry i'm in it to win it!
With that said I do not cheat cut lines or literally smash into other racers! And I cant stand when idiots out there use your car for a break to take the turn! That's just being a beep!

For most races, BTCC contact is okay. That's what happens when two people go for the same real estate. Intentional or deliberate contact is another matter.

Depends on the type of race.
In game, it depends on who you are racing against.
In touring car races they have the motto "If you're not rubbing, you're not racing."
In F1 however it is strictly 0 contact racing.

Online however, I have found that people cutting corners and cheating is a bigger problem than people bumping into you. Most people will bump into you by accident, corner cutting is 100% intentional normally.

I can see how people would not want to be dive bombed, but if there is no contact I don't see nearly as much of a problem. However if they cut you off completley and you have to drive into a wall that's a different story. If they make you change your driving line slightly that's not the end of the world. What I don't like is the car behind you bumping you and worse forcing you off the road that way (aka Nascar).

In GT5 online racing, you have lag and connection issues and strangers, most of the time they don't work well in unorganized races. Cleanest racing possible in random rooms is to stay in last and be passive. Everyone's unpredictable unless you know them and it's a sanctioned race.

I agree, this sounds pretty much like a block pass to me, which is a pretty standard form of overtaking manoeuvre in most real life races.

I've made countless passes and won countless races online without ever contacting another driver. I do most of my passing on the straights where no contact is required or when someone makes a clear mistake in a corner, opening the door for a safe pass. I've never felt the need to contact anyone to make a pass or win a race and consider it a mistake on my part if I contact another driver.

and some hosts will kick you out for being "dirty" if you decide to take out their friend(s) who are blocking for them. Gotta love those guys who don't know how to lose with an grace or dignity, I swear they all must be hockey players. " I might lose the race but FU! I will not lose THE FIGHT!!!!!!!!"
