Save the Ring

I'd help, but I can only put £5, which is all I have, being 13.

What really sucks is I want to drive this track when I'm older, or at least visit it.

same, except I have at least somewhat sufficient funds... still not enough to make a dent in their debt.

--EDIT--

the only difference (that i know of) is that i'm 22.

I play poker for a living and have done pretty well for myself, Enough so that i could comfortably retire and im only 29. I own my own House, Boat, Car and Would at the drop of a hat give it all up to save the ring. I still dont think it would be enough to put a dent in there debts :(

That is just terrible. I wish that huge video wasn't in German so I could listen to it. Very interested in this. I don't see why they would build a rollercoaster beside a race track.

Join up on all the websites and support the people trying their upmost !

As many of you gutted that it even got this far and most people saw it coming as well.
Damned laptickets getting expensive as well :(

This is just terrible Kaz definetly has the funds to save this track he should buy it or save it surely he can do it

I doubt Kaz has 400,000,000 euros, especially since the track would probably sell for twice that.

Not to mention racetracks have very low ROI.

Save the Ring!

How about Polyphony selling a premium RUF and giving the proceeds to the Ring? I don't know where the money would go or what it would do but a lot of people would buy it. Or perhaps better yet sell a RUF pack with a Save the Ring liveried race car to raise awareness. They could mention the tracks situation in the car description.

Getting the word out is the best we can do for now.

There are no lazy people, just uninspired ones, as they say.

You do realize how much this RUF would have to cost in order for PD to make any sustainable donation right?

No I don't. I never said it was a good idea. I was thinking along the lines of the tsunami relief PS3 theme. As part of a larger plan small donations can make a difference. Surely Polyphony won't raise a billion euro to clear all the debt but as I said awareness and public support are most important now. A "Save the Ring" RUF DLC pack would be an awsome way to bring attention to the issue, regardless of where the money went. Many GT5 players have wished for a premium RUF. And maybe the money could go to the Save the Ring movement rather than the circuit itself.

Bottom line, all petrol-heads want the Ring sorted out. I'm just pondering ways that Gran Turismo and the GTPlanet community can help.

I don't think anyone's going to start tearing up the track anytime soon. But terrible things have happened while people weren't "too worried". I just don't think the fate of the Nürburgring is worth risking if there is anything we can do.

Where did I or anyone else say anything about tearing up the track? In fact, chances are that track will be there for the remainder of time; it just may or may not be operational in 10-20 years.

But, I'll take the words of Porsche engineers over people on the web fearing things will still happen. These guys are the absolute closest folks to knowing what is & what isn't happening at the 'Ring. Even if they're wrong, there's nothing that we can do besides sign petitions & start donations. But petitions don't cover the costs, & the donations would have to be amazingly high.

I meant the "tearing up the track" bit to mean that I'm NOT worried and I believe the Porsche engineers, or anyone that says the track will be ok. I'm just saying it's good to show support if you hope for the best possible outcome.

Sorry if my phrasing obscured the point I was trying to make.

Apparently the state where the track is gave them a credit of 254 millions, so it seems the nurb is saved for now at least.

I just don't want the Nurburgring to be treated like the old Hockenheimring.

However people dress it up as progress or necessary for safety/spectator enjoyment (however true that may be) that still didn't justify completely destroying the old straight, desperately sad. I agree.

The Ring is officially for sale.

Autoweek: http://www.autoweek.com/article/20130318/CARNEWS/130319813

"The highest bidder buys the Ring and maximizes his profits to justify the investment. Grass root motorsport will disappear (it's not earning real money) as well as local companies. Their services will be routed through the new Ring owner's monopoly. We have seen clear tendency of that in the Richter/Lindner era over the last 2 years. Accessibility and track time will only be a question of money, all events we know today are at risk. Especially the tourist drives, which are an old dinosaur from the past. From day one to be precise and it would be such a loss. You couldn't blame a private host to turn away from that, but for the atmosphere and the region it would be a disaster. Things which aren't top priority for investors." - Mike Frison

Maybe if they pull out of the German GP next year and let Hockenheim host it. It might save a bit of money.

The Nürburgring and Hockenheim already alternate hosting the German Grand Prix on an alternate year basis, with Hockenheim hosting the race next year.

Bring back the old Hockenheimring.

DRS, V6 Turbos, Redbull speed.

lets raise money and claim the ring as property of GTPlanet than use that to take over the world.

Best idea I've ever heard.

Makes you wonder if every member kicked in 20 bucks..............

multiple times.............

Every single member would need to put in approx. €525/$678.

Also it's not just about buying the track, you then need a heck of a lot of money to actually operate the track.
