I got a pop-up simulator that uses any white wall I can find to make everything lifesize:

After three DIY rigs that I've built out of wood and one partial DIY rig (did some customization to a Bob Earl VRC MKII and built my own monitor stand), I'm finally biting the bullet and just buying a pre-built rig and monitor stand and leaving it alone.

Today I ordered the RSeat RS Formula in black and gold:

It's the only pre-built rig that I have ever had truly drop my jaw in amazement. The price was a jaw dropper too, but I think it will be worth it as I will have this rig for a very long time.

I'm going to get graphics from the Lotus F1 car including the #9 :) and do up the rig in a Lotus F1 livery. I'm having it shipped to my home in the US as I'll be back there in March, so I won't actually be able to use it for a few months, but oh well. Also going to order a SimSeats triple monitor stand as soon as I can get some measurements. Hoping my 23" monitors will be big enough when positioned within finger's distance of my wheel rim.

Can't wait! :)

Congrats superbike81. I am jealous! I really love the looks of that rig being an open wheeler fan. I would love it to work for my setup but I also enjoy GT and rally racing and I don't think the seating position would work for that, but I could be wrong!

No place to put a shifter either (is there?), and blocking the view of some of the center monitor might be an issue with me. But I REALLY like this rig. I plan on getting a HR chassis since I think it fits my needs better but...did I say I REALLY like this rig .

Dang, you're not going to get it till March. I was hoping you would report back and maybe give me reason to rethink :sly:.

Yeah I won't be back in the US until late-February or sometime in March depending how quickly things go with my military medical retirement processing.

To answer your questions:

1) It's not a natural seating position for a GT car by any means, however it is still very doable. Check out the Inside Sim Racing review of the rig, you'll see Shaun Cole is even using it for NASCAR oval racing events and he says it's pretty good still.

2) If you wanted to mount a shifter, it could be done, but it would likely be in an awkward position. I'm eliminating both my H-shifter and my sequential because a) I am trying to simplify my entire setup and b) I rarely use them anyways.

3) How much of the monitor gets blocked is all dependent on the location of your monitors. If you use a good adjustable monitor stand and have a wheel that can do it, you can put the center monitor directly behind the wheel rim in front of the base so the screens aren't blocked much at at all. This is what I'll be doing. To illustrate, when I'm steering my GT wheel right now, if I push my knuckles out too far with my fingers on the paddles, I'll scrape my screen.

The Human Racing chassis is very nice, but I wanted the formula style setup, even though I will still continue to drive GT and NASCAR in iRacing and other games.

Honestly I have no idea. That would probably be a question to ask their customer support. I don't know much about the DBox and I don't have my hands on the RS Formula yet to give info on it's overall setup.

Nice going Super...
Great purchase should look awesome..

Funny you mention Lotus theme, just this week I found a supplier for 57mm Lotus badges. Maybe it was the A' Corsa images that inspired me.

That looks real nice... :) Look forward to seeing the pics of it 👍

Judging by the size of the of the room I set my gaming room in do you guys think it would be big enough for one of those D-box setups?

More pics, this time of the actual rig and managed to get video imbedding working correctly.

I'm using a set-up that data projects HDMI output on a wall; floor to ceiling to stop neck ache. I used to use a big TV but looking up instead of forward is not ergonomically good and causes neck stress/pain. It's nice to see the cars at lifesize too. The rig is fabricated from 3mm square tube black steel and welded at all points except the steering column so I can change steering wheels easily even when my fibre glass interior panel covers are eventually on. The whole thing framework is very solid and rigid, it's unmovable even with violent/enthusiastic use but is extremely heavy as you might imagine. The weakest point is actually the FF (force feedback) steering module, I might get a tougher one eventually or put the wheel on a pole (attached to the G27 FF module) and brace it with bearings so it turns well. However, the G27 steering wheel that I'm currently using is modified with custom fabricated stainless steel paddles I laser cut, formed & brush finished to match the 90mm dish of the OMP OD/1950NR steering wheel. It uses a chillicoke boss to attach the wheel to the force feed back unit. The pedals have been reverse mounted so they lever like normal pedals and the brake /clutch have been upgraded with Nixim springs to add progression and a dampening effect at the end of the brake throw. The clutch string is just stiffer. The electronic Logitech parts could be better, so I'm aiming to upgrade if I get arts project funding. Please feel free to check out my simulator blog here at: hutchinson simulators. We running pop-up simulator group sessions like this:

I also have a small racing facebook page where admins organise GT5 races if any of you want to join in at : https://www.facebook.com/pages/Industrial-Design-GT5-Racers/146314152084958

Peace out!

I like the platform you built for it. I'll be doing something similar for my cockpit but mine will also have the computer hardware and other things (tactile amp and stuff) installed inside of it to make for a very clean setup.

The platform was originally designed to make engress and regress (getting in and out of the driving position) similar to that of the car package I originally used as can be seen in this picture:
overlaid_package.jpg

However, It still feels a bit high to me. It's like getting into a suv/coupe crossover, a 4x4, or a car that has a skateboard platform with battery & fuel cells under the driver. I'm seriously thinking about lowering the h-point of the vehicles/simulator to make the whole thing feel nicer.

The storage idea of yours is a great thought. My platform has no bottom at the mo but with some re-enforcements here and there and I should be free to cut holes all over the place to store an amp for a Buttkicker, etc.

LOL...considering the pictures you posted of your rig back on page 4, post #63 seem to show GT5 too...

...I guess maybe you have moved on to iRacing since that was posted 2 years ago...

...and wanted to share that?

I run GT5 on my custom rig too...

Haha, yeah I only use GT5 for the GT Academy now, but mainly play iracing. I've also been using my buddies setup more than the single big screen:

Just got an E-mail from rSeat saying my RS Formula cockpit has shipped! :)

Also helping someone test a new product they are designing so I'll have the prototype in a few weeks to review. Feels good being the first person to try a product. :)

That is awesome! I wish I had enough room in my apartment in Tokyo to fit a full size rig. Just have to deal with a chair and desk here lol. I really miss my playseat back in America.

Hahha the good old tv stand.

What are the brands of those speakers by the way?

They're Kenwood speakers. 5 surround sound speakers and a Sony subwoofer. Sadly the amplifier isn't Dolby Digital just Prologic. I'm using the weights as as counterbalance so the steering wheel doesn't fall on my lap. It's clamped on a framed artwork lying around the basement so I could stretch out my legs longer.

Wow that stationary bike looks cool. Is it designed to be vintage looking or is actually from the 70s?

It is old so it could be from the 70's lol. I used it today to workout and I feel like Rocky Balboa each time I use it haha.

Oh ok. Nice system. I got to finish some of mine. I got to add new pictures soon. I am getting ready to build a new rig. I just got the G27 for Christmas :)

Here's mine, I just did a massive upgrade from my good ole TV stand lol. I didn't build it, just assembled. It's a GT Omega Wheel Stand but I'll be adding my own modifications in time.

In case anyone's wondering, I tilt my TV facing me when I'm driving so it's directly in front of me. Also, it's my living room but soon I'll be setting up a room for everything. Moving to a house in the summer.

Here's my rig for GT5 and FM4:
CNT Racing Sim with Fanatec CSR, Nixim V2 modded G27 Pedals, TH8RS shifter with SFA1 adapter, and a Clark Synthesis TST209 under the seat for tactile.

Leaving it there for now because of the convenience. Later, I'll rearrange the cave.
