Welcome to the Volkswagen Golf GTI Cup! This is a weekly race series for the Volkswagen Golf IV GTI RM '01. This series is based on fair play and that each driver takes a responsibility for his own errors. We use no driving aids and damage is set to heavy.

NEXT EVENT

Events, score and signing up are found in post #2.

Rules, car specifications and race settings are found in post #3.

Damage is set to heavy, if you think a damaged car may cause you to quit the race, please don't join. Only sign up if you intend to run the entire race, regardless of what your final position may be.

Points are awarded not only for position, but also from entering the race and for finishing the race. This is to encourage as many as possible to finish, even if they are among the last ones. The scoring system is dynamic and depends on how big the grid is. The scoring system is explained in detail in the rules in post #3.

If you have a question, feel free to ask.

§1. The car:
Volkswagen Golv IV RM (race modified)
Weight: No less than 980 kg
Power: No more than 276 bhp
Tyres: Racing hard, or less.

§2. Driving aids:
Transmission can be automatic or manual.
All other aids, including ABS, is set to off.
(If you haven't raced with ABS off before, make sure you adjust your brake balance. A recommended balance is front 4, rear 1. Take a few practice laps to see if you need to adjust it further.)

§3. Event settings:
Damage: Heavy
Slipstream strength: Weak
Fuel/tyre depletion: On, set to normal rate
Grip reduction: Real
Penalty: Off

§4. Race conduct:
4:1. Clean racing. No corner cutting, minimal contact. These are relatively slow cars with relatively high grip, so everyone should be able to stay in control of their car.

4:2. This race relies on a good sense of fair play. If you believe that you caused an incident it's your own responsibility to take a penalty for it.

4:3. How to take a penalty:
When you think you caused an accident - do not stop and wait for the other driver! Stationary cars on the track may pose a risk to other drivers. Keep driving to the end of the lap and when you get there, enter the pit lane. While in the pit lane, press start button. When the pit crew has done their job, your car will remain in the pit until you resume the race. Watch the timer, when 20 seconds has passed after your pit crew stopped working on your car, you may resume the race.

4:4. In case of damage:
Slow vehicles needs to travel on the right side of the track, allowing faster cars to make a pass on the left side.

§5. Score.
Score is given for position, for finishing and for entering a race.

5:1. Score from position is relative to the number of participants in a race and is calculated according to the following formula:

Score = ((GRIDSIZE*20)/(POSITION+3))-POSITION

The value is then rounded up.

This formula works so that the bigger the grid is, the more points the winner will get and the fewer points the last position gets. For a full grid of 16 cars, the outcome will be as follows:

1st - 79 pts
2nd - 62 pts
3rd - 51 pts
4th - 42 pts
5th - 35 pts
6th - 30 pts
7th - 25 pts
8th - 22 pts
9th - 18 pts
10th - 15 pts
11th - 12 pts
12th - 10 pts
13th - 7 pts
14th - 5 pts
15th - 3 pts
16th - 1 pts

Cars that do not finish (DNF) does not recieve this score.

5:2. An additional 5 points is awarded to every car that finishes the race. Cars that do not finish (DNF) does not recieve this score

5:3. An additional 5 points as awarded to every car that enters the race. All cars that enter the race, regardless if they finish or not, recieve this score.

For example, a race with 16 entries, where five cars are DNF will give the following result:

1st - 79+5+5 = 89 pts
2nd - 62+5+5 = 72 pts
3rd - 51+5+5 = 61 pts
4th - 42+5+5 = 52 pts
5th - 35+5+5 = 45 pts
6th - 30+5+5 = 40 pts
7th - 25+5+5 = 35 pts
8th - 22+5+5 = 32 pts
9th - 18+5+5 = 28 pts
10th - 15+5+5 = 25 pts
11th - 12+5+5 = 22 pts
DNF - 0+0+5 = 5 pts
DNF - 0+0+5 = 5 pts
DNF - 0+0+5 = 5 pts
DNF - 0+0+5 = 5 pts
DNF - 0+0+5 = 5 pts

How many races are you planning?

I'm thinking one race per week, so in total 10-15 races until the summer. I'm not expecting everyone to participate in every race, you can join when you feel like it.

Last Saturday there were five of us on the grid, I think that's about the minimum number of cars as the race is rather long and if there are too few cars the gaps will be too long by the end. If you know someone who might be interested in joining, please spread the word :)

It was a great race last weekend so I hope you get enough people this weekend. I sadly don't think I can make it this time.

Unless there's at least five drivers by 2 pm GMT (one hour before the race) I will postpone the race at Suzuka to next week.

I'm back in had some technical issues last week.

There doesn't seem to be much interest . Consider this a challenge I will win this time !!!!

So I'm guessing this will be postponed until next week? Will do an earlier sign-up to (hopefully)garner more interested drivers.

Well, if you're in Raggadish then we can go. We're four cars, I think that's good enough.

Edit: I'll log on to PSN now, so I can't use the wire for my computer anymore. If you got a question, send me a message on PSN! My ID is eran0004

Race starts at 15.00 GMT

I am well peeved! I was really enjoying that race, despite me being in last, then my internet bloody stopped :(

Sorry to hear that! It was a great race, the first ten laps were really close! Imagine that with 16 cars :)

yeah the first 10 or so were great, the first 3 were brilliant. really close, bumper to bumper racing without any contact!

I've taken the liberty of signing you all up to the next event, Saturday the 16th at 18.00 GMT. Tell me if you can't :)

can I join even though u guys already started?

Eran I will join the event GTP_The_Prodigy

Yes, you can join. Until the list is full, anyone can join :)
All tuning is allowed, up to 226 BHP.
All the rules you need to know are found in the 3rd post. Some important highlights are:

- All driving aids are off, including ABS. Don't forget to set up the brake balance.
- Damage is heavy.
- A good sense of fair play is expected from everyone who joins.
- If you caused an incident, don't stop on the track and wait for the other car - go straight to the pit and take a 20 seconds stop and go penalty (20 additional seconds after the pit crew has stopped working on your car, press start button while in the pit and you will remain in the pit until you select continue)

Select a number for your car and I'll sign you up!

Edit: After you've made a post, if you want to add something you can click on the "edit" button in the bottom right corner of the post, next to the "quote" button.

You can join as many or as few races as you like. No commitments. You sign up every week for the race you want to join. The score system is aimed for those who likes to compete continuously throughout the season.

Edit: Oh, and it seems like we have 9 cars now, which means that we will run the full distance of 200 kilometers! (We would only do 100 km if there were 8 or fewer cars). That is 98 laps, folks!
