TT 35: Laguna Seca (SUSPENDED) & Chamonix West. [Post 1 for tunes!]

GTPL_Amo's lap of Laguna is pretty good but, any respect I had for him was lost when I watched the replay of his lap on Chamonix West. I was curious to see how he was a full 4 seconds faster than me in the same car. I was disappointed to see he cuts the track in a big way, probably gaining around 5 seconds or so by doing this. I can't understand why he didn't get a red time and the lap was allowed. I'd rather do the best lap I can in a fair way, personally I wouldn't get any satisfaction at all knowing I'm first on the leaderboards when I'd blatantly cheated. So congratulations Amo, you're the world's biggest cheat, #1

SO TRUE! I saw some times where he was 12 seconds faster than me at Tsukuba !

I mean, I'm no pro, but I know how to drive (i've gotta G25 wheel)

Two minds over this one.

Never driven Chamonix in GT5 before... very under used. But I got Gold second go (Once I didn't clip a barrier half way round in the very slow twisty section, hard pick out the inside edge of the track, clunked it and bumped over to the scene of the accident.)

Wish there was a bit of replay value in it...

However Laguna Seca was (erm still is) tough, used a Bog "LanEvo V" model, and was 1'45 or so, pushed a bit harder made a second, but I was still a couple off gold. Maybe some trick of set up gears of adding power, bu as yet I'm not exactly dialed into the car, but I much prefer it to be a test rather than fire and forget.

Comfort tyres, instant fun

If I gold it I know I will have added content to my little bag of Driving Talent.

Laguna Seca is the most chellenging time trial that I've experienced in a while. It is lots of fun because the car will slip and drift without losing control. I'm sure that's slow but it is entertaining to drive.

I got gold in both events using an EVO, same set up the only difference was the snow tires. I thought they were fun and relatively challenging.

1:40'xxx at Laguna. The choice of tires/car is great. Must continue tweaking setup!!
Haven't tried Chamonix yet... which means I'm terrible at snow

Oh, sorry for being such a noob. I've never seen a real life race at Laguna Seca so I never heard those pro details.

Not to pile on, but the corkscrew is literally the most famous road course corner in North America. Don't have to be a pro to appreciate it :dopey:

The keyword there. We don't get to see American races here. Indy and Daytona races are transmited live I think but they don't get advertised outside of ESPN. Never been a fan of either NASCAR or INDY. But please, don't flame me for that!

I think I first knew of Laguna Seca's existence thanks to video games and it sticked in my mind because it's in spanish. Of course I know it's famous track nowadays.

No worries. I'm not trying to flame you, but I know how tone of voice gets lost in these forums. :)

I'm not much of a fan of oval racing either, and I spend quite a lot of time wondering why I pay for a TV channel (Speed TV) that plays 5 hours of NASCAR for every 1 hour of all forms of road racing combined. Bastards. But I digress...

Now lets think about that.
Its not like he was the only one to have used that shortcut and everyone from second place on stayed on course.
OFCOURSE he is going to cut because if he didn't, then the next guy would! Do you honestly believe that everyone is going to be good racers and not exploit a problem that PD hasn't fixed? I used it because everyone else has. Don't blame Amo, blame PD. Or instead of just losing respect for Amo, you can lose respect for everyone in the top 300. Btw 5 whole seconds is very over-exaggerated. I'd say it improves your lap time from .700 of a second to 1 second.

Anyway

Ranked 55th for the Chamonix one as of now.
Did a 2.08.503

You guys have no idea how much effort and concentration I put trying to get that time. Especially on the DS3 XD
I was so exhausted after I ran that perfect lap that I put no effort into the Laguna Seca one.
And to see Amo do 5 seconds better than me.....
I don't know its too much :(

Top 10 on laguna, Top 20 on Chamonix,

Boom, not for long.

Thanks for the car Hoolidaz, although I had to radically change the setup to come anywhere near you.

Unfortunately every time there is a Chamonix TT there is also a massive cut.

Once we get some good tunes, I'll keep them posted in the original post.

Hell, maybe I'll make a great one!

Care to share? I'm struggling horribly due to my terrible tuning skills. I'm in 70th place and can't seem to beat my time.

I don't know what it is about your tunes PJ, but they fit my driving style well

Using the Evo X, grabbed the gold by half a second. The thing just doesn't want to grip front end at all and just seems to float through the corners. I found I had to use minimum braking and let it roll through the corners to keep as much momentuum going as possible (similar to the license test at Monza in the Alfa Romero 8C - IA, i think) In the end I got it by reducing downforce and upping the bhp to give me a little more grunt out of the corners, especially that blind 'S' bend thingy.
On the snow, used the Evo Super Rally Car for gold by 3 seconds.

Echoing previous sentimen ts, nice to have a TT where you've got to actually think about what you're doing. A nice challenge, bring on another Expert Level seasonal.

Gosh Laguna Seca is fun.

Got a 1:38.9 ATM without any off-road stunts and am pretty pleased so far.
I just wished the sand was a bit more severe, it's far too easy to put three wheels in the dirt without any consequences.

Have to say I really like this TT. Bring on an expert seasonal next!

Has anyone played with the AYC settings on these EVOs and if so how much adjustment do you make?

No problem. I'll post the setup I used later, when my son gets off the PS3 and I can see what I did. PrivateJoker, if you post your setup too, people will be able to try both.

As for the cutting at Chamonix, I was probably a little harsh on GTPL_Amo and I apologize to him for that. I just think it's a shame that people cut like that because now anybody else who wants to get a good time has to do the same. For the record, I think Amo is fast enough to have got a top 10 time without cutting, as lately, he's either been at the top of the leaderboards or very close to it. Nevermind, if everyone else who is high up the leaderboards is doing it, I guess I'll have to do the same, not really my thing though:yuck:

I tried putting the AYC to 90 but, I found the car was really unstable, even in a straight line. I switched back to using the LSD, it just works better for me, I don't really understand the AYC very well.

Double post...sorry

Eezee
I just can't find any grip! I'm using an Evo VI TM edition and am currently sitting at 1:40:2xx. I could probably find 1-1,5 seconds if I could tune the suspension for better grip.

You shouldn't need to tune suspension for gold. I used an Evo VI, gave it a few power upgrades though to get around 490pp. I started mucking around with race suspension but went back to stock for the gold.

Don't know how familiar you are with 4wd, but I find they have poor turn in so it really is slow in fast out. You can give them full beans early on the exit due the 4wd grip. You can be a bit ragged and get some drifts on a gold lap: good fun.

Why apologize? you were spot on in your first post regarding the cheats mate 👍 It's people like Amo that make the seasonals not as appealing anymore 👎 he will look for a cheat/shortcut in every combo he takes part in... If everyone copies him then it's pointless imo :grumpy:

"Oh look I beat Amo in the snow by cutting the track more than he did?"... haha that cheat wants number 1 at all costs! don't copy him or pretty soon there will be no more standards in GT5 OLR and every replay will be wallbanging and course cutting from now until GT6 :irked:

I agree Amo is the number 1 cheat in the GT5 world 👍

Currently in 3rd at Laguna with a 1:35.867. Here's what I did:

Buy a brand new Evo X from Premium dealership. DO NOT DO AN OIL CHANGE.

Performance upgrades are everything except engine stage 1,2 or 3 and no turbo upgrade. So, it has all the best exhaust parts, air filter parts, suspension drivetrain etc. Oh and all the weight reduction parts too.

Here's the setup:

393bhp - Powerlimiter 100%
Ballast 170kg @ +50

Suspension:
RH 40/-15
SR 11.7/8.9
EXT 5/6
Com 6/5
ARB 4/4
Camber 1.0/0.7
Toe -0.15/0.05

LSD 10/20/12 Front
10/26/14 Rear

Torque Distribution 40/60

Gearbox

Reset to default, then set Final gear all the way to the right, then set max speed all the way down (to the left), then set individual gears to these settings:

1st-2.732
2nd-2.097
3rd-1.674
4th-1.385
5th-1.187
6th-1.044

Then set Final gear back to 4.213, this should give a max speed at the top of 140mph (approx 220km/h)

I'm no pro at tuning but this setup works for me, although I'll probably continue to make a few tweeks.

Turn ABS off and the Evo's turn into tail happy drift monsters. Just drive in Hard and brake late the car turns on a dime.

Chamonix TT is great fun. I got gold (2:18.6xx) using the Evo RM with no extra tuning.

Thought I would try some more unlikely candidates: Xdesperado67's Pocket Monster tune Cuore at 500pp got a reasonable 2:30.1xx and a 2:31.2xx with full tune 4wd Move.

Dont´s see Laguna Seca replays Ron :ouch:

Amo does corner cutting at the start :irked:, Yanato clips a mark at the start but i can live with that and it doesn´t give him any advantage, but don´t know what to say about my contry fellow "Diogo", mate read this, you don´t need to that thing at the start :banghead::banghead:

I´m 6st at the moment but it´s clean by WRS standarts, and know i can do a lot better, but don´t count on me if you need to do those things to be at a top place

I feel sorry for Amo, that guy clearly has issues.
GTPL, what a disgrace.

It's ok guys I found a sneak image from GT6 designers and the objective is to make it Amo proof!
I think they might have just nailed it.... :sly:

I'm pretty sure that every track is gonna need these seperated by 5 inches the length of all tracks soon 👎

True for me at least. Much better driving experience without ABS or TC for the Evo.

You were not harsh at all! You were damn right to say what you did.

I watched his lap as soon as I saw the seasonals were updated, knew before watching it that it wouldn't be clean, that doesn't say much for his racing style "get 1st place at any cost" .
I can't stand it when people exploit the physics of the game and blatantly cheat their way to the top. People who race like that deserve no credit or respect imo

I've got 2 words for them.... (but I'll keep them to myself) 👍

Starting to get the hang of this, I can see loads more time in it, I just need to get used to the setup posted on here (cheers for that)👍

I have been a couple of car lengths ahead of this (136.047) but struggle to hold it together through the final sector. A 1:35.6 to 7 seems possible to me with this tune, thanks again for sharing :)
