Enjoy this great documentary.

I would love for these to be embedded.

From porschepefect.com Apparently alot of die hard Porsche fans love ruf just as much as they love Porsche its self.

As for me, i love RUF, just something about them that sets them apart.
Especially the legendary yellow bird. What are your thoughts of RUF? post up some RUF pictures.

I was gonna continue this in the porsche thread, but there was really no use. as that thread is about Porsche. And since Germany see RUF as an independent automobile manufacture this deserves it's own thread.

Just give me the '87 CTR Yellowbird again, and I'll be more than happy!

I don't care wether the name Porsche or RUF is on it. I care about the Le Mans cars of RUF/Porsche that might be not in the game!!!

I don't think RUF has ever been into Le Mans, but I could be wrong.

I think I'm wrong, but RUF is the same is Porsche isn't it? :P However I don't want to miss the Porsch racecars...

RUF basically takes Porsche's and strips them down to make there own cars. They have no association with Porsche.

Ruf Automobile GmbH is a German automobile manufacturer. Rufs are built from unmarked Porsche bodies and chassis. When a chassis arrives, Ruf builds their own independent work into the car. Because Ruf installs many of their own-made parts, the company is recognized as a manufacturer by the German government. RUF is mostly known for their CTR Yellowbird. RUF is the biggest company to make Porsche tune-ups, their main rival is Gemballa from Leonberg, Germany

If your a car enthusiast...petrol head or gear head you will read the following.

The company was founded in 1923 in Pfaffenhausen, Germany as "Auto Ruf" by Alois Ruf Sr. as a service garage and was eventually expanded to include a full-service gas station. Ruf began experimenting with vehicle designs of his own in the late 1940s, and in 1955 designed and built a tour bus, which he marketed around Germany. The positive response it received led to Ruf expanding his business again by starting his own separately owned bus company.

Alois Sr.'s involvement in the auto industry had a distinct effect on his son, Alois Ruf Jr., who became a sports car enthusiast and in 1960 began servicing and restoring Porsche automobiles out of his father's garage. In 1974 when Alois Sr. died, Alois Jr. took control of the business and quickly decided to do away with the bus company, service garage and gas station, switching the company over to being solely focused on work with Porsche vehicles. A year later in 1975, the first Ruf tuned Porsches appeared for sale.

Ruf debuted their first complete model in 1977, a tuned version of Porsche's 930 with a stroked 3.3 litre motor. This was followed in 1978 by Ruf's first complete non-turbo Porsche, a naturally aspirated 911 with a stroked 3.2 litre motor producing 217 horsepower.

In the years since, the company has made a major mark on the automotive world by producing exceptionally powerful and exclusive Porsche based vehicles including the 1987 CTR, which set the record as the world's fastest production automobile at the time of its release and the later the CTR2 which was again recognized as one of the fastest road-legal vehicles available anywhere in the world.

In April 2007, Ruf released the new CTR3 to celebrate the company's new plant in Bahrain and as a 20th anniversary celebration of the original CTR

Ruf are a seperate car manufacturer to Porsche but they are also a specialist Porsche tuner as well. So you can buy a Porsche and Ruf will tune it for you, however cars like the ones we see in the GT games are not tuned Porsches. They look like Porsches and the body shells are made by Porsche (on most of the cars) but thats it. Ruf have an agreement with Porsche where they buy certain Porsche body shells from Porsche before they are givien and Porsche serial numbers and markings along with any other parts they may require for that particular model. Then Ruf assemble the parts they've bought from Porsche along with other parts they've manufactured themselves and build thier own cars usually to a higher perofmance spec than the Porsche that body would have ended up on. The cars Ruf build never rolled off the Porsche assembly line as Porsches, they never rolled off the Porsches assembly line as cars, only parts of the cars roll off the Porsche line as parts and that's the key.

People who say Ruf are a Porsche tuner are not wrong, Ruf do tune Porsches if you have a Porsches and pay them to, but they are also a legally recognised independant car manufacturer in thier own right.

We can't really miss what we have never had in the first place.:sly:

hahah. Yeah, It's all too much. We have heard about Lambo's and Bugatti's in PSP GT and now everyone is expecting Lambo's and all sorts of Bugatti's in GT5. I hope there are more Bentleys in GT5. :D You can't miss what you've never had, but you can feel disappointed about things Forza and even NFS have... ;)

Yep Ruf autocentre convert standard bought porsches into RUF and i mean converte fully But it will cost you an arm and a leg, and a head. see here. http://www.rufautocentre.com/conversions/996Turbo.asp And converting Porsche into fire breathing RUF is very popular among porscheterians.

I love Ruf (as much as I do Porsche). I just wish they had both. But if it's just Ruf, I hope they include these:

The E-Ruf concept - which is so decidedly retro Porsche meets high tech drivetrain.

And the Greenster - Also very retro Porsche with the soft window Targa.

How can forget about the stunning Studio Torino RK Coupe (with Ruf internals)

PD better go all out with Ruf.

Great, i'll contact him, and start packing extra trousers

On a more on-topic note, here's someone taking a CTR yellowbird around the ring in GT4. As you can see, it's not much les of a struggle.

Here's a fun fact that most of you won't know. The day that the Yellowbird set its top speed run, there was actually a tuned Porsche that was actually faster, although it was not able to set a higher top speed because its fan belt snapped.

DB = Deportivas Blandas = Sport Soft. At least that's what DB stands for, if I'm not wrong. He should have done it with N2 tires or even N1 tires, like real drivers do. 👍 Much more accurate.

Excellent post!! Thanks for the links to the vids, I'm a huge Ruf fan!

I also hope we see the CTR2. That will almost make up for not having the 959 in the game. Maybe now that VW is wearing the pants things will change.

The RUF RGT (basically its a Porsche GT3RS)

Its the closet thing to a top of the line Porsche that GT5 might have. I cant wait to take down some F430s and Murcielagos in this thing
