Save the Ring

Every single member would need to put in approx. €525/$678.

Also it's not just about buying the track, you then need a heck of a lot of money to actually operate the track.

Very true. However at least owning it would keep it out of the wrong hands for now

I really don't think a bunch of people that can't even cope with the fact Forza exists would be ideal suitors for race track ownership.

What the ring needs is business people, people that know how to make a profit.

Honestly I thought about that not for gtplanet but to raise money on the web to save it and all have a share on it.
You might be able to save it but then what, you'd still need to maintain it plus manage track days ,Official races, events, etc .
Maybe one or multiple german car makers can pinch in and buy it.

Do you accept GT5 credits?

Well then you hired people to run/manage it, you make an economical plan and see how it goes, usually it's like that that big firm are made. It would be possible probably but would need a lot of management and free time to see if it could be real.

They should put it on kickstarter.

Find 125000 people to back it up.

I would pay for sure...

A buyer will be found (a crazy rich arab or russian will probably buy it), just hoping it stays how it is...

The track is not a financial issue, it runs at a profit. The locals can run it no problem.

It's the truly stupid loan to develop all the side show rubbish that was the problem.

^^ A Kickstarter with a least a million people and you'd be talking.

The amount they're asking is really a drop in the bucket for big investors. Even a medium sized corporation rakes in twice that in a year, and is nothing to giants such as Buffet or Gates - pocket money.
What remains to be seen is who will pick up the tab and what they will do to the Ring.
As Justin notes, it's a matter of profit.
VAG, for instance, could easily swallow it up as their private testing ground.
Guess only time will tell . . . hope it doesn't fall into the wrong hands and the sheer mystique of the Ring gets destroyed; I would think that it is beloved by most racers and drivers all over the world.

I think it would be. I believe Red Bull was also interested some time ago.

24h is confirmed for 2014 :gtpflag:

Could this be the same weekend as LeMans :scared:

This is a coin toss I don't want to make :nervous:

Edit:- LeMans 14th & 15th June :)👍 Boy I'm going to be tired that week

One week apart! It took me two days to recover from Le Mans this year. This will either be epic or horrible. I'm looking forward to it!

I'm sat here trying to convince the wife a double race road trip is a once in a life time opportunity, she's having none of it though :grumpy:

Not sure what to think. On one hand, I'm glad its no longer a question of whether anyone even has money to keep it going, but I'm also nervous about what "A group of American Investors" will do to it as I usually never associate that with good intentions.

This is the worst news of them all. An investment firm, where ever they may be from, certainly does not carry the heart of motorsport. Their only goal is profit. They already created numerous small firms with bank accounts in Luxembourg. According to Christian Menzel's Facebook they are also set to receive financial support from the local state government.

What I find outrageous is that they decided to sell the ring for a measly 10 million euros more than the ADAC would have payed. The ADAC does care for the motorsport heritage of the Ring. These 10mil will be instantly soaked up in financial aids to the newly registered firms and support for the now doomed local economy. There is no way the local economy can survive if the main attraction in the region is ruled by an investment firm only out for profit at all cost. The bankruptcy consultants dug a pretty big hole which can easily become the grave for the Ahrweiler region.

Hear hear, the company I work for is also owned by an investment firm, and I can only confirm what you are saying.

If they change to much, prices, facilities, entrances and even track itself. Thats a bad move finacially and they would see that. They are buying a track nkt a company, so need to be bright minded.

Raising prices = Alot less people go = cut maintance

Cut facilities = people don't travel as far = Raise prices

Change the track = its no long Nurburg, the artwork and design is the watermark = the recognition is lost

Changing the outskirts = would mean more money needs investing = raise prices to recope money
