Okay, we know all of you are waiting for fresh news on MAG, and so far, we've only seen brief mentions of the game (please read the clarification update through the link). Unfortunately, we really can't find much official info for you...but we can sure as hell give you some unofficial media!

As Joystiq pointed out earlier, we may have the first set of leaked screenshots for the hotly anticipated military MMO. Remember, this is the game that will smash all the old-fashioned online barriers by allowing up to 256 players on the battlefield at once, and everyone is anxiously awaiting some real media. Those Flickr pics are hardly confirmed but they're certainly pretty, even though we have no actual evidence behind them; we don't know if they came from a real games journalism source or directly from a Sony FTP server, for instance. There's no doubt that the format and style seem to match the descriptions we've heard, but without anything solid or concrete, we're going to have to remain skeptical. If we were convinced that the screenshots were real, we would've already added them to the site, but that ain't gonna happen until someone from Sony says, "yep, they're authentic." In the meantime, we've perused through the set of 28 pics and marveled at the epic massiveness shown in several of them. We're really hoping to get a full video trailer at E3 - it would make sense, as the game was officially announced at last year's show - and if that happens, it's gonna rock the room.

MAG is one of those titles that's going to gain a bunch of hype and PR steam as 2009 rolls onwards. You can expect it to grab many a headline over the next few months, and we can't wait to see how things turn out.

Ill wait for gameplay videos before I pass judgement. As usual, it sounds cool in concept, but we've yet to see if its implemented well. I hope it isnt a battlefield clone and does something refreshing with the FPS genre rather than just making it an epic version of Battlefield. But alas, thats likely what it will be, nothing wrong with that I suppose, but its not really that much more interesting.

I'm hoping Timesplitters 4 will deliver again, but otherwise, Im leaving the FPS genre until I see something truly interesting happen with them, much like what recently happened with the RTS genre.

Hahaha love the amount of thought they put into the games name!

As I said in the other thread how many bloody shooters does this console need!, you already have Resistance and Killzone in first party development why further compete with yourself.... they need to branch out much like 360 did with getting FF, to try and aim at a wider audience.

If I was Insomiac I would be pissed because people thought wow 60 player online only to now be 1 up-ed by another first party dev with 256... many people will choose which to buy on that point alone..... however resistance has the fact that its a sequel going for it!

MAG isn't even really in the same genre. Killzone & Resistance are FPS with a fighting AI & an online multiplayer. MAG, though, is a MMO-style FPS in which 8 squads of 32 people battle free-for-all or various. From everything I've seen, this game is completely played by humans, no AI opponents.

I hope they use real or at least semi real vehicles and real weapons

Well they the makers of this game did create SOCOM so I'm sure we'll have semi real vehicles and real weapons.

Oh btw, my pants have been ruined.

The question is: will the gameplay work?
The game stands or falls in my opinion with the people playing it.
With such a big amount of players the key is to cooperate good and swift.
I played Resistance, MGS4 and the demo of BFBC and i rarely saw good cooperation between team members.
Everyone is playing for themselves to get better guns, more medals, etc.

In my opinion this will only work when players get a big point bonus when cooperating to kill the enemy.

I could be wrong as i never played COD4 or the full version of BFBC

I'm pretty excited for this game, it should be pretty awesome if they can pull it off and keep the servers up and running.

For me this has to be most exciting announcement from E3. I've always wanted a large scale combat game and with a company like Zipper making it I'm confident that the results will be amazing. Best video game name ever btw :P

All true, its better if you're in a decent clan, then you see some teamwork. But otherwise, FPS games are totally about rewarding yourself and screwing your teammates over.
Hence why it breeds a lot elitist pricks.

SOCOM seems to have pretty terrible online play, and really dull graphics.

From the looks of this trailer the graphics are pretty dull too, but i'll reserve such judgment for more info on the game, i guess.

well seeing as i see that zipper is making this game im not to worried about it and now im kool with the fact they arent making the recent socom seeing as they have been working on this massive game. i think this will be awesome. also i think this will evolve the idea of clan battles and instead create clan wars between 50 different clans. gotta say i look forward to that though now i may have to start becoming friendly with other clan leaders to get them to be on my side :sly:

"Though it’s early to talk in depth about MAG, we can definitely quell some fears we’ve already heard from you about how MAG will need to compromise on gameplay to support its size. Well, it may be massive but it is an action shooter at its core. You can run around and shoot enemies, throw grenades, and drive vehicles just like any other shooter except with MAG you’ll do it with up to 256 players. The team at Zipper was one of the pioneers of online gaming on consoles with the SOCOM franchise and they’ve used this knowledge to create a brand new server architecture to make an original game like MAG possible."

- Rade Stojsavljevic, MAG Sr. Producer

I count 12 parachutes.

Looks better then I expected for 256 players and countless vehicles, allthough I hope this is just one map I dont want to play at dusk every time. Rotating time of day would be even better.

I want infantry combat, ground vehicle combat, air combat and bombers. If they deliver this is my GOTY 2009.

Changing time of day while in the middle of a battle would be soo cool. Imagine starting at dawn and then by the time the smoke has settled its pitch-black night.

I count 13.

And judging by them having nighttime maps in SOCOM, time changing wouldn't be far off.

From,
Chris.

This game is only going to work if people cooperate...... every FPS game ive seen online people just do what they want and don't care about squads etc.. especially if one person is supposed to be in charge of each sqaud. If you were playing with friends then it may be different but with randomers I doubt the game will work out as the dev's intented... you can't penalise people for not doing what they are supposed to in an online game!

This game looks intresting, I'll follow it's progress and if I'm still unsure by the time it's released I'll probably rent it.

256 players sounds like a total mayhem to me.

I will just draw a line with COD4 - after just 2 weeks of play I discovered the beauty and subtilness of Team Tactical (3 vs 3) and I never came back to regular 6vs6 matches.

256 players are FTW waiting to happen :)

It would depend on the size of the maps. The CoD4 maps are too small to fit a large amount of players (much like KZ2). If I take Battlefield 2 as an example: it had huge, scalable maps, with vehicles featuring 64 players at once and there was none of the mayhem that occurs in some of the smaller maps of KZ2. The only reason they didn't include 128 players is because the netcode couldn't handle it. ;)

256 players on a huge map sounds awesome to me. :)

EDIT: Here's a trailer BTW: http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/mag/video_player.html?id=dX07xGDx5b0LvTPc&tag=user_vids;img

WOW! SO MAG is coming out for sure then! I bet something will be announced at E3!

You guys think they can pull of over 250 players online?

If so I bet this game will move PS3 sales up no doubt.

128 Players for each team FTW! LOL BF2 offer even half of one team, 64 players and it was bug lag fast. I bet if R2 can pull of 60 with 0 LAG, SONY can spend bit extra for LAG FREE 250+ servers.

Is MAG be a subscription base ? If so, I would not mind buying a subscription card and play it for few months.. or year! :D
